Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon’s Might
Chapter 200 - 199: Role Playing

Chapter 200: Chapter 199: Role Playing

It’s been more than twenty years, almost thirty, since Leon became a Red Dragon. In truth, he really wanted to fully embrace being a Red Dragon, doing things a Red Dragon should do—like attacking kingdoms and destroying cities... though he wasn’t particularly interested in kidnapping princesses.

It wasn’t that he had suddenly decided to unleash himself and yield to the chaotic and evil nature of a Red Dragon.

His soul always belonged to a human. Raised with a sense of goodness since childhood, he may have broken laws here and there, but when it came to actual crime, it was something he only dared to imagine. Countless times, he’d fantasized about ramming his car into those who flagrantly violated traffic rules, and while he had certainly committed some wrongdoings, it was mainly because he wanted to engage in role-playing.

To engage in mindless attacks on kingdoms and destroy cities purely for the sake of experience felt idiotic to Leon—and morally incompatible. Unless there was some unique loot as a reward, he didn’t even like randomly killing people in games, though going through cabinets and stealing things gave him no moral pause.

Because he lacked parental protection, he spent his baby dragon days hiding and evading threats. During his youthful dragon years, he managed to carve out and rule a tiny patch of forest. By the time he grew into a teenage dragon, his journey stretched from the forest to the desert. He had admittedly done quite a lot and was undeniably strong, but recklessness could still cost him his life. When he finally became an older teenage dragon, he no longer needed to cower so much...

He wasn’t doing it purely for the experience; nor was he being idiotic. His actions served his own interests. Leon initially thought of targeting Watchtower Port to make a bold impression, but had not anticipated that the town would surrender outright.

My phone gets stolen, I demand the bus to stop, search everyone onboard, and declare that no one gets off until my phone is recovered—is there really a problem here? My shop is robbed; surely, you owe me back my stolen belongings, right? Regarding attacking the Oasis City, Leon felt no moral pressure whatsoever—in fact, he found the thought quite thrilling.

After an uneventful night, Leon woke up early at dawn. The energy he had expended yesterday was completely replenished. After a brief discussion with Tassera, he decisively reverted to his Dragon Form.

"Someone among you has done something wrong, and now I demand an explanation from you all." Leon flew above Oasis City, circling in loops.

"Until this matter is fully resolved—" Leon flew as low as he possibly could, skimming past the watchtower, "no one is allowed to leave the city. Otherwise, you will face attack. Don’t say we didn’t warn you."

"Last night, something happened—a store was robbed." Tassera flew alongside Leon. "Yes, that store belongs to me. I am the owner of that establishment... Until my property is fully returned and all the criminals brought to justice, we will not cease our actions."

Tassera was the first to unleash Frightening Majesty, throwing most of the civilians and livestock into a state of panic. Low-level professionals struggled to pass their saves.

Leon immediately activated his fearsome aura in response, transforming into a terrifying beast from ancient times.

There wasn’t a single person in the entire Oasis City who could stand their ground without trembling; even someone mighty like a Cloud Giant would need considerable effort to overcome their fear.

Neither Leon nor Tassera had much experience. They flew circles around Oasis City’s skies multiple times, but failed to witness anyone attempting to flee the city so they could make an example of them. Nor did they encounter any attacks—even though there were operators stationed beside the crossbow cannons, the cannons seemed eerily silent. Worse yet, they didn’t even greet a single negotiator to talk with them. For a moment, they genuinely felt at a loss, unsure what to do next.

Tassera shot Leon a glance—as if asking, "What now?"

Leon tilted his head toward the Blue Dragon, signaling her to follow him.

After circling around Oasis City for half a lap, Leon led Tassera down to the tallest building in the city.

Fortunately, they appeared to be twenty-meter-long colossuses, but factoring out their long necks and tails, their actual body lengths weren’t excessively exaggerated. Moreover, their weight was far less than that of similarly sized terrestrial creatures. The building had been reinforced with magic; otherwise, it would have collapsed already.

"Someone’s coming," Leon said sharply. It was mostly because, right now, there weren’t many people in the entire Oasis City brave enough to walk outside.

The first to approach them was a middle-aged beauty with a hint of maturity. The blue scales on the side of her face identified her as a Blue Dragon Vein Mage, and the Dragon Wings unfurling behind her revealed her formidable capabilities.

According to the setting guide, a sorcerer possessing Dragon Bloodline could only create Dragon Wings at level 14. As a bonus action, they would sprout a pair of dragon wings from their back, granting them flight speed equal to their walking speed.

"Blue Dragon, Red Dragon... What do you two want?" The Dragon Vein Mage dared not approach the dragons too closely. Despite the fact that her opponents were merely a young Blue Dragon and a teenage Red Dragon, she had the ability to discern their age brackets. "This is not a place for you to behave recklessly."

"Leave immediately, and we can forgive past grievances." If possible, the Dragon Vein Mage did not want a fight, knowing that defeating two dragons would inevitably damage surrounding buildings and cause innocent civilian casualties.

"If we dared to come, we weren’t planning to leave so easily," Leon said menacingly. "As for what we want? So I’ve been talking all this time, and none of you were listening?"

Fully armed warriors mounted on flying dragons, Elf Rangers with bows and curved swords strapped to their backs, a bald person whose identity as either a Mage or Contract Mage was unclear, and Priests outfitted even more heavily than the warriors—one after another, seven or eight more figures showed up. Leon couldn’t help but marvel at the sight. Watchtower Port had nothing like this; the sands of the desert continually uncover ruins yet seem to "nurture" people. This Oasis City’s caliber was undeniably far superior to Watchtower Port’s.

"So many of you have come—looks like we won’t settle this without a fight..." Leon spotted plenty of ordinary warriors as well as opportunistic adventurers, among whom were people he recognized. After all, he had lived in this city for a period of time, frequently visiting the taverns to listen to stories.

Leon glanced at Tassera until the Blue Dragon landed on a different rooftop. He then turned to the Oasis City’s Guardians and declared, "Come on, then."

To be honest, Leon yearned for a great battle far more than resolving the issue. He wanted to play the role of an Evil Dragon bent on citywide destruction.

Speaking of which, that Ophalos Demon hadn’t been much of a challenge for him—the fight had ended before he could truly enjoy it. Right now, he desperately craved an exhilarating battle.

If Chains Demon General Marahis just couldn’t resist teleporting over, it would’ve been perfect. It’d allow Leon to have a satisfying fight while helping Tassera resolve her matter... With Chains Demon General Marahis involved, Tassera would have no choice but to rely on him—thinking of it that way didn’t seem so bad.

That peculiar Red Dragon, towering and unnerving due to its bipedal stance, outwardly appeared as savage and ferocious as any other Red Dragon. But judging by how it spoke, it was clear that communication was entirely possible—unlike other Red Dragons, who were inherently self-centered and did whatever they pleased.

The Dragon Vein Mage wanted to continue negotiating, vaguely sensing that the Red Dragon seemed to be encouraging them to attack. But the other Guardians didn’t dwell on such notions; the impatient warriors had already pulled out their javelins and hurled them at the Red Dragon.

It’s not that I want to unleash havoc—it’s you who attacked me first. Leon stared at the javelin with satisfaction, feeling the moral burden lift completely.

The situation had undeniably been stirred up by his own manipulations. Reacting in retaliation wasn’t morally defensible, but Leon only cared about his own set of values.
