Chapter 401: Chapter 401 Dou Dou and Great Grandmother

"Is it windy?" Grandma Taozi looked towards the window, puzzled.

Uncle’s wife stood up, "Shall I close the window for you?"

"No need. You won’t even turn on the air conditioning for me, and now you want to close my window too? Are you trying to bake me to death?" Grandma Taozi complained.

"Don’t you know your own body? I’m just worried you’ll get a chill. Every time you catch a cold, don’t you end up in the hospital for ten days or half a month?" Uncle’s wife replied.

"But I’m feeling exceptionally well today."

"That’s just because Boxuan is getting married today. You’re in a good mood, that’s all. It’s an illusion," said Uncle’s wife.

"No, I really do feel much more energetic, especially after seeing Xiao Shen," Grandma Taozi insisted.

"That’s because Taozi has found a boyfriend and you’re happy about it. It’s all an illusion," Uncle’s wife retorted immediately.

Grandma Taozi: ...

So it’s all because I’m in a good mood, huh?

"I’m in a bad mood now. Go back to your room and let me rest," Grandma Taozi said, displeased.

"Do you want me to sleep with you tonight?" Uncle’s wife asked.

"No thanks. You snore louder than I do. And I’m not so old that I can’t move around," Grandma Taozi grumbled.

"Alright then. I’ll help you get into bed to rest," Uncle’s wife said.

"What’s the rush? I still want to sit for a while."

Seeing that Grandma Taozi was unwilling, Uncle’s wife didn’t insist and simply made the bed for her before heading to the next room. Today was a special occasion, and Uncle had also had quite a bit to drink. She needed to take care of him.

Once Uncle’s wife had left, Grandma Taozi looked down at her palms and gently caressed them. She felt it was not an illusion – she truly felt much more spirited.

For an elderly person her age, most physical functions have declined, and they would easily feel any slight change.

Dou Dou randomly picked a room and it turned out to be Great Grandmother’s.

Dou Dou circled around Great Grandmother again and again. She really loved Great Grandmother because Great Grandmother loved her most of all.

"Sigh~"

Dou Dou watched Great Grandmother sitting in the chair, staring out the window and daydreaming. Resting her chin in her hands, she crouched opposite Great Grandmother and blankly stared back.

If only she could talk to Great Grandmother and tell her how much Dou Dou missed her.

Dou Dou also wanted to give her a kiss, just like she did with her dad and mom.

At that moment, she suddenly remembered something.

Mom only said that she couldn’t become visible in front of the bride, but she didn’t say it wasn’t allowed in front of Great Grandmother.

With that thought, she rubbed her hands together in excitement, a proud smile on her face.

Grandma Taozi was still looking out of the window, wondering why the wind had stopped so suddenly, when she caught a glimpse of a small figure crouched at her feet from the corner of her eye.

She hesitated, thinking the figure looked a bit like Dou Dou. Was it because she missed her so much that she was seeing things?

Nevertheless, she strained her eyes, trying to get a clearer look.

But it was still somewhat unclear.

Dou Dou knew Great Grandmother’s vision wasn’t good, so she actively stood up and moved closer, giggling, "Great Grandmother, I’ve missed you so much."

"Dou Dou?" Great Grandmother was astonished.

Then, as if realizing something, she stretched out her hand to pull Dou Dou closer and examined her carefully.

Seeing the cute little figure in front of her, Great Grandmother’s eyes moistened.

"It really is my little baby."

"Great Grandmother, why are you crying? Aren’t you happy to see me?" Dou Dou extended a small hand and wiped her tears.

"Of course, I’m happy. I never expected that when Great Grandmother is about to go, it would be our Dou Dou who comes to see me off. I am content."

Great Grandmother thought Dou Dou came to escort her on her final journey, today she felt exceptionally well, which could also be explained by the phenomenon of rallying before the end.

At her age, she no longer feared death, so she wasn’t scared by Dou Dou’s appearance but, instead, seemed very happy.

Dou Dou looked utterly confused, having no clue what Great Grandmother was talking about.

Yet seeing Great Grandmother grin with joy made her happy too, so she leaned in and planted a kiss on Great Grandmother’s face with a smack.

Feeling the warmth on her cheek, Great Grandmother stretched out her hand in disbelief and touched it.

Then she cupped Dou Dou’s little face in her hands and caressed it carefully.

Dou Dou didn’t understand all this, but she happily said, "I have another kiss for the other side, I’ve missed Great Grandmother so much, just like I miss Dad and Mom, one kiss for each side."

Upon hearing this, Great Grandmother’s heart stirred, and she said with some surprise, "You’ve seen your Dad and Mom?"

Dou Dou, utterly oblivious to the question’s implications, naively responded, "Of course, Dad and Mom missed me and came to visit me, and they even came to attend Big Fat Pot’s—no, I mean Uncle Bao’s wedding..."

Great Grandmother gazed at Dou Dou sitting on her lap with a stunned expression, feeling as though a storm churned in her heart.

"Tell Great Grandmother, where have you been all this time without visiting me?"

"I did see you, oh, but I drowned and turned into a ghost, you couldn’t see me," Dou Dou honestly said.

"How could you be dead? You look perfectly alive to me. If you were a ghost, how could I see you now? Is Great Grandmother going to die too?" Great Grandmother chuckled.

"No, no, it’s all because of Potato, he’s really great..."

...

Although Dou Dou was young and explained things unclearly, often mixing up the sequence of events, Great Grandmother still vaguely made out a thread of reasoning.

"A talented young man with special abilities?"

Great Grandmother murmured softly to herself, feeling as though she had discovered something exciting.

"Great Grandmother, what are you talking about?" asked Dou Dou, puzzled.

"It’s nothing, go find your Dad and Mom. When you see them, tell them Great Grandmother wants to have a word with them," Great Grandmother patted her little bottom twice.

"Okie dokie." Dou Dou slid off from Great Grandmother’s legs.

"I’m leaving now, bye."

"Bye-bye."

Great Grandmother waved with a smile and then watched with wide eyes as Dou Dou disappeared before her, and soon after, a Yin Wind blew through the room and out the window.

"It’s all real, all true..." Great Grandmother rubbed her hands together.

"No wonder Wenxin behaved that way, it all makes sense now..."

Great Grandmother smiled broadly.

Dou Dou went through two more rooms and even encountered Aunt Taozi. She thought about making herself visible, but she decided it was more important to find her parents, so she didn’t interrupt Aunt Taozi.

Finally, in the fourth room, she found the right place.

"I’ve arrived, chubby here!" Dou Dou became visible and cheerfully announced her arrival.

"Why did it take you so long to come back? Have you seen the bride?" Jiang Wenxin asked.

"I have, and Great Grandmother too, uh..." Dou Dou seemed to remember something and suddenly stopped.

Jiang Wenxin didn’t mind at first, but seeing her like this, she grew alert.

"Did you become visible in front of the bride?"

"No way." Dou Dou exclaimed loudly, appearing very assertive.

But the more she denied it, the more Jiang Wenxin felt worried.

So, she changed her approach and asked bluntly, "Then in front of whom did you become visible?"

Dou Dou, being an honest child, replied, "Great Grandmother, I wanted to tell her how much I’ve missed her."

As she spoke, she gestured with her hands.

Tao Guangsha and Jiang Wenxin felt a jolt of shock at the news, worried that the revelation might be too much for the frail elderly woman.
