Chapter 118: Chapter 118 Class Reunion

Upon arriving in the provincial city, Chu Shuyuan still gave Ji Yang the slip, letting him go have fun on his own while she drove off in her car.

Ji Yang, aware that Chu Shuyuan had many connections, didn’t mind too much; after all, he was just along for the ride to rack up some achievements. As long as the task was accomplished, he’d naturally get his share of the credit.

Where to go for fun?

In the provincial city, Ji Yang did have a few classmates working there.

But Ji Yang wasn’t keen on looking them up.

After starting work, everyone had their own things to do. Besides, classmates aren’t as genuine as before; meetings often turned into rivalries. Ji Yang didn’t have that sort of close relationship with any of them.

With that in mind, Ji Yang decided to just wander around on his own.

"Ji Yang." As he stepped outside, he heard someone’s voice.

Ji Yang turned around to see a beautiful woman looking at him.

"You are... Sun Xiaozhen!"

"I can’t believe you still recognize me. I saw you just now and felt you looked familiar. Turns out you’re an old classmate. Come on, get in the car; I’ll take you to meet a few classmates."

Sun Xiaozhen was a college classmate, always low-key in class. Ji Yang didn’t interact much with her before, only hearing that she was a local in the provincial city and usually lived at home.

"Sure," Ji Yang didn’t hesitate. Having nothing better to do, he opened the door and got into the car.

The car was a joint venture model, neither particularly good nor bad.

As the car started, Sun Xiaozhen smiled and said, "I saw you drop someone off just now, and that person drove the car away?"

"Yes, that’s our leader. I drove him to the city."

"What’s your situation now, driving for your leader?"

"Something like that; I also have my own work."

That was something Ji Yang didn’t really want to elaborate on.

Sun Xiaozhen laughed, "Today, a few classmates arranged a dinner, and it’s almost mealtime. Come with me for dinner."

"Classmates from university?"

"Wei Min, Qian Yongping, Guo Song—just a few of us are in the city. We often get together for meals."

Ji Yang laughed, "Truly a gathering of old classmates."

He didn’t have much to do with these people, either.

In fact, Ji Yang felt that Sun Xiaozhen was somewhat overly enthusiastic today, and he didn’t know what her deal was.

What Ji Yang didn’t know was that Sun Xiaozhen recognized Chu Shuyuan; seeing Ji Yang dropping her off had triggered all sorts of guesses.

The car stopped in front of a seemingly decent restaurant.

After parking, the two walked inside together.

Upon entering the private room, Sun Xiaozhen loudly announced, "Look who I’ve brought everyone."

Three people were already seated in the room, and their gazes instantly settled on Ji Yang.

"Ji Yang!" Qian Yongping shouted out loud.

The other two also recognized Ji Yang and greeted him.

"Hey Ji Yang, I heard you became a civil servant and went to work in some rural area," Wei Min asked.

"Who told you that?" Ji Yang was curious.

"Who else but Ye Xiaoli? How are she and Qian Yongping doing now?" Guo Song chimed in.

So it was that woman!

With everyone looking his way, Ji Yang said, "I’ve seen those two a couple of times. They talked about getting married, but then some issues cropped up in the county. Qian Yongping got involved, and since the deputy county head he was involved with got into trouble, he went to work in a department. I haven’t seen him since."

Sun Xiaozhen snorted, "Qian Yongping brought it on himself. He knew about Ye Xiaoli and Cheng Hua."

Everyone’s expressions became rather strange.

"Right, I heard you had a thing for Ye Xiaoli. Qian Yongping mentioned you said you liked her. Why didn’t anything happen between you two?" Qian Yongping looked at Ji Yang.

"Don’t listen to Qian Yongping’s nonsense. Why would I like a woman like Ye Xiaoli?"

Sun Xiaozhen said, "That’s what I thought. You’re not that blind."

Well, it was clear that even in the provincial city, the relationships between classmates weren’t all that solid; there were still little cliques.

Qian Yongping whispered, "I’ve heard some rumors, Ye Xiaoli and Cheng Hua—that..."

Before he could finish, Sun Xiaozhen said, "Let’s not talk about that. But you, Ji Yang, how are you doing now?"

"I’m doing quite well."

"Oh please, Ye Xiaoli herself said you were sent to work in a rural area, suppressed. You might not know, but that was all Qian Yongping’s doing. He’s been wanting to get one over on you."

Wei Min looked at Ji Yang.

Had he not known the situation, Ji Yang might have actually been upset, but at this point, he seemed rather indifferent.

Seeing Ji Yang’s reaction, Wei Min expressed surprise, "I thought you’d be upset to hear that. Seems like you’ve already figured it out."

Sun Xiaozhen was curious, "What brought you to the provincial city this time?"

"Our leader is discussing an investment project; it’s about settling the details."

Ji Yang didn’t hide it from them, since the deal was almost fixed and everyone would soon know.

"That billion-dollar project invested by the Chu Family?" Sun Xiaozhen obviously knew about it and asked.

"You know?"

"Of course, isn’t it about investing in a type of rice wine in a place called Wushu Village?"

"Rice wine, right. It’s very popular in the city these days. I heard it’s so in demand that even at five thousand per catty, it’s hard to find a buyer."

Everyone looked at Ji Yang, and Sun Xiaozhen asked, "Do you know about this?"

"This rice wine is a specialty of Wushu Village. It was developed after I arrived there. The place I’m assigned to is right there."

"What?" The excitement heightened, and the two girls’ eyes shone brightly.

Wei Min said, "You have no idea, even with money, it’s hard to get your hands on it. Could you help us get some?"

Sun Xiaozhen looked at Ji Yang as well.
