Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon’s Might

Chapter 187: Chapter 186 Unlucky Child

Leon didn’t know that the Cloud Giant and the Silver Dragon, worried about his safety, had already located Angermog’s lair at Sunshine Peak.

Truth be told, even when it comes to villains, it’s always better to find friends and companions among good people. Because only good people will help you when you’re in danger; only good people will worry about your safety. Villains, on the other hand, will simply scatter like beasts and birds at the first sign of trouble. The only question is, why would a good person want to be friends with a villain?

The grudge had already been settled. Leon now had a single goal: to take down Angermog once and for all, so he’d no longer be haunted by a fully mature Red Dragon. He had moved from the desert to a Volcanic Island near Watchtower Port, not far from the Lost Plateau, though not too close either.

Angermog, the mature Red Dragon, was larger than Leon, and naturally, his wings were bigger too. Under normal circumstances, his flying speed was faster than Leon’s. However, Angermog was now covered in wounds, which inevitably slowed him down.

In contrast, Leon was unscathed, though his mana had been heavily depleted. This was akin to a mage exhausting their spell slots but remaining unharmed in the process. With the Big Step Running ability gifted by the Silver Dragon, Leon’s movement speed—particularly his flying speed—was actually faster than Angermog’s.

So, did Leon quickly catch up to Angermog?

No way was it that simple.

Angermog had lived in the Lost Plateau for over a hundred years and knew the mountain ranges like the back of his claw. He could randomly fly loops around any mountain and suddenly veer off from some hidden corner, easily losing Leon in the process—at least until Leon used Gathering Form and Scattering Energy to accelerate and close the gap again.

Not only that, but Angermog would dive into thick clouds, using them to obscure Leon’s vision.

Angermog’s most nauseating trick, however, was flying close to Dwarf Castles, Fire Giant Fortresses, or Frost Giant Villages to provoke them. When Leon pursued Angermog into these areas, he often faced well-prepared attacks.

Even so, Leon had no intention of giving up on Angermog—not even after chasing him across half the Lost Plateau.

Leon didn’t believe that a wounded Angermog could continue flying indefinitely. Besides, the Cloud Giant and Silver Dragon were bound to join the chase sooner or later, turning this pursuit into a three-pronged hunt.

Leon’s reasoning turned out to be spot-on. Although the Cloud Giant and the Silver Dragon had yet to make an appearance, Angermog’s flying speed was visibly slowing down.

Angermog noticed this too and decided to stop fleeing, instead turning toward his longtime lair—a volcano with an active volcanic crater.

"Run! Why aren’t you running anymore?" Leon taunted, landing with Angermog at the crater, completely disregarding the nuisances a volcanic terrain could bring to adventurers: minor earthquakes, heavy toxic smoke that obscured vision, and sudden eruptions of molten lava.

Angermog looked rather pitiful at this moment. Flat on the ground, he gazed up at the imposing figure of Leon and asked, "We have no real enmity. Why are you so determined to hunt me down?"

It’s because you stole from the Cloud Giant, indirectly affecting me. Otherwise, I wouldn’t bother. Though these were Leon’s thoughts, he didn’t plan to reveal the truth to Angermog. Instead, he said, "Weren’t you the one who started this trouble in the first place? You think you’re allowed to mess with me, and I’m not allowed to grow stronger and strike back?"

"That matter is already in the past," Angermog replied.

"Do you believe your own words?" Leon sneered. "I’m a Red Dragon; I know just how deeply vengeful we can be. If the opportunity arises, I don’t believe for a second that you wouldn’t seek revenge for the defeat I handed you before."

"What kind of Red Dragon are you? I’ve never seen a Red Dragon wield a sword, though the grudge-bearing part? That is undeniably ’Red Dragon,’" Angermog said venomously. "So, are we truly going to fight to the death today? A clash between the same kin?"

Angermog was unwilling to admit defeat. Yet given his current condition—leaving might be his only option to fight another day. "Are you truly unwilling to let me go?" he asked.

"If our positions were reversed, would you let me go? I think not!" Leon laughed, "And as for kin-slaughter, what does that mean to a Colorful Dragon like me?"

"You think you’ve already won?" Angermog suddenly burst into laughter.

"Isn’t that obvious?" Leon smirked, glancing around. "Your henchmen at best can interfere; perhaps not even that."

"It’s not them," Angermog said cryptically. "I recently acquired something—a remarkable item."

"What item?" Leon chuckled. "If you pull out a Divine Artifact, I’ll turn around and walk away right now."

"It’s not a Divine Artifact, but something close enough—a miracle that can turn the tide for me." Angermog spat out a box, pressing it with his claw. "A set of Impermanence Cards."

Leon froze upon hearing Angermog’s words.

His Impermanence Cards—now being used against him by his enemy.

"Five cards," Angermog bellowed. "I’ll draw five cards."

