The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 638: CAPITAL CITY

Chapter 638: CAPITAL CITY

"Are you crazy? Do you want to surrender yourself? What kind of plot do you have in your broken mind?" Lou couldn’t understand him, he thought they were on the same page.

But then he was woken up in the middle of the night to take him to the Capital City. That was outrageous!

Maybe Lou’s accusation was right, Cane’s mind was broken now, because he didn’t have any plot in his mind for the reason to go to the Capital city.

"Can you do that?" Cane asked calmly, despite the merchant was seething at him.

"No, I am not going to do that! Even if I can, I will not do that!" Lou scoffed. "If you are going to surrender, do it yourself, don’t get me involved with your crazy plan!"

"I never said I am going to surrender."

"So, what are you going to do in the capital city?"

"There is something I want to get."

Lou scrunched his nose, he pursed his lips, but his curiosity got the best of it. "What is it?’

Aliana made sure the room was warm enough for Iris, but for her, she felt like she was being boiled alive. This was too hot!

Therefore, once she saw Iris had fallen asleep comfortably, she walked out of the bedroom and let the cold wind caressed her damped skin.

"Do you need something?" Eron asked, he approached Aliana. He, Dyne and Zephyr would take turn with the other four to guard the bedroom, while Aliana supposed to not leave Iris alone inside.

Therefore, when she walked out, they were immediately on alert.

"No, I only need to get some fresh air," Aliana said immediately to calm them down. "It’s very hot inside."

All of them could see how Aliana was sweating profusely. Her skin had turned red because the temperature was too high for her liking.

"Is the luna fine? She really can sleep in such hot temperature?" Dyne asked with curiosity, he once stepped inside the room and he needed to admit it felt like a room in the middle of summer.

"No, she is fine. Lower than this, she will wake up, feeling cold."

"I can’t imagine how the alpha is able to sleep in such hot temperature," Aliana mumbled. The alpha didn’t even complain and slept next to his mate, as if the hot temperature was nothing. More so, the room would always be bright, because Iris was afraid of dark.

It was still a mystery how Cane could do all of that when he had every right to get comfortable in his own bedroom, or he could sleep in different room.

"What are you doing here?" Zephyr asked with a frown and all of them followed his line of sight only to find Zale was standing not too far from them, his body drenched with black water like ink, which made him look miserable.

"I want to stand guard to protect the luna too," Zale said without any hesitation, while Lil Thing’s ears perked up when it heard his voice. He opened its eyes and stretched its body before it fell sleep again after seeing Zale’s figure.

"You don’t need to do that, we are enough. Go back to your bedroom." Zephyr waved his hand to dismiss Zale, but the young boy was adamant. He was not going back.

"The alpha is not here, I am going to stay with you all and help to stand on guard." He then sat down on the floor, crossed his legs and looked around him, as if he was looking for any potential danger that could happen.

"I can’t understand his obsession to be with the luna." Eron scrunched his nose. He didn’t know Zale very well, but he could see how stubborn this young boy could be, Zephyr also had mentioned him a few times.

"She saved my life and gave my sister a proper burial. I will repay that for the rest of my life," Zale said firmly. "I will not forget the hand that helped me in time of need."

The four of them grimaced, what Zale said like a harsh slap on their face and they felt embarrassed on behalf of themselves and the rest of the Howling Wolf pack.

Zephyr cleared his throat. "Do as you wish."

They didn’t bother Zale anymore after that and let that young boy to stay. He was full of dedication and meant it when he said he wanted to pledge his loyalty to Iris, though the luna had not yet accepted him.

"How’s your lesson today with Kaz?" Jace asked Celia when he found her was still inside the small office that should belong to the head of the steward.

On the six months mark, this small office would belong to her, because she would take over Kaz’s job to take care the pack house. In another word, she raised in rank.

"Great," Celia replied, but Jace felt it was not as great as she said it.

"Did he cause you trouble?" The beta knew how reluctant Kaz was to let go of the job that had become his identity. He had caused trouble for Celia a few times, especially after he figured out Sofia’s baby was not Cane’s. He vented out his frustration on this young girl and Jace had put his foot down a few times.

"No." Celia shook her head. "He was only being grumpy like usual," she replied lightly, but then she lifted her head and then stared at Jace for a few moment, as if she wanted to say something, but conflicted whether she needed to say it or not.

"What is it? Tell me." Jace wanted to look for Kaz, there was a few things he wanted to ask about the distribution of food for the orphanage, but it was not an urgent matter. It could wait.

