The Arrogant Immortal -
Chapter 217 - 216: Who Do You Think I Am?
Chapter 217: Chapter 216: Who Do You Think I Am?
The following matters were no longer for Xie Jiuniang to concern herself with; they were entirely handled by Chaoruo, the Sect Master.
The incident had caused quite a stir; Wu Sheng’s intent to kill Xie Jiuniang was no longer concealable, and the Wu Family could no longer make excuses.
Because Wu Sheng had lost an arm, and on the fingers of the severed limb was a Storage Ring. The Divinity Transformation had acted, wiping clean the Divine Sense from the Storage Ring and retrieving the items within. The identity Token of the Sect Elder nailed down Wu Sheng’s crime.
Upon returning to the Sect, Xie Jiuniang focused on recuperating.
The outside world speculated fervently: had Wu Sheng been gravely injured by her?
Furthermore, Xie Jiuniang’s injuries weren’t feigned; she was truly recuperating, nursing her wounds earnestly. Yet she still knew what was happening outside without setting foot outdoors, all thanks to the gossip-hound Sword Spirit Jian Lingyan.
Chaoruo had good reason to have her recuperate there.
At the very least, she had earned a great deal of sympathy!
"Do you know about the other matter?" Jian Lingyan asked excitedly.
The person resting in the room, who was nibbling on a Spirit Fruit while mulling over thoughts, was suddenly put on the spot by the Sword Spirit’s question and couldn’t help but ask, "Which matter?"
"The issue of Xie Ying and the others returning to the Sect to seek out the Law Enforcement Hall after your trip to Tiantian Mountain."
"What’s the development?" Xie Jiuniang showed some interest.
Jian Lingyan’s gears turned, "If you want to know what happens next, please offer up some Spirit Stones."
"Here, one for you."
Xie Jiuniang rewarded It with a common Spirit Stone.
Jian Lingyan was not picky and accepted, saying, "I heard some Disciples at the Main Peak discussing that the Law Enforcement Hall has found people already. They weren’t captured, but had gone to help a Sect Disciple."
"Just like that, so hasty? What about the details?"
"Well, your Spirit Stone is quite hasty too, only enough to buy this much information," Jian Lingyan stubbornly refused to give in.
It wouldn’t admit to feeling a tiny bit weak at the moment.
It couldn’t probe too far, knowing only some conditions happening at the Main Peak.
Xie Jiuniang didn’t need Jian Lingyan to say it; she could pretty much guess it all herself.
She had already known the situation from Gongsun Die.
The person behind the scenes hadn’t actually kidnapped Xie Siniang but created a false appearance of abduction, with the goal of luring Xie Jiuniang out of the Sect. This method not only achieved the desired outcome but also made it easy to clear any suspicion.
Even if Xie Jiuniang stayed in the Sect, she might still have sought the Law Enforcement Hall.
If Xie Jiuniang had caused a commotion in the Law Enforcement Hall, that would have been interesting.
Once it was discovered that the so-called missing person was perfectly fine, Xie Jiuniang would be seen as causing trouble without reason and would be accused of showing contempt for the Law Enforcement Hall, assuming Xie Jiuniang was an impulsive person.
Logically speaking, at Xie Jiuniang’s age, she shouldn’t have been so calm about her closest cousin going missing.
This was probably where the schemer behind the scenes miscalculated the most.
They had misjudged Xie Jiuniang’s reaction.
Jian Lingyan then added mysteriously, "I heard that your elder sister was fined one million Spirit Stones by the Law Enforcement Hall."
"Really?" Xie Jiuniang just knew trouble would befall her.
As she was led to Tiantian Mountain, Xie Ying rushed to report the disappearance to the Law Enforcement Hall, using a blood-stained hairpin found in the woods as evidence.
The Law Enforcement Hall arranged for an investigation.
It was uncovered that the person had left the Sect normally, with the Soul Lamp untouched.
In Tianxu Sect, there were always Disciples traveling outside each year, with Soul Lamps extinguished. Cases like Xie Siniang’s, where she left normally without disturbing the Soul Lamp, weren’t considered significant in the Law Enforcement Hall. However, Xie Ying was somewhat unreasonable.