Leon had no idea how such a massive Red Dragon could draw cards from a set smaller than one of his claws, but sure enough, Angermog began pulling out cards one by one. While Leon debated whether to take advantage of this moment to attack, Angermog drew the first card: Wanderer; the second: Gemstone—a heap of gemstones appeared, whether pre-existing or newly conjured. The third card: Sun—a talisman radiating Magic Light appeared out of thin air; clearly an exceptionally rare artifact. The fourth card: Throne; the fifth card: Skull.

With the Skull Card drawn, the Death Avatar appeared without warning.

This entity was a humanoid skeleton draped in tattered black robes, wielding a spectral scythe with ghostly precision. It looked at Leon and declared, "This is a battle between him and me. I warn you: any interference will bring severe repercussions."

The Skull Card. Someone had drawn the Skull Card. Leon felt his lips twitch.

"Don’t worry; I have no intention of getting involved in your fight," Leon replied.

"What nonsense is this?" As a Blood Scale Frenzy, Angermog was ferocious enough that even an invincible Leon might feel intimidated—confident he could tear Leon apart without hesitation. Yet instead of evading combat like a Death Knight, Angermog faced the Death Avatar head-on.

With one mighty slap, Angermog knocked the Death Avatar to the ground, immediately following it up with a Flame Breath.

While the Death Avatar might have been formidable to ordinary beings—its power had claimed countless lives of those unlucky enough to draw the Skull Card—it simply wasn’t enough to face a mature Red Dragon.

Angermog killed the Death Avatar with ease, raising his head to find Leon retreating.

"Afraid of those little tricks?" Angermog mocked.

"Not at all," Leon replied. "I’m simply stepping back to avoid being dragged down—finding a good spot to enjoy the show."

"What show?" Angermog finally noticed the portal.

"Where is this thing from?" Angermog crushed a Wight emerging from the portal—a fearsome martial artist clad in armor, armed with a bow and blade.

When a glory-obsessed warrior dies without achieving its coveted honor, its fierce and hungry soul may transform into a Blade Wraith, haunting the battlefield forever. Angermog devoured the Blade Wraith in one bite, leaving nothing behind.

Wights, Blade Wraiths, Contract Breakers, Resurrected Corpses, ghosts, Ghouls—they poured endlessly from the portal. Most undead creatures proved no more difficult to handle than a simple slap or bite from Angermog, until a Vampire emerged, followed by a Death Knight mounted on a nightmare steed.

Leon noticed the Death Knight on the nightmare steed staring at him and recalled an incident where he had eliminated a Death Knight intruding on the Volcanic Island.

A ghastly dragon head emerged first from the portal, followed by two claws gripping its edge. Accompanying sinister silence, the final figure to step through was the Death Horror Monarch mounted on an undead dragon beast—the strongest of the three Death Horror Monarchs: the Extinction Death Horror Monarch.

Leon withdrew further, his muscles taut.

The Extinction Death Horror Monarch cared about nothing but the Impermanence Cards. Her ultimate goal was to destroy all decks and end her unbearable existence. If possible, she didn’t mind taking the multiverse down with her.

Thankfully, the Extinction Death Horror Monarch ignored Leon, instead tugging on her reins and directing the undead dragon beast toward Angermog. "Give me the Impermanence Cards," she commanded.

Angermog could see the tremendous strength of the undead-mounted woman, yet he showed no willingness to hand over the Impermanence Cards—not even a single copper coin.

"Then I’ll simply take them," she declared.

The Extinction Death Horror Monarch disappeared from view, teleporting directly behind Angermog and thrusting her Bloodsucking Sword into him. Each strike left deep, blood-covered wounds that froze over instantly.

Already weakened from his fight with Leon and unable to activate his Blood Scale ability, Angermog stood no chance against the near-primordial power of the Extinction Death Horror Monarch. Ultimately, with one final Void Rift slash, Angermog was reduced to dust—a sight that left Leon trembling.

Angermog was merely an appetizer; this was his true opponent?

What a joke!

If the Extinction Death Horror Monarch rushed at him, Leon would use Gathering Form and Scattering Energy to flee.

Leon noticed the Death Knight whispering something to the Extinction Death Horror Monarch and hurriedly said, "I have no objections; you may take the Impermanence Cards away."

"I helped you. If it weren’t for me, he wouldn’t have drawn the cards, and you wouldn’t have had the chance to destroy a set of Impermanence Cards," Leon added, while strategizing whether he should escape via Gathering Form and Scattering Energy out of the volcano or dive headlong into the molten lava lake.

"Fine. As long as you don’t interfere," the Extinction Death Horror Monarch replied, picking up the scattered Impermanence Cards. "I hope we’ll have another chance to collaborate."

The Extinction Death Horror Monarch refrained from attacking and turned back toward the portal, leaving Leon to finally exhale in relief.