"Why Sir Kaz hates the luna so much? She is not a bad person." The way Kaz used to curse at the luna under his breath made Celia felt uncomfortable. He blamed everything on her, even something that completely unrelated to her.

Kaz had been going through a lot of emotions, at first, he felt guilty and remorseful, but then he justified his action and a moment later, he would be so mad to the luna, yet a few days later the circle would continue again.

"Some time, people couldn’t let go of their past. Don’t mind him." Jace became curious. He knew most people in the Howling Wolf pack, especially those, who were not close with Iris still couldn’t let go of their past and seeing her was very difficult, because she was a living reminder of what they had gone through.

They had not yet reached the point where they accepted her, but instead of being hostile toward their luna now, they were tolerating her existence, which could be said an improvement and Jace hoped they would come to term to fully accept her. She was perfect for Cane, especially when the alpha gradually returned to himself whenever he was with her.

"What do you think about the luna?" Jace asked Celia. He hoped she wouldn’t harbor the same hatred like the most of the rest of the pack member.

Celia thought about it for a while. "The luna is very kind. I remembered I received a piece of meat and a glass of water after being starved for a few days." She grimaced when she remembered that. She was only a little child, but her childhood memories filled with a lot of things that she better off to forget, yet she couldn’t. "The meat and the water were from Hanna, if it was from her, it meant, it was from the luna too, right? I will never forget that. Why they can’t focus on her act of kindness?"

Jace smiled at her. "I don’t know, Celia."

"I hope the luna finally can be happy with the alpha and has a lot of babies, since people in our pack seems to be very concern about it, maybe with that they can finally accept her."

Jace didn’t think that was a good way to accept someone and Iris would be very dissapointed if she was accepted just because she met their expectation, but there was one thing that Jace agreed with Celia.

"I hope the two of them can find their happiness no matter what." Jace prayed everything would end up well and they finally could have a peaceful life.

===========================

It didn’t cross Cane’s mind in the beginning, because he didn’t have any plan to go to the Capital City, not to mention with what was going on right now, the chance for him to have any desire to step into the Capital City was close to none.

However, like usual, he wouldn’t do something without meaning, neither he would allow himself to be in disadvantage position if he could help it.

Cane did not only come here to get the Golden Seed fruit, but he wanted to see this place up close. What was happening in the Capital City after Alan took over the throne. He got a glimpse of what was happening from the letter from the child in the orphanage that was sent to Iris, but it had been a while and there was no more letter from Joyce, since the last one.

"What was that?" Lou frowned, he stared at his own hand, but he couldn’t comprehend the surge of power he felt when he opened the portal. It supposed not that easy to stabilize the portal, but as it turned out, he could do it effortlessly.

Lou stared at Cane, who ignored him and walked ahead in this empty alley. He contemplated for a while, but then he shook his head. There was no way Cane would know about the surge of power he felt earlier, since he was not even a magic user, more so, Lou’s pride held his tongue back to mention about it.

It would be embarrassing to admit he got some kind of mysterious help when he opened the portal. He would never admit that, even though the curiosity gnawed on the back of his mind.

"Where are we going now?"

"To the orphanage."

Cane actually replied to his question and quicken his pace, which made the merchant had to run after him.

"I supposed to sleep right now, you know!" Lou hissed disdainfully. He promised himself this would be the last time Cane could use him as he liked. There would be no more after this, if anything, it would be him, who took advantage of this alpha! "Wait, what are you going to do in the orphanage?"

Cane didn’t answer him, he looked around this part of the Capital City and realized how much change had happened here. This place was not like this a few months ago when he was here.

"Hey!" Upset was an understatement for what Lou felt right now, especially when Cane walked away alone, ignoring him. Did he think, he wouldn’t leave him alone here? The alpha wouldn’t be able to return without him, but then he didn’t look concern about that fact at all.

"Shut up."

Cane stopped walking, as they reached the end of the alley and reached the main street. The first thing that hit Cane was the thick smell of blood in the air and what he witnessed next was nerves wrecking.

This place, was no different from Silver River pack. If Cane didn’t see the haughty palace in the distance, he would think Lou had created a portal to that pack.

"What the hell is happening here?" Lou stopped nagging at Cane when he saw what he was seeing. He was dumbstruck.

"It seems, they are right to sue you. Your magical device doesn’t work." Cane glanced at Lou beside.

"Bullshit! That’s impossible!" Lou retorted.

"The fact is before your eyes." Cane waved his hand to the horrendous sight in front of them.
