"Mr. Ji Yang, after consideration by the Provincial Committee and negotiation with South Dian Province, we plan to assign you to work in South Dian Province. Your specific position will be the mayor of Chunshui County in Quyang City. What are your thoughts on this arrangement?"

Ji Yang thought to himself that he didn’t know how such cadre exchanges were negotiated, but since the arrangements had been made from above, and he had replied through Zhou Chengqian, it meant that this was already a settled matter. Gao Yingzhi’s visit was merely a formality.

"I comply with the organization’s arrangement."

Gao Yingzhi smiled and said, "Actually, this cadre exchange is a method by the higher-level organizational departments. The areas in South Dian, particularly some backward and impoverished places, have cadre conditions that are not as good as in more developed provinces. The idea is to use this method to further strengthen cadre development by sending cadres like you to transfer advanced experiences there."

Ji Yang did not say much. The other party surely wanted to explain some situations to him—now was the time to listen.

Gao Yingzhi continued, "After arriving in the new place, you need to follow the lead of your superiors, work diligently, and bring some of our province’s advanced experiences there."

"I will."

"I will brief you on the situation there. Qingshui County, where you are headed, is a poor county deep in the mountains. The situation is complex there, with tough local customs and xenophobia. Furthermore, as a cadre coming in alone, you may face significant challenges."

"Can I bring some people with me?"

"You may bring a secretary with you."

Ji Yang nodded his head.

Gao Yingzhi stood up and said, "The organizational department will handle all the paperwork. We’ll give you the transfer order and such when it’s time."

Ji Yang shook hands with the man.

After sending off Gao Yingzhi, Ji Yang stood there, lighting a cigarette and smoking it.

Regarding taking up a new assignment in a new place, Ji Yang felt somewhat helpless but at the same time, a sense of longing overcame him; after all, he was going to work in a new place and he felt a surge of excitement.

However, now he could only bring one person with him, and he needed to carefully consider whom to choose. One consideration was whom he wanted to take and whether they would be willing, and another was whether the person he took could help him make a breakthrough in his work.
