Chapter 185 - 184: Enemies Meet with Particular Animosity
Chapter 185: Chapter 184: Enemies Meet with Particular Animosity
Leon was brimming with confidence, eager to find Angmog for a fierce battle.
"He’s just a teenage dragon, right? Did he really defeat Angmog before?"
Grianna watched the silhouette of the Red Dragon disappear behind the mountains, then turned to the Cloud Giant.
The disparity between a teenage dragon and a mature dragon was something Grianna, as a dragon herself, understood better than anyone else.
A teenage dragon could practically be described as green and untested—almost entirely unknown. They might die at the hands of a Dragon Slayer without even knowing how it happened. By contrast, tales from bards about dragons destroying kingdoms and seizing their treasures were often based on true events involving mature dragons.
"That guy is strong. You can’t treat him like any random teenage dragon. His physique far exceeds other dragons of his age, and he’s also an innate spellcaster. His Frightening Majesty... even I..." Mankus hesitated, unwilling to lose face. "Well... even I would be intimidated for a short moment if he suddenly fixed his gaze on me."
"As for whether he actually defeated Angmog, honestly, I don’t know,"
Mankus mused for a moment before saying, "At the time, he was together with a young Green Dragon. Even if they did defeat Angmog, it must have been a coordinated effort between the two dragons... and even then, it was likely a pyrrhic victory, because I didn’t see him for years afterward until much later."
"Back then, Angmog hadn’t yet entered Blood Scale Frenzy; now he has." Mankus exhaled slowly. "Anyway, even if Leon can’t defeat Angmog, he could still escape. We’ve given him so many potions and spells."
"As long as he lures Angmog here," Mankus gripped his Nail Head Hammer and waved it. "Three against one—Angmog is definitely no match."
The wind howled dramatically.
"By the way, why are you so concerned about him?" Mankus glanced at the Silver Dragon. "He’s a Red Dragon, you’re a Silver Dragon. You two should be rivals—enemies, even."
"Leon is clearly different from other Red Dragons. I can sense it; he’s rational," Grianna replied. "The reason Silver Dragons oppose Red Dragons lies mainly in the chaotic and evil nature of Red Dragons. If a Red Dragon does nothing to instigate us, why should we oppose them? We could even possibly be friends."
"Don’t bother fantasizing about that," Mankus said, waving dismissively. "That guy might be rational and communicative, but he’s not a ’good’ dragon. He’s willing to reason within his boundaries, but once something crosses his limits, he has no qualms about resorting to violence—robbery, even murder."
"If a gemstone is priced at 100 Gold Coins, he’d likely buy it. But if it’s priced at 10,000 Gold Coins, he wouldn’t want to spend that much, yet he’d desire it fiercely. Ten times out of ten, he’d opt for theft," Mankus said, crossing his arms and nodding. "He can discern right from wrong, but he’s still heavily influenced by the chaotic and evil nature of Red Dragons."
"Have you known him for a long time?" Grianna stared at the Cloud Giant. "You seem quite familiar with him."
"You know I’m good at gauging people," Mankus shrugged. "If I had to categorize him, I’d say he leans toward chaotic-neutral. He values his freedom, does good deeds at times, and bad ones at others—utterly unpredictable."
"Alright, enough talk. You can interact with him, but don’t expect to steer him toward virtue... Now we need to prepare ourselves." Mankus raised his hands, beginning to manipulate the weather.
At the same time, Leon flew around Sunshine Peak and quickly found the cleverly hidden entrance to Angmog’s lair, concealed by rocks. He slowed down in spirals before descending.
Leon dove into Angmog’s lair. Because the cavern was too low and narrow for swordplay, he didn’t draw the Catastrophe Blade, but instead equipped the Tear Claw and Dragon’s Jaw—just in case.
A swarm of Magma Mephits and Smoke Demon Bats—small, pesky creatures akin to flies or mosquitoes—posed no real threat as guards and weren’t worth worrying about. A quick swipe of his claws was enough to scatter them.
He pressed forward.
A massive Fire Element blocked the path leading deeper into Angmog’s lair.
No, it looked very similar, but that wasn’t a Fire Element—it was Activated Breath, formed from the Breath Weapon of a Colorful Dragon. Activated Breath showcases the powerful energy within a Colorful Dragon’s breath.
Through extensive training, dragons can learn to draw magic energy from the Elemental Plane and shape their breath into humanoid forms. Colorful Dragons often use these humanoid-shaped breaths to guard their treasure vaults or roam their territories collecting valuables.
Activated Breath possesses a certain level of intelligence. The Activated Breath created by Angmog’s Breath Weapon was even capable of sensing hatred.
The Activated Breath immediately sprang into action, swinging its fists as it launched a fierce attack toward Leon.
Such trivial Activated Breath posed no challenge. Leon slapped it apart with just a few claw strikes.
After traversing the long hallway, Leon arrived at a spacious cavern at the end—a massive chamber large enough to house the enormous body of a Red Dragon. Here, not only could Leon swing a sword, but he could even fly freely if he wanted.
