Chapter 202: Chapter 201 Leaving
Even for two people married, there should be clear boundaries regarding property. What’s yours is yours, and what’s mine is mine. Don’t randomly add names to the deed for a house—much less between two dragons. Leon had acknowledged Tassera’s status as his mate but never thought of her belongings as his own.
The shop that got robbed was hers, not his. Meanwhile, Tassera was quite headstrong in her personality. Leon helped her intimidate the Watchtower Port guardians of the Oasis City, experiencing firsthand what it felt like to threaten and wreck a city, all while keeping himself out of the fray.
"You’re a Blue Dragon, and I’m a Blue Dragon Vein Mage. The blood of Blue Dragons runs through me too... We might even be distantly related," the Dragon Vein Mage tried to establish rapport with Tassera, as was his habit.
Tassera simply smiled without confirming anything. She said, "Let’s get down to business."
Tassera shared all the details of the incidents she had encountered.
"You’re the owner of the store..." Tassera’s shop was somewhat well-known among adventurers. The Dragon Vein Mage had heard something about it—if not the entire story, at least bits and pieces. "We will ensure justice is served, and evil will not escape unpunished."
The Dragon Vein Mage seemed to want to say something but hesitated. Tassera decisively declared, "Until I get my belongings back, no one is allowed to leave. There’s no room for negotiation."
"If you find this to be a problem..." Tassera glanced at the Red Dragon. She thought to herself that her best investment over the years was in him. Time had proven she had chosen wisely. "You’re welcome to talk to him about it."
Since she wasn’t planning to continue in the desert, Tassera didn’t mind antagonizing people. If the orderly evil Blue Dragon was at least amenable to discussion, anything could be negotiated. It wasn’t like the chaotic evil Red Dragon, where even his subordinates had to spend most of their time fawning over him just to survive.
This was a fantasy world of swords and magic, with all kinds of extraordinary spells.
The Animal Communication Skill allowed people, for the duration of the spell, to understand and verbally interact with beasts. While beasts had limited knowledge and cognitive abilities owing to their intelligence, they could still provide bits and pieces of information.
So, who had participated in looting the Blue Dragon’s shop... It was still amusing to think that a Blue Dragon would even run a shop, moonlighting as a Divination Master. The hilarious part was that the Blue Dragon had an exceptionally strong Red Dragon companion. Asking mice or cats might yield some unexpected clues.
The Thought Investigation Spell enabled one to read the thoughts of certain creatures.
During the robbery, many people had died—a situation where the Dead Communication Skill came into play. The responses from corpses tended to be brief, cryptic, or repetitive.
Leon didn’t know much about what those people had done, but their actions had been swift. Within a single day, he helped Tassera capture the culprits, both dead and alive, recovered all stolen items, and even secured a hefty compensation. Among the stolen property was a Stone Magic Statue—a remarkably valuable item.
Originally, Leon had merely wanted to lend a hand and had no additional motives. He hadn’t expected to receive a compensation package himself—or perhaps a "gift" would be a better term. The reward was a chest full of rubies, worth several thousand gold coins without question.
Several thousand gold coins was a considerable fortune, but for such a massive Oasis City, it was negligible. As long as they could rid themselves of the troublemakers, an additional expense wasn’t a big deal.
Tassera retrieved her stolen belongings and received sizable compensation. Leon also received a gift... though he was more satisfied with the fight. After so many years, he finally got to experience threatening and damaging a city firsthand. True to his word, he left the Oasis City and returned to Tassera’s lair.
"Are you taking your followers with you?" Leon asked, impressed by Tassera’s Tlincalli followers. These Tlincalli were powerful hunters, rivaling Salamanders in strength.
"Tlincalli primarily live in arid regions... They’re desert nomads and rarely settle anywhere. They can stay in the desert and guard my lair—they can’t follow me to the coast." As a Blue Dragon, Tassera valued relationships deeply. "They’ve watched over my lair for so many years; it’s time to set them free."
Tassera’s lair was vast, filled with glass-like crystalline formations forged by the Lightning Breath of a Blue Dragon. Though those formations held little monetary value, her high platform in human form, laboratory stocked with vibrant magical materials, and a study containing thousands of books were undoubtedly priceless.
Tassera owned a Dimension Bag, but even a relatively large one could only store a few cubic meters of items and had various limitations—weight limits, energy restrictions, and constraints on placing more powerful weapons inside. Compared to Leon’s Sleeve of the Universe, her bag was worlds apart.
Tassera couldn’t transport everything in one go; she needed Leon and his Sleeve of the Universe for help. Even then, not everything could be packed—Leon’s Sleeve of the Universe contained his equipment, including the Catastrophe Blade and Dragon Armor, all bulky items alongside other miscellaneous possessions. There wasn’t much space left, forcing them to abandon a few items.
"Now that you’re leaving the desert and heading to Watchtower Port, should you inform your current overlord?" Leon inquired curiously. "The overlord doesn’t matter. It’s mainly your parents."
"I feel I should let them know before I leave." Tassera suddenly turned to Leon. "Will you come with me?"
"Nope." Leon answered so quickly it felt reflexive. "You go ahead—I’ll guard the lair here. This is the critical period before departure; nothing can go wrong now."
Tassera didn’t press Leon and set off on her own, leaving him behind at the lair.
Leon thought of his parents from before crossing over. Even though decades had passed, he still missed them. Red Dragons were known for their excellent memory, but sometimes being too good at remembering wasn’t a blessing. While he didn’t feel particularly invested in his new dragon mother and sisters after crossing over, claiming no care at all would be deceptive.
He wondered when he’d see them again. With his growing fame, the day would inevitably come.
Leon "held down the fort" for a day until Tassera returned. After a quick stop to visit the Brass Dragon, they flew toward the Lost Plateau. It seemed they wouldn’t return to the desert after this... Or perhaps they would—the desert was home to an ancient fallen empire’s tomb that remained unconquered.
In the end, they spent half a day traveling to Watchtower Port, where everything was as it should be.
