Chapter 243: Chapter 242 The Water Kirin Points the Way

The group set off again.

They were still led by the Water Kirin.

The environment beneath Longyuan Abyss was unknown to everyone, and after nearly two hours of walking, the surroundings became darker and the visibility became increasingly limited even to the naked eye.

This environment was very strange, and extremely disadvantageous to them.

Heaviness inevitably settled over the hearts of the travelers.

But there was nothing they could do about it.

As they walked, Xie Jiuniang suddenly broke the silence, "The rate at which spiritual power is draining has slowed down, has anyone else noticed?"

The steps of the group paused.

They turned to look at Xie Jiuniang, their eyes filled with both doubt and inquiry.

Xie Jiuniang’s heart skipped a beat, "Could it be not the case?"

"Little junior sister, has it really slowed down?" Raoyang checked himself, then shook his head.

The others followed suit, shaking their heads.

Xie Jiuniang touched the tip of her nose awkwardly.

Just then, Mo Chuan spoke clearly, "It has indeed slowed down a bit, a very subtle change."

Only two of them said it had slowed?

The two exchanged a glance.

Mo Chuan’s eyes were smiling, as if he was enveloped by a breeze under the bright moon.

Xie Jiuniang glanced at him coldly and turned her head away, ignoring him.

Mo Chuan smiled silently, in a good mood.

Qiao Shiyun happened to witness the small exchange between the two, and she felt a blockage in her heart.

She had liked Mo Chuan for a long time.

She first saw him at the age of fifteen at the Sect’s Battle Peak; he was focused on healing a Sect Disciple. Just one glance and she lost her heart to him. At that time, there were no few female disciples enamored with Mo Chuan.

Some had boldly confessed their feelings, all without exception getting rejected.

As a disciple of the Sect Master, Qiao Shiyun believed she was no less than those female cultivators and had thought about boldly expressing her feelings. However, one day, she found out about his whereabouts.

She hurried over, only to witness another scene...

Qiao Shiyun’s ambiguous gaze swept over Ren Bingyan’s face.

In the Sect, Ren Bingyan was always the aloof and lofty Immortal, but that day, standing in front of Mo Chuan, she lacked her usual frostiness in front of others. Like any spring-smitten young girl, she shyly revealed her feelings to the man she admired.

In the end, she was still rejected by Mo Chuan.

Qiao Shiyun might be confident that she surpassed previous admirers, but she was self-aware enough to know that she couldn’t compare to Ren Bingyan, whether in terms of talent, looks, or family background.

If even Ren Bingyan had failed, she no longer had the courage to express herself.

Since then, she kept her feelings hidden deep within. Even their everyday interactions maintained the distance appropriate among fellow Sect Disciples.

Compared to the other female cultivators of the Sect, Qiao Shiyun was considered one of the few female cultivators who actually had some rapport with Mo Chuan, and she had benefited from once helping Mo Chuan, which made him owe her a favor.

But that favor was repaid during the last adventure in the Lu Yuan Secret Realm.

Since then, their interactions were limited to her seeking his alchemy services, a standard transaction among Sect Disciples...

Jian Lingyan reminded, "Qiao Shiyun is looking at you strangely. Dog owner, what does she mean by that?"

Huh?

Xie Jiuniang was surprised.

She glanced at Qiao Shiyun subconsciously and caught her unguarded gaze. Quickly, Qiao Shiyun pretended nothing had happened and smiled lightly at Xie Jiuniang. As if everything just a moment ago was non-existent.

Xie Jiuniang was puzzled at heart.

However, she silently took note, maintaining a measure of vigilance.

No matter how hard Xie Jiuniang racked her brain, she wouldn’t have guessed that by merely ignoring Mo Chuan once, she had attracted Qiao Shiyun’s attention, making her so jealous that she concocted all sorts of scenarios in her mind.

Such people are not to be feared, it’s the overactive imagination that’s frightening.

