The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 768: AND THE ROOM BECAME QUIET

Chapter 768: AND THE ROOM BECAME QUIET

Ania was told by Celia that the luna was sad, so she wanted to come and cheer her. She brought a rabbit with her. This was the same rabbit that they saw a year ago, she, Ethan, Hanna and luna Iris watched the rabbit gave birth to bunny, so Ania thought, she could cheer the luna up with this.

However, Eron didn’t let her in.

"Why?" Ania asked, she looked crestfallen because she was denied. She had been wanting to come closer to the luna, but her father told her the time was not right and she would only bother her.

Eron crouched down in front of Ania. He caressed her head, while smiling softly to the little girl. "Luna Iris is sleeping right now. She needs to rest because she is very tired."

"But, father said, alpha will go out of the pack tonight with luna. I will not be able to see her then." Ania pursed her lips. The rabbit with her was already big, she needed to carry it with both of her arms. "I want to show the rabbit. Please..."

Eron looked around to his fellow warriors, but they avoided his eyes, because they didn’t have a heart to reject her plea, leaving Eron to be the bad guy here, especially when Ania was about to cry. He scratched his head and knocked on the door softly.

Amee and Hanna were inside, Eron would let them decided in this matter. He actually passed the decision to them.

It was Amee, who opened the door and Ania immediately came to her. "Can I see the luna please? I want to show the rabbit to her to cheer her up." She tried to raise her white rabbit, showing the helpless animal to Amee. Ania had spent a lot of effort to catch one because the animal ran away because of the crows.

"But, luna Iris is sleeping now." Amee looked apologetic.

"But, you are going to go tonight." Ania wouldn’t be able to see the luna for a long time after that, because they used to go for months.

When they were not sure what to do, Cane came and actually gave the permission. "You and Hanna can leave," Cane said.

Ania became timid when he saw the alpha, because he looked very domineering and a little girl like Ania felt intimidated by his presence.

However, the alpha was actually pretty nice because he allowed her to enter the room and find the luna was sleeping on the bed.

"Don’t wake her up," Cane said, he went to the bathroom to clean himself, leaving Ania and her rabbit with Iris, while Amee and Hanna waited outside.

Ania obliged, now she was thinking how to cheer the luna up when she was not allowed to wake her up. In the end, the little girl sat on the floor with her rabbit on her lap, staring at Iris’s sleeping face.

"She is so pretty, isn’t she?" Ania talked to her rabbit in whispery voice.

Probably because Iris felt there was someone staring at her, or maybe she was woken up by her nightmare, her eyelids fluttered and the first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was the little girl with her white rabbit.

"Luna!" Ania called her joyfully. "Look! I bring a white rabbit for you!" Ania raised her rabbit to her. "Do you want to pat it."

Iris didn’t move from her position, but her eyes fixed on the white rabbit.

"Luna, do you remember, this is the bunny that we saw a year ago, we watched the rabbit gave birth and this is that tiny bunny. It’s big already, right?" Ania was excited to remind Iris about that moment. "When it was born, there is no fur, we thought it’s a rat instead, but now the fur is very thick, touch it."

Ania placed the rabbit on the bed and made Iris touched the rabbit fur.

"It’s soft, right?" Ania kept recalling the moment, she had a good memory.

Hearing her, Iris remembered about this rabbit. At that time she thought; It’s a new life.

There would always be a new life that you could cherish. The dead would remain the same, but the living needed to strive for themselves and those they cherished.

Meanwhile, Cane stood behind the bathroom door, listening to Ania’s jabbering, but there was no reply from Iris.

He let Ania to talk with her, until he finished to clean himself up and tell the little girl it’s time to say goodbye.

"Bye, luna Iris!" Ania waved her hands, while Iris was in sitting position now with the white rabbit in her lap, she caressed its soft fur. "Thank you alpha, Cane."

Cane caressed her head and told Otis to take her back to Stone. He then returned to the room and crouched down in front of Iris. "I will change your bandage, okay? After that, I will take you for a long walk, okay?"

Iris didn’t respond, but she looked calm, her focus was on the rabbit. With that, Cane took new bandage and medicine that Grace had prepared for her. The wound on her thigh was pretty deep, because Cane didn’t react in time. He blamed himself for that.

"It will be a little bit hurt."

Cane unraveled the bandage and applied the medicine as gently as possible, he stared at Iris’s expression, but she didn’t even knit her brows, even after he rebandaged the wound, Iris didn’t say anything.

"Let’s go. We will go now." Cane kissed the tip of her nose and bent his body to carry her to the carriage. They were going to Blue Moon pack.

Iris still hugged the white rabbit and rested her head against Cane’s shoulder, she closed her eyes and fell asleep again.

There were around twelve carriages in the front yard, while the knights mounted their horses, the shifters had shifted into their beasts for this long journey. It would take two days to reach Blue Moon pack.

Many warriors felt uncomfortable to go back to that pack, because that place would only bring bad memories, but they wouldn’t stay for long. They needed to defend Riverside pack from the royal warriors.

After Cane put Iris inside the carriage, he let Amee and Aliana to stay inside, as he would lead the warriors.

Iris glanced at Cane before he left, but she said nothing and continued to stare at her rabbit. She didn’t cry, she didn’t talk, she didn’t even ask for her babies again, neither she had a meltdown. She was empty and this was even more concerning.

Before Cane left, he was going to see Haco first. He couldn’t bring the sorcerer because of his health had deteriorated so much. He wouldn’t survive this long and hard journey.

"Haco," Cane called him, he entered his small room, where Celia was sitting with him, reading a story, while he stared at the window, where snow was starting to fall. "Can you leave us, Celia?"

"Yes, alpha," Celia said, she jumped from her seat and went out of the room, she took final glance at Haco before she closed the door.

Haco was sitting in his favorite spot, but he shifted his attention when he saw Cane approached him. He actually smiled at him.

"Help me to bed," Haco said weakly.

Cane was a little bit surprised to find Haco was having a lucid mind. Because he rarely had it nowadays. But, he immediately helped him to the bed. He could feel how thin he was. It felt like he could break his bone with a little bit pressure.

Cane then rearranged the pillow behind his back and covered his body with blanket. After that, he added more firewood to the fireplace to make the room warm.

"Your poison worked, Haco," Cane said. He pulled a chair to sit beside the bed.

Haco smiled. He looked lethargic, but his eyes were clear. "I told you, I am the best sorcerer..."

"Yes, you do." Cane nodded, agreed readily.

"I want to see you sit on the throne. Achieved your goal," Haco said weakly, as he stretched out his hand and Cane grabbed it. "This room is very warm and I am full. Thank you for taking care of me."

When they met again in the capital city, Cane had promised him that he would take care of him if he followed his instruction and order.

Before that time, Haco thought he would end up somewhere alone, without no one by his side, maybe on the street or inside an inn, without family or anyone to take care of him, but this small warm room was not bad and having Celia by his side, knowing many people cared for him, those little children that he saw as his own grandchildren, since he had none was a great ending.

His life was not bad.

"Long time no see, my old friend," Haco smiled brilliantly when he saw Cane’s red eyes. The alpha let out the lycan, it was the first time he let him resurfaced after suppressing him with no way for the creature to make an appearance.

"You look awful," Lu said, he scrunched his nose, but Haco chuckled.

"It’s a great journey that we had... you and me..." Haco said softly.

Lu nodded. He stopped making face. "It’s a great journey, my old friend."

"Let’s go to another journey..." Haco closed his eyes. He breathed evenly. "This time, don’t make me miserable again."

This cursed creature had put him into a lot of trouble.

"Let’s go."

And the room became quiet.