In the end, the status of being a Direct Disciple played its role.
An Elder on duty arranged for a Golden Core True Person to track Xie Siniang’s whereabouts using her belongings.
They followed her trail closely.
Eventually, they found the person...
And so, the rationale was no longer on Xie Ying and her group’s side. Had the Law Enforcement Hall gone through all this trouble to deploy a Golden Core True Person just for this?
Xie Ying’s actions naturally had consequences.
The fine of one million was in accordance with the Sect’s rules.
It was the compensation Xie Ying had promised to the Law Enforcement team for helping to search for people. Otherwise, if everyone were like Xie Ying, seeking help from the Law Enforcement Hall for every little matter, then the Hall would become even busier.
That would lead to a shortage of manpower and ultimately hinder important affairs.
Hence, no one dared to raise any objections.
After Xie Ying returned to the Sect, she paid the one million Spirit Stones, heartachingly.
People walked out of the Law Enforcement Hall.
Xie Ying’s face twisted for a moment.
She finally remembered why Xie Jiu’niang had insisted on having her report the incident, "Could it be that Xiaojiu knew all along that Si Mei was alright?"
"Yingying, don’t overthink it. How could Xiaojiu harbor any ill will?" Xie Haoran stopped her from continuing.
However, a disciple nearby muttered, "I just heard on my way back that something happened to Xiaojiu."
"What has happened to her now?" Xie Ying asked impatiently, "Every single day, she has issues."
The others didn’t want to continue on the topic.
The incident concerning Xie Jiu’niang had alarmed several Divinity Transformation experts and caused quite a stir, so it wasn’t hard to get the details.
They were concerned when something happened to Xie Si’niang.
They were concerned when something happened to Xie Jiu’niang as well.
What they didn’t expect was that Xie Si’niang’s disappearance was purely a misunderstanding, and upon her return, they found out something had happened to Xie Jiu’niang.
The two incidents were too coincidental.
It was this coincidence that alerted them that something was amiss.
As the person involved, Xie Si’niang thought back and quickly noticed some incongruities. She approached Xie Ying expressionlessly, "Eldest sister, consider that one million as a debt I owe you."
Xie Ying responded hypocritically, "Si Mei, there’s no need for that. We are family after all..."
"It’s settled then."
Xie Si’niang didn’t want to talk to Xie Ying any further. After thanking everyone else one by one, she said she had urgent matters and swiftly left.
She went straight back to Fu Feng and found the residence of her good friend Xin Yi.
As she entered, the person inside was about to greet her with a smile.
Instead, Xie Si’niang slapped her across the face, "Are you the one plotting against me?"
"Sister Azhi, what are you talking about?" Xin Yi’s little face was a picture of confusion.
Xie Si’niang sneered, "If you don’t want others to know, you shouldn’t have done it."
"Have I done something to cause a misunderstanding?" Xin Yi asked back, not understanding.
"Stop pretending; this isn’t over yet."
After dropping that line, Xie Si’niang turned and left.
This had been her first friend after arriving at the Tianxu Sect’s Fu Feng, never expecting her to be a white-eyed wolf, scheming behind her back. She couldn’t blame anyone; she should blame her own lack of vigilance which almost cost Xiaojiu her life.
After leaving Fu Feng, Xie Si’niang sent a Sound Transmission Talisman to Xie Jiu’niang.
Then, she headed straight for the Main Peak to find someone.
When she saw Xie Jiu’niang standing unharmed, the weight that had been on her heart could finally be lifted, "Xiaojiu, I dragged you into this."
"No, it was I who dragged you into this." Xie Jiu’niang didn’t want her to feel burdened and told her everything about someone plotting against her, "From now on, it’s best for you to keep your distance from me."
"If I distance myself from you because I’m afraid of getting involved, what kind of person would I be?" Xie Si’niang poked her forehead angrily.
The two sisters stood together.
Xie Jiu’niang was quite petite, looking more like a child in need of protection.
