Chapter 944: Chapter 943: The Lonely Grave of the Imperial Family

"Uncle Ji, where on earth are you going?"

Chu Qianli followed Feng Dingchu closely.

He couldn’t possibly abandon the villagers and just walk away, she was certain of it, only she didn’t know what exactly his next plan would be.

Only a substantial fortune could resolve the current dilemma.

But Uncle Ji appeared to have nothing but the clothes on his back, where would he get such a fortune?

That didn’t seem right either; after all, he had been a Prince... but he was "dead"!

Without any descendants or the like, in death, he naturally would have nothing left.

What on earth did he want to do?

Feng Dingchu went to the bustling market, bought two horses, and then, to her surprise, they dashed toward the outskirts of the city.

They were headed for a gate of Qiansui City.

Passing through the entirety of Qiansui City, they finally stopped in front of a certain mountain not far from the city gate.

Chu Qianli continued to follow him up the mountain until, halfway up, she discovered a solitary grave.

"A gravestone for Prince Ji?" She looked at the inscription on the gravestone, then back at him.

This Prince Ji’s gravestone seemed far too humble for who he was.

"It is a Ceremonial Mound, and within it are merely some of my garments."

Feng Dingchu approached the gravestone, looking at this solitary tomb he hadn’t seen for many years.

"It looks as if someone comes to weed it regularly." Chu Qianli observed that the grass around the grave was indeed different from the surrounding area.

While the wild grass elsewhere reached sky-high, the grass around this solitary grave wasn’t even as tall as a person’s waist.

"There are people who come to clean it every year?" she asked.

"I don’t know," responded Feng Dingchu expressionlessly.

Chu Qianli fell silent.

Perhaps this was the last bit of mercy from the Imperial Family; at least they had not forgotten him.

Maybe the Empress Dowager still had a shred of conscience, ordering someone to tidy up occasionally.

But for a Prince, especially a War God Prince, it all seemed far too meager.

It didn’t even compare to the graves of ordinary families.

Feng Dingchu stood in front of the gravestone for a moment, then suddenly lifted his hand.

With a loud boom! Sand and yellow soil flew up into the air.

"Uncle Ji..." Why would he destroy his own grave?

As the dust settled, Feng Dingchu stepped over and lifted his own coffin with a single palm.

Chu Qianli’s eyes sparkled; there was something beneath the coffin!

"Do you know?" Feng Dingchu seemed surprised that she could tell there was something hidden underneath the mound of soil.

Most people couldn’t possibly discern that.

The soil here was differently structured from the surrounding earth; something was certainly buried deep within.

Otherwise, there would be no reason to dig so deep without cause.

Feng Dingchu, who had been expressionless all morning, now had a barely visible smile in his eyes upon hearing her words.

"Uncle Ji, when you smile... you look really good. Don’t keep such a stern face, relax a little now, you truly look dashing!"

When he appeared as Wu Chenzi, he would often smile.

But those smiles, in Chu Qianli’s eyes, were always tinged with a gloomy air, dim and lifeless.

Yet now, even if his smile was fleeting, it was genuinely joyful.

The smile in Feng Dingchu’s eyes gradually faded.

He focused on her wrist: "Do you have tools for excavation?"

"If you want them, there will be," she declared.

She could simply buy them!

Chu Qianli purchased a shovel and a hoe.

The two worked diligently for almost an hour and finally unearthed a chest that was neither too large nor too small.

"May I open it?" Chu Qianli’s eyes gleamed, and without waiting for his response, she immediately opened the chest.