Leon glanced around. Molten lava flowed freely, cracks steamed as they exhaled heat, shattered swords, shields, and armor lied scattered—likely relics of unfortunate adventurers. There were also piles of massive bones whose size indicated they couldn’t possibly digestible—even for dragons. A corner was piled high with Gold Coins, Silver Coins, and gemstones...
Dragon Armor—where was his Dragon Armor?
Leon surveyed the area but didn’t see his Dragon Armor, suggesting this wasn’t Angmog’s primary lair.
"This place has its guardian," a "Human Warrior" sat on an ornate throne, head lowered, not even glancing at Leon. "While Lord Angmog isn’t here, you better leave quickly if you want to keep your life intact."
"Don’t even think about taking a single Copper Coin. The loss of even a single Copper Coin would provoke Lord Angmog into a mad hunt."
The "Human Warrior" raised his eyes and found himself staring at an enormous, unfamiliar Red Dragon. The dragon’s slightly parted jaws revealed razor-sharp teeth, reinforced with steel, while its limbs were clad in armor—everything about its appearance exuded power.
Leon instinctively stood to his full height and asked, "You must be the caretaker Angmog stationed here to guard his lair and treasures, right?"
"Show your true form, Evil Ghost," Leon said, drawing the Catastrophe Blade from thin air. "You can try attacking me, but I suggest you focus all your effort on escaping, so perhaps you can spare your life before Angmog returns."
The "Human Warrior" revealed its true form—a demonized Ogre with fang-like horns atop its head, inexplicably with crimson skin. It stared warily at Leon and said, "I don’t care who you are. Lord Angmog is the most formidable Red Dragon in these parts. Aren’t you afraid of his revenge for robbing his lair?"
"Done talking?" Leon dismissed its words entirely. "Done? Then I’m attacking now."
Leon raised his sword and struck.
The Evil Ghost reflexively raised its longsword to block.
It lacked the strength and skill of a Death Knight—and against Leon, who had gulped down a Bloodthirsty Elixir, boosted with Bull’s Strength by a Cloud Giant, and wielded a weapon enchanted with Elemental Weapon—it never stood a chance. The block was a futile gesture.
The longsword shattered, as did the Ogre’s arm. Though it wasn’t killed outright, the Evil Ghost resorted to casting an Invisibility Technique.
Leon wasn’t in a rush to kill it. He patiently waited until the Ogre turned invisible—then whipped his tail around, smashing it.
No spells were needed. Pure physical combat sufficed. Leon effortlessly subdued the Ogre before he started looting the treasures in the lair.
The scattered gemstones were cumbersome to collect. Some of the Gold Coins that fell into crevices required extraction, forcing Leon to shift into his human form... Just as he noticed a gemstone-decorated, blackened young dragon skull and leaned in for a closer look, a bellow of rage echoed.
"Who dares trespass into my lair and steal from me?" Angmog had sensed the intrusion of his lair, flying over from another lair—or who knows where—with his massive body blocking the entrance to prevent escape. "Foolish and reckless!"
"Long time no see," Leon said with a chuckle, looking at Angmog. "Finally, we meet again."
"You?" Angmog squinted dangerously, unable to associate Leon’s human form with any particular dragon he knew.
"What, your memory that terrible? I’m your old pal," Leon said, shifting back to Dragon Form. He flexed his wrists to equip Tear Claw, bared his teeth with Dragon’s Jaw, and finally drew the Catastrophe Blade, pointing it at Angmog. "Now do you remember me?"
"It’s you!" A Red Dragon wielding a sword could only be him. Angmog’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "I’ve been looking for you for a long time. Didn’t expect you to show yourself!"
"My defeated foe, if you beg for mercy now, I might spare you," Leon said boldly, deliberately provoking Angmog with the sole purpose of luring him out into the open.
"So arrogant," Angmog sneered, his terrifying aura surging, boiling fury stirring and instilling terror in all who faced him.
"Prepare for death!" Angmog roared.
Leon showed no fear, activating his aura as killing intent spread around him. "Look at me, you whelp!"
This guy—last time, he was completely ordinary in appearance; why did he suddenly look monstrous now?
Angmog sensed that his own aura couldn’t match Leon’s and felt inexplicably uneasy, which only fueled his rage. His eyes turned blood-red, blood seeped from his scales, outlining his body, and a crimson sheen enveloped his scales. Not only did this enhance his terrifying aura, but it supernaturally increased his resistance to spells and weapon strikes.
Blood Scale Frenzy—this was it.
The civilian dragon had become a professional one.
Upon seeing Angmog’s blood-drenched form, Leon decisively activated Vajra Body and raised the Catastrophe Blade high to strike downward.
Angmog ignored Leon’s attack, letting the heavy blade strike his back as he lunged forward to pin Leon down and crush him—only to find that he couldn’t budge him at all.
No wait... did this guy drink some potions?
