The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 532: SOMEONE CALLED HER

Chapter 532: SOMEONE CALLED HER

Kaz was surprised to get a visit from Iris and he immediately thought his time was near. He didn’t believe the Alpha would actually give him a final verdict and was still holding onto hope that once the Alpha’s anger had subsided, he would let him go.

However, if it was Iris who came here, it would be a different thing. The Alpha wouldn’t kill him, but then, apparently, he was very infatuated with his mate, until he abandoned his own child. Kaz was sure, the second he saw Iris, he was going to die just like Jemma.

Therefore, he was surprised when he heard what Iris said.

"Wh- what? What do you mean, Luna?" Kaz stuttered. She would be gone by the time he left the dungeon? Would she release him or did she have another thing on her mind? "You are going to release me?"

Iris stared at Kaz for a while. She didn’t feel anything about this old man. She didn’t even hate him nor did she feel bitter about him.

She simply felt aloof, as if he was someone that she didn’t know and was not related to her in any way or form, someone that she only knew by name.

Yesterday, Jace came to her to ask for help. He couldn’t handle all the affairs by himself, especially the trivial things in the pack house. It was not a really significant task and seemingly not important, but it would mess up the way the pack worked if no one handled it.

Jace couldn’t do that, because such a simple task would eat up a lot of his time and to ask someone to do it, he needed to teach them, while he didn’t have time for any of that, since he also needed to overlook the construction and the warriors.

Because Cane decided to let the Riverside pack’s warriors stay in their pack to strengthen their protection, they needed to think about how to house them in the long term, not to mention, it meant they needed to purchase more grains.

The Beta was too overwhelmed to handle everything and he would be handful if he needed to teach someone new, therefore, in the end of his long explanation, he pleaded with Iris to ask the Alpha, whether he would forgive Kaz and let him work again.

On the other hand, Iris almost forgot about that old man. The incident in the kitchen felt like it happened in another lifetime, because after that, several crucial things happened and more big things had transpired.

Of course, Cane was not really thrilled with the idea, but after some persuasion and a lot of kisses, he finally relented and let Iris decide what she was going to do with Kaz, since she was the one who had been offended by him.

It must be her who should decide what she was going to do with Kaz.

"You will leave the dungeon and continue with your job," Iris said lightly and she watched as Kaz’s expression morphed into confusion. "After the attack, there are a lot of things to be taken care of and you should help Jace as much as possible and that will be your punishment."

"Wh- what do you mean, Luna?" Doing his own usual job was not a punishment. It couldn’t be called a punishment, right? "You want to release me?"

"You are free to go, Kaz." Iris took a step close and fished out a key from her pocket, as she unlocked the cell and opened the door for him.

Kaz was in disbelief to see himself being released. "Please, thank the Alpha for releasing me. I will do my job perfectly. I will not disappoint him."

Kaz’s initial shock disappeared and now he looked so elated.

On the other hand, Iris stared at him, waiting for something, but when Kaz didn’t say anything anymore aside how grateful he was for the Alpha’s mercy, she sighed deeply and walked away. That was it.

Before she came here, she felt like she wanted to say a lot of things. She even had this imaginary conversation about what she wanted to say. She wanted Kaz to know how she felt and that what he had done to her was awful.

But right now, the urge to voice her feelings had vanished, she didn’t feel like talking about them anymore. It wasn’t worth it.

Haco was right, he said that sometimes people would choose to pretend you were a bad person so they didn’t have to feel guilty about the things they did to you and now, Iris could see how true it was.

Iris felt crazy for actually thinking she could get a proper apology. She shouldn’t have hoped for that in the first place.

If it was not for the critical situation and Kaz’s mistake was not being anything critical, in a way, since he didn’t kill anyone or harm them intentionally, his help was needed at this time. More so, holding a grudge against him didn’t help her with anything.

"Are you okay, Luna?" Eron asked when he saw Iris. She looked so quiet.

A second later, the door was opened and they saw Kaz stepping out. He looked excited, as he greeted Eron and then dashed away from this dark place, saying he wanted to see the Alpha and thank him.

"You can release the other people who have been arrested along with Kaz." Iris gave him the instruction, as she walked away.

"Luna Iris..."

"I know my way out. You can go and release them first."

Seeing her, Eron decided not to follow, since she knew her way out and he thought she needed some time of her own, thus he let her walk out alone, while he released the other people. It seemed their punishment had ended and they would work again like usual.

Meanwhile, Iris walked in this empty corridor. There were many prisoners here. She was deep in thought.

A good thing was; she didn’t need to stay in this pack and she would be away for months before she returned here again, so she didn’t need to deal with them. She could focus on something else.

Iris knew her way back, but her mind was messing up with her and her emotions were all over the place, thus her feet took a wrong turn, which made her end up at the inner cells.

A strong putrid smell snapped her back and she looked around her, not recognizing this place, until she heard someone call her name.

"I- Iris... is that you?"

His voice was so hoarse and filled with so much agony, which sent chills down Iris’ spine. She froze in her place. Who could this person be? How could a prisoner know her even before he saw her? He must have smelled her scent...

"I know it’s you... you are here! Come here you little slut!"

================================

Kaz couldn’t contain his happiness, as he immediately cleaned himself up and asked around about the Alpha’s whereabouts. He bragged to the people how the Alpha had finally forgiven him, but because not many people knew what actually was going on, they congratulated Kaz.

It was great to have him here again, because he knew what to do with the pack house and they were a little bit frustrated with some of their purchases.

"The Alpha must be in the training ground, you can find him there," one of the omegas told Kaz cheerfully and the old steward immediately rushed toward the training ground, where he found the Alpha. He was talking to Will.

The warrior finally came out of his shell and started his training again, he also helped with the construction, though he didn’t talk much and Hanna would always be nearby, or else, he would abandon everything he was doing and go looking for her instead.

"Alpha!" Kaz approached Cane, as he immediately knelt in front of him. He almost hit his head on the ground. "Thank you, Alpha, thank you for your mercy. I know you are merciful and I will not doubt that! Thank you for letting me go."

Hanna was there, she was distributing water for the warriors after their training and noticed that the nasty old steward had been released. She frowned, displeased.

"I know you will forgive me one day..."

"I didn’t."

Kaz was shocked when he heard that, thus he lifted his head and looked at the Alpha. He stared at Cane, a person he had known ever since he was little. He was not sure he had heard him right.

"P- Pardon me...?" Kaz stuttered.

"I still have not yet forgiven you, Kaz and you will still be in the dungeon if it’s not for my mate asking me to release you." Cane paid him no mind, as he continued his discussion with Will.

"But... I thought... it was..." Kaz stammered even more, he didn’t believe what he heard.

"You can leave. I am in the middle of a discussion now." Cane shifted his attention and stared at Kaz darkly, which made the old steward tremble in fear.

Kaz nodded vigorously and then resigned himself, but before that, Hanna approached him. Her eyes were ablaze with annoyance.

"How does it feel to be saved by my missy, the very person who you disrespect so much?" Hanna asked sharply, she didn’t have any qualms to rub it in Kaz’s face. "How many times shall my missy have to save you for you to be grateful? When you were a slave and now you are a free person, you are still a burden for my missy to save you time and time again." Hanna was gritting her teeth. She couldn’t understand why they released him. "Do you still want to look down on her?"
