Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon’s Might -
Chapter 239 - 238: Reach an Agreement
Chapter 239: Chapter 238: Reach an Agreement
Although it’s not a negotiation between countries, but rather a negotiation between two forces, trying to settle it over one meal is still a bit difficult.
For Leon, he presented many conditions at the dining table, but still felt there were some omissions that needed time to fill in the gaps.
The Elves were wealthy, and anything that could be solved with money was not considered a problem. However, even the cunning Green Dragon forgot everything when hearing astronomical compensation figures. Yet, here was this Red Dragon able to propose so many conditions that didn’t involve money, each more sensitive than the last. Anyway, Hai’an found it hard to make a decision and must consult higher-ups.
"We are aware of Sir Leon’s conditions. I need to go back and request instructions." Just after finishing the meal, Hai’an proposed his departure to Leon.
"It’s rare to come by, so why rush back? Or is my place really that awful, you can’t stand it for even a moment?" Leon persuaded Hai’an, "Since you are here, let me show you around."
Leon had a simple plan: to let these Elf Envoys witness his strength, to put pressure on the Elves and force them to concede at the negotiation table. Leon wasn’t experienced in negotiation, but he had read enough novels, TV shows, and movies to know a thing or two.
If he was going to do it, he might as well do it well and couldn’t afford to be careless.
"I don’t know if you have been to Watchtower Port, but you have surely never been to my Watchtower Port... Now let me show you my pets." Leon took the three Elf Envoys up the volcano without allowing any refusal, summoning the Magma Land Shark and Magma Salamander.
The Magma Land Shark and Magma Salamander were giant elemental lives, frighteningly large, with strengths comparable to young dragons.
Leon glanced at Hai’an, imagining that the Elves must have gathered plenty of information about him, but they certainly didn’t know about his pets. After all, his pets usually only operated around the volcano. Seeing the Elves slightly frowning, a smile crept up onto his lips.
The Magma Salamander was not low in intelligence, although "not low" depended on whom it was compared to. Anyway, in Leon’s presence, it behaved properly and dared not act up.
The Magma Land Shark had low intelligence, with quite a violent temper, yet no matter what, it didn’t dare to slack off in Leon’s presence. It didn’t stop Leon from recklessly releasing Frightening Majesty to startle the Magma Land Shark, accidentally affecting others, saying, "Why are you roaring randomly, can’t you see the honorable guests? Scram!"
Leon sent away the Magma Land Shark, and the remaining Magma Salamander, seeing him wave his hand, quickly turned and dove into the molten lava. Upon looking back, he noticed Hai’an withstanding his Frightening Majesty, proving Hai’an was quite a character, while the other two Elf Rangers were not that capable, turning pale and trembling.
"The Magma Salamander is slightly smarter, the intelligence of the Magma Land Shark is similar to a Bulette... Sorry if they frightened you." Leon apologized.
"Sir Leon doesn’t need to worry." By this point, Hai’an was sure that Leon had intentions, just showing off his muscles. Now Hai’an believed that if it weren’t for Danalan having the Maze Lock, when the Red Dragon twice went to Danalan, they simply couldn’t organize an army to resist the Red Dragon. Most people couldn’t withstand the Red Dragon’s Frightening Majesty.
"Those two bastards bully the weak and fear the strong. Back then, when encountering the powerful Ancient Jade Dragon, they didn’t even dare to fart. Against those weaker than them, they immediately get spirited." Leon complained, then introduced his mountain castle, which had been designed by a Brass Dragon.
Hai’an didn’t care about a Brass Dragon, as Brass Dragons were considered weak. He just noted the term "Ancient Jade Dragon," a bit worried about what relationship the Ancient Jade Dragon and the Red Dragon had, saying, "Unexpectedly, Sir Leon knows so many dragons, not only a Brass Dragon but also connected with a powerful Ancient Jade Dragon."
"You would never guess that my Chief Maid actually has Jade Dragon’s blood." Leon answered irrelevantly.
When the Green Dragon found Danalan, Hai’an naturally was present as a powerful mage. He recalled for a moment, saying, "I remember Lady Cecilia’s scales... seemed like jade."
"Speaking of which, you must have noticed, the red-haired girl who dined with you all is actually a young Red Dragon." Leon smiled broadly, "Yet, you’d never have guessed, you couldn’t guess, she’s actually my sister, right?"
"I heard her call you brother..." Hai’an said, "Real sister?"
"Yes, real sister, better say she’s my twin sister, hatched a dozen minutes after me, slightly weaker than me." Leon chuckled, leaving the Envoys to puzzle over the rest.
With such a strong brother, the sister couldn’t possibly be weak, right? But that Red Dragon seemed a bit silly, apparently not high in status, seemingly not even as high as the Green Dragon... Hai’an was in quite a headache now, if there were two Red Dragons of similar strength, Danalan might as well surrender early.
Hai’an quickly figured it out. He was just responsible for negotiating, only tasked with reporting everything he saw and heard back to the council. Once everyone discussed and drew a line, then they would decide how to proceed with the negotiations.
Next, Leon took the Elf Envoys across the Volcanic Island, showing them the majestic Efreeti, viewing the towering Mage Tower of Tassera. Alas, Fiora didn’t live on Volcanic Island, and no one knew where she resided, not reachable at the moment.
After touring the Volcanic Island, they toured Watchtower Port. Leon mentioned the Githyanki, including the Cloud Giant from the Lost Plateau who came to investigate Watchtower Port a few days earlier, planning to trade with Watchtower Port, constantly boasting that all his weapons and equipment were crafted with the help of the Fire Giant.
"I have been in Watchtower Port for a good few years now, and it’s without a doubt more prosperous than before, you must have noticed, right?"
"I’ve traded with the Gold Shore Chamber of Commerce from the Talia Alliance for many years."
Of course, Leon wouldn’t just focus on showing off his strength; he was bound to introduce his reliability. Whether the Elf Envoys believed it or not, he repeatedly stressed that he was different from other Red Dragons. His temperament was mild; he didn’t like destruction but preferred harmony and wealth, favoring a win-win situation...
After taking the three Elf Envoys around, Leon released them, then went back to ponder over what conditions could still be proposed in the negotiations, calling Cecilia and Tassera to brainstorm, believing that three unassuming people together could surpass the great minds.
A week went by like this, Leon finally exhausted the strange force that had intruded into his body, and now he could freely use spells, with Vajra Body being the most valued skill, for after all, one needs to be alive to churn out results.
Finally, it took over two weeks to conclude the peace negotiations. Leon thought it was somewhat slow, while Cecilia felt those Elves were finally not being so dawdling.
The peace treaty was as follows—
Leon and Danalan would maintain peace.
Danalan promised to compensate Green Dragon Cecilia with ten thousand Gold Coins and Red Dragon Leon with a hundred thousand Gold Coins.
Danalan promised to establish a trade center in Watchtower Port, with at least half of the goods being traded in this center, regardless of trading partners, going to the highest bidder.
Danalan promised not to retaliate against Leon and his subordinates and not to assist his enemies.
Leon promised that neither he nor his subordinates would harm Danalan’s people, including the Elf allies, in any direct or indirect way, unless in special circumstances, and wouldn’t set foot within a fifty-kilometer radius of Danalan’s forests.