Raoyang, as the leader, however, did not ignore what the two had said, and after careful consideration, he stated, "If what you two say is true, then the direction we’re currently heading in must be correct."

Just as he was about to have the Water Kirin continue leading the way.

The Water Kirin suddenly laid down on the ground, sticking out its tongue as if to say it was very tired and very hungry.

Raoyang hadn’t returned to the Sect for twenty years.

It was because of this time’s incident that he was summoned back by Chaoruo, so this was the first time he had interacted with the Water Kirin and was not familiar with its temperament.

Raoyang asked, "What’s wrong with it?"

Xie Jiuniang’s lips twitched slightly, "Maybe it’s hungry?"

"It’s tired, perhaps?" someone guessed.

Another person said, "I think it’s both tired and hungry."

"It’s asking us for food," Qiao Shiyun had interacted with the Water Kirin at the Sect and knew what it was like. She then took out a bottle of Spirit Pills that Demonic Beasts liked and fed it to the Water Kirin.

Soon, the little fellow was back to bouncing around and continued to lead the way.

Jian Lingyan whispered sweet nothings, "See that, Dog Master? This is a Scheming Beast; don’t let it deceive you in the future. There’s no one better for you in this world than me."

"Yes, yes, you’re the best," Xie Jiuniang replied perfunctorily.

Continuing like this was not going to work; they needed a means of transportation.

Xie Jiuniang flicked her wrist to reveal a small Puppet in the form of a horse, except this Puppet Horse had an extra pair of wings.

She inserted a Superior Spirit Stone and activated it.

The Puppet instantly grew to the size of a normal horse.

Xie Jiuniang hopped onto the Puppet’s back and sat down.

The Water Kirin on the ground darted up and followed her onto the horse’s back.

When everyone looked over, Xie Jiuniang, with an unchanged expression, said, "Since we’re going in the right direction, quickening our pace can’t be wrong, can it?"

"That makes sense."

Raoyang slapped the Spiritual Beast Bag at his waist and out came a Demon Tiger.

The Demon Tiger looked around vigilantly and then at the other people. When it saw Raoyang, its wariness diminished.

Qiao Shiyun asked in surprise, "Second Senior Brother, you have a Contracted Beast now?"

"No, it’s not contracted. It just follows me and serves as my transport," Raoyang said with a hint of helplessness as he patted the Demon Tiger’s head and sat on its back.

Then, Mo Chuan also released a Demonic Beast.

It was an adult Tiger-Lion Beast.

Xie Jiuniang took a few more glances at the Tiger-Lion Beast.

Now she was certain: Mo Chuan had many Demonic Beasts with him, which made it unlikely that he contracted them. He probably practiced Beast-taming Technique and must have obtained some rare inheritance.

This man’s luck was truly remarkable.

Last time it was the Face-changing Technique, and this time the Beast-taming Technique?

Zhan Chengxiu came up with a Wooden Mechanism Spider.

While the others were thinking about what to use for transportation, Zhan Chengxiu invited them to ride together.

Xie Jiuniang put away her Puppet Horse, picked up the Water Kirin, and hopped onto the back of the Wooden Spider, brazenly saying, "To save some Spirit Stones, please let me join you, Elder Brother Zhan. No problem, right?"

"No problem, no problem at all."

Once everyone was on board, Zhan Chengxiu drove the Wooden Spider forward.

As the Wooden Spider moved, its joints made a subtle clicking noise. The quiet surroundings, devoid of any natural life forms, made the sounds exceptionally clear.

They walked on for a while longer.

The journey had been uneventful, calm as a millpond.

Counting the time, a night had passed.

The group walked out of a strange stone forest and suddenly felt lighter, as the Spiritual Power within their bodies finally stopped leaking away.

They had finally left that eerie area!

A wave of relief washed over everyone’s hearts.

Almost everyone had the illusion of coming back to life...
