Chapter 425: Chapter 425: A Lifetime with Only One Love

"Mom, nobody’s home, where did you all go?"

Shen Siyuan quickly dialed his mom, Huang Huijuan’s, phone number.

"Your dad and I are at your grandma’s place. You came back so early?"

"Yeah, and why are you up so early to go to Grandma’s?"

"Helping her tidy up the house. Your grandma can’t bear to throw anything away. When I try to throw stuff, she argues with me. It’s perfect timing that you’re back. Come straight here; she’ll listen to you."

"Alright, I’ll be there right away."

Shen Siyuan hung up the phone, closed the courtyard door, and headed towards Yu Family Mansion where his grandma lived.

Since it wasn’t very far and Shen Siyuan walked quickly, he arrived in just over ten minutes.

From a distance, he could see Grandma standing at the village entrance looking around.

"Grandma, what are you doing standing here?" Shen Siyuan hurried his steps to greet her.

Grandma immediately grabbed Shen Siyuan’s hand and carefully examined him up and down.

"Your parents are tidying up the house. I didn’t want to stay inside," Grandma said.

"Did you argue with my mom again?" Shen Siyuan asked with a smile.

"How could we not argue? Goodness, she wants to throw this away and that away. Just how wealthy are we? That’s not how you live your life," Grandma said discontentedly.

"Things we don’t use just take up space at home," Shen Siyuan said.

In fact, he kind of agreed with his mom’s approach. Things you don’t use should be discarded, you need to learn how to declutter and let go.

Grandma heard this and gave him a disapproving glare.

"You’re siding with your mom, aren’t you? People don’t have eyes in the back of their heads; how do you know you won’t need it in the future? Are we supposed to spend money to buy it again when we do need it?" Grandma said.

"That’s right, you’re absolutely right about that," Shen Siyuan quickly said.

Upon hearing this, Grandma immediately broke into a smile.

Shen Siyuan noticed that her missing teeth had all grown back.

"Grandma, how have you been feeling lately? Are you in good spirits?"

Grandma looked around, then whispered in Shen Siyuan’s ear, "Ever since you gave me that stuff to eat, I’ve been feeling better and better every day, so energetic, and my teeth are great, everything tastes good. I even plan to plant something in that abandoned field..."

"Grandma, no. I want you to be healthy, not for you to work hard again, just rest at home and enjoy yourself," Shen Siyuan said with a wry smile.

"Being healthy is enjoying life," Grandma said, pulling Shen Siyuan toward the house.

After a few steps, she noticed Shen Siyuan was barefoot and stared at him in disbelief, "Why are you barefoot? What happened to your shoes? You can’t even afford shoes now?"

"Grandma, what are you talking about? This is a form of practice," Shen Siyuan said.

Grandma understood but didn’t ask more. There are all sorts of practices, and she had seen a lot when she was younger. Shen Siyuan going barefoot was no big deal—her grandson was quite capable.

"Will you always go barefoot from now on?"

"Of course not, I’ll put on shoes when I get back."

"Then wear my slippers for now."

As they chatted, they soon arrived at Grandma’s doorstep.

They saw Shen Jianjun wearing a blue long shirt, something like Tang Tang’s protective clothing, covered in dust, moving some miscellaneous items outside.

As for Huang Huijuan, she was holding a towel, wiping here and there, giving directions nonstop; she was indeed working hard and contributing a lot.

Even so, Shen Jianjun kept saying, ’Take it easy, take a rest for a bit.’

"Look at him, so useless," Grandma said with dissatisfaction.

Shen Siyuan just smiled without commenting. What could he say? It’s their thing, one willing to fight and the other willing to suffer; Grandma could talk, but he couldn’t.

Though Grandma often bickered with Mom, they never truly argued.

Mom said Grandma had a sharp tongue but a soft heart, and bickering with her was fun.

Grandma said she was broad-minded and didn’t fuss over things, as long as the family was harmonious.

Seeing Shen Siyuan return, Huang Huijuan immediately shouted into the house, "Jianjun, our son is back. You take a break and let him do it."

Shen Siyuan: ...

You really are my wonderful mom.

Hearing this, Shen Jianjun came out from inside, and as soon as he saw Shen Siyuan, he broke into a grin.

"Why are you back so early?"

"Just spending a few days at home. People are visiting. What’s there to clean up?" Shen Siyuan said slightly displeased.

Grandma heard this and lightly slapped his arm.

"How can you not clean up? It needs to be neat, or people will look down on us," Grandma said.

Shen Siyuan rubbed the spot where Grandma slapped him and said discontentedly, "What are you afraid of? Do we need their approval?"

"Don’t say that, he’s your grandpa," Grandma said.

"Humph, I don’t acknowledge it. And Grandma, don’t go soft on them," Shen Siyuan said.

"Why would I go soft? It’s been so many years; what’s there to go soft about? You’re minding your grandma’s business now?"

Although Grandma said that, it actually showed that she hadn’t forgotten Grandpa.

It’s inevitable; the older generation believed in lifelong love, dedicated once and forever, and Grandma really did live up to that.

In the past, she resented and hated, but as she said, so many years have passed, she has long since let go.

But Shen Siyuan still felt indignant for Grandma.

"Grandma, can’t you be a bit more ambitious?" Shen Siyuan said, exasperated.

His gaze then fell on Shen Jianjun, who stood at the door smiling, and he realized that mother and daughter had the same personality, in modern terms, they were both love-struck.

"You little rascal, talking about me behind my back," Grandma said, giving Shen Siyuan two light pats on the back.

She then asked, "How are things with you and Miss Ruan? Why didn’t she come back with you?"

"She’s coming tomorrow. Oh, by the way, Mom, Mr. Ruan is also coming tomorrow," Shen Siyuan said.

"What?"

Huang Huijuan, who was cozy with her husband, turned her head back in surprise.

"Why didn’t you say earlier?"

"Am I not telling you in advance now?"

"You call this in advance? We have no preparation," Huang Huijuan said discontentedly.

"What preparation is needed?"

"A lot of things!"

As she spoke, Huang Huijuan was unbuttoning Shen Jianjun’s protective clothing.

"Leave Grandma’s stuff to you, we’ll go back and prepare now," Huang Huijuan said hurriedly.

Before Shen Siyuan could say anything, Grandma chimed in, "Go on, go on, you’re just causing trouble here."

"Grandma, with them gone, all the work is up to me."

"Don’t worry, Grandma will help you," Grandma said happily, pulling Shen Siyuan’s arm.

Shen Siyuan sighed deeply. There’s no way he’d let Grandma do this work; all that’s left to do will fall on him.

Shen Siyuan realized that Mom just didn’t want her husband to get tired.

Everything else was just an excuse.
