Chapter 203: Chapter 203 Le Jianjun Comes Looking
The next day, Ji Yang had just driven into the township government when he saw Le Jianjun approaching.
When he glanced over, Ji Yang was also surprised. Today, Le Jianjun had completely lost his usual arrogant playboy demeanor and looked very dispirited.
"Comrade Jianjun is back?" Ji Yang reached out and shook his hand.
Le Jianjun’s hand felt weak.
Ji Yang immediately sensed that there was something bothering Le Jianjun.
"Chief Ji, shall we talk outside?"
After hesitating for a moment, Ji Yang nodded.
The two of them then walked outside.
After leaving the township government, Le Jianjun brought Ji Yang to a teahouse.
The place seemed to be associated with Le Jianjun; the teahouse’s owner was a beautiful woman who hurried over when she saw Le Jianjun.
"Arrange a room," Le Jianjun said to the woman.
Soon, a private room was ready. The woman, clearly astute, served the tea and then left.
"Chief Ji..." Le Jianjun started to say something but seemed at a loss for words and fell silent.
"Jianjun, just speak your mind."
Ji Yang’s curiosity grew.
Le Jianjun then looked at Ji Yang and said, "I know you have connections with the Chu Family. I don’t know if you could introduce me to Chu Shuyuan from the Chu Family?"
Ji Yang frowned immediately. It seemed these people had investigated him thoroughly and knew that he had risen in influence thanks to Shuyuan.
"I’m not familiar with the Chu Family. If you’re talking about Secretary Shuyuan, she’s my former leader, and I certainly know her. However, I’ve heard she’s going to be transferred out of our province soon. What do you want with her?"
Le Jianjun looked at Ji Yang again and said, "Although the Chu Family is leaving, they haven’t fallen. They still have some say at the higher levels."
"I can contact Secretary Chu for you, but whether she’ll agree to meet you, I’m not sure."
"I’d be grateful for that."
Ji Yang looked at him and had the feeling that Le Jianjun’s family was in trouble.
"Wait a moment."
After thinking it over, Ji Yang still decided to call Shuyuan. As soon as the call connected, Ji Yang spoke loudly, "Hello, Secretary Chu, this is Ji Yang."
Shuyuan on the phone was taken aback, and then she laughed. Their calls weren’t usually this formal. Ji Yang’s use of such a formal address clearly indicated to her that this call wasn’t just private; there likely was someone else with him.
With that in mind, she responded quite formally, "Ji, what is it?"
Ji Yang was speechless; this woman was making a joke at his expense!
Ji Yang turned on the speaker and said, "We have a comrade here named Le Jianjun who asked me to contact you. He would like to meet you if you’re available."
Shuyuan was, of course, aware of the situation in Huancheng Township; even the details regarding Le Jianjun had come to Ji Yang from her. So, upon hearing Ji Yang’s request, she understood.
It seemed Le Jianjun had turned to Ji Yang.
"Ji, I’m currently very busy with many duties as I’m processing my transfer and will be leaving Tiannan Province. There are a lot of things you shouldn’t get involved in, especially anything to do with the Le Family. With the province’s current crackdown on corruption, there have been some issues with department-level officials."
"Secretary Chu, I understand. I apologize for the disturbance."
"Right, just focus on your work, and don’t meddle in other matters." With those words, she hung up.
Ji Yang then looked at Le Jianjun and said, "Comrade Jianjun, you heard. There’s nothing I can do."
Seeing Le Jianjun after the phone call, his spirit seemed to have collapsed.
He was entirely unresponsive to Ji Yang’s words, just staring blankly as he sat there.
Ji Yang took a sip of his tea, reflecting on the situation and Shuyuan’s words—many department-level officials had run into trouble, suggesting that Le Jianjun’s father probably had too. No wonder he had come to Ji Yang.
Shuyuan wouldn’t meet with Le Jianjun, a sign that he probably hoped to use her connections to the Chu Family in an attempt to rescue his father.
Perhaps Le Jianjun’s father had a certain relationship with the Chu Family. However, after the incident, the Chu Family had abandoned his father.
Ji Yang surmised he was probably right, and now Le Jianjun, realizing the connection between Ji Yang and Shuyuan, had come specifically to find him.
Regrettably for Le Jianjun, it seemed unlikely he would find a solution to his problems.
The former Le Jianjun was so arrogant, aspiring to rise in the ranks in the township, and now everything had changed drastically. Far from rising, retaining his position probably seemed impossible.
Of course, at this time, Ji Yang was not going to show any particular emotion. He behaved as though he had tried to help, and as for the result, that certainly wasn’t something for Ji Yang to be concerned about.
He patted Le Jianjun’s shoulder and said, "Comrade Jianjun, are you alright?"
After calling out a couple of times, Le Jianjun finally came to his senses, looking at Ji Yang with helpless eyes.
"Thank you."
Having said that, he stood up and walked out.
