Everyone present in the hall kept gasping and muttering.

"So, Selena knew about this?" Oberon gawked in disbelief, turning his eyes to face Selena.

Selena dropped her head in shame.

Due nodded, "We are so sorry your majesty, we just wanted to keep her place as the Luna, we meant no harm," she said quietly.

Oberon thinned his lips, "You have already caused a lot of harm!

Selena flinched, she began to shake and held Mark’s hand, burying her head in his neck, crying softly.

Oberon could say no more, he sat down on his throne, how did he miss this, how did he ever mistake Selena to be his mate?

"But how? Where did I go wrong?" He held his head, wondering what he did.

He turned to face Selena, "Selena," he called.

She sniffed and raised her head, "Your Majesty," she whispered.

He beckoned on her to come closer,she exchanged glances with Mark, shaking like a leaf.

Mark smiled softly at her, "It is fine, just go," he said softly.

She nodded and walked towards the throne. When she was a few milimeters away from his throne, she stopped and fell on her knees, sobbing quietly.

Oberon palmed his face, "How?"

She raised her head, "Your Majesty?"

"How did I mistake you for my mate? What happened?" He asked.

She sniffed, "I do not know your majesty, I had thought of this too," she shook her head.

He looked at her intently, "What?"

"According to what Due had said, it was the seer who disclosed it to us, I had thought you were my mate too," she gulped.

He arched his brow, "So who is my mate then?" He blinked his eyes.

She raised her head to look at him in the eyes, "Nyx."

His jaws slightly dropped, "N-Nyx?"

She nodded, "Yes, your Majesty," she wiped her face.

He creased his brows, rested back on his throne and tries to think through. He tried flashing back to the times he had been with Nyx trying to find that chemistry.

"She.. is my mate?"

"Yes your majesty, she has always been your mate, it was never me, that is the reason she carried your heir, and not me," she smiled sadly.

He blinked his eyes, "Oh, oh my goodness," he held his head, "It can not be. How did I miss this?"

She clenched her fists, shaking her head.

Oberon closed his eyes, "See what I have done to myself, now Nyx hates me," he whispered.

"I am sorry your majesty," she bit her lips.

Oberon was so tired, and rested his head on his throne, "Now, you get to be with your mate, even in punishment... but.. what about me?"

"I did not mean it that way your majesty, I do not mean to make you upset, I just.. I was selfish, now it has cost you this," she sobbed.

Mark came to her and held her shoulders, "Stop crying, please," he tried consoling her.

Oberon stood up from the throne, looked at them wrapped in each other arms, shook his head sadly and walked away leaving everyone there.

"Your majesty?" Demetrius called after him, but he ignored his calls and walked away feeling so bad and guilty.

The whole pack was thrown into confusion, some feeling sorry for the king and condemning Selena, while others thought it served the king right.

Oberon walked into his chambers still dazed, so Nyx had been his mate all this while and he ignored it?

He held his chest and sat on his bed, "Nyx.. you were always my mate," his eyes watered and he palmed his face, "What have I done to myself?"

He slumped on the bed feeling to weak to do anything else.

"Now, she hates me, she will not even spare me a glance, all I wanted was my mate and my love, how did I mess things up, why did I mess things up?"

He sniffed sadly and turned on his bed, "I am sorry Nyx, please come back to me," a tear slid down his cheek. At that moment, he felt vulnerable.

That same moment, Nyx was passing by his door, she thought she had heard him say her name.

"Did I hear my name?"

She stopped and heard sniffing, "Oh, what is happening?"

She paid more attention and thought she heard... crying!

She gasped, "Is he crying?"

Curious, she opened the door a little so she could peek. She saw him wrap himself on the bed, muttering some incoherent words.

"Oberon?" She called before she realised what she was doing.

He stopped whatever he was doing and raised his head up, his eyes lit up when he saw Nyx.

"Nyx?"

She froze not knowing what to do next.

"Nyx!" He got down from the bed and ran to her hugging her tight by the time he had reached her.

Her heart was pounding in her chest, she could not tell out the reason she could not pull away.

"What is happening to you?" She asked softly.

He buried his face in her neck, "I am so sorry, I had no idea," he sniffed.

She frowned, "What are you talking about?"

He raised his head and wiped his face, "I never wanted this to happen in the first place, trust me, if I had known, I would never had allowed you leave."

Her lips turned downwards, "Right, here to remind me of the past," she tried leaving the room but he held her hand, "Wait."

"Why should I wait?" She rolled her eyes.

"I.. Nyx, I know you are so angry with me right now, but please, just stay with me for tonight, please."

She blinked her eyes in surprise, "Huh? Why?"

He pulled her closer and wrapped her in his arms, "Please, just tonight, I do not want to be alone," he bent his head and wiped his tears.

Her countenance softened, she knew she was angry with him, but on the other hand, she was still very soft and kind inside and this made her feel bad.

"Why are you crying?"

"Selena was never my mate," he dropped the bomb.

She creased her brows, "What?"

He nodded, "I made a mistake, a very big mistake, I should never had done all that to you," he cupped her face.

She flinched feeling his hands on her face, "What are you talking about?"

"It is you... you are my mate."

Nyx’s jaws dropped, her eyes widened.

She drew backwards, her heart beating fast, "Me.. me?"

He smiled through his tears, "Yes, you," he sniffed.

She blinked, she took a few minutes to let the words sink in her heart before responding, "So, what should I do about it then?"
