Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon’s Might -
Chapter 156 - 155 Night Raid
Chapter 156: Chapter 155 Night Raid
Leon did not tiptoe consciously, slowed his pace, then stealthily crept up behind Tassera, tapped her left shoulder, jumped to her right side, and gave her a startle... Men remain boys until the end, and when in high spirits, could engage in such childish antics.
Leon Jing’s mood today was neither good nor bad, mainly tired. He approached Tassera with a normal pace, only to find her randomly tearing at the bread and feeding seagulls, completely unaware of his presence... even though she would normally notice him even with her back turned.
Cough cough cough—
Leon raised his hand to his mouth and gently coughed once, startling Tassera. He snatched the bread from her hand and said, "What are you thinking about? You seem so absent-minded."
"It’s nothing." Tassera glanced at Leon, tidied her long hair tousled by the sea breeze, and tucked it behind her ears.
Since Tassera was not willing to talk about it, Leon didn’t pry any further. He grabbed a seagull that was trying to steal the bread from his hand, plucked a few feathers, and let it go, asking, "Where is that guy? The bronze dragon. Fiora."
"She left." Tassera finally perked up a bit.
"When did she leave?" Leon didn’t believe Tassera would be indifferent to Fiora, "What did you two talk about? Don’t tell me you didn’t say anything."
"Just chatted casually." Tassera paused, pursed her lips, her brows furrowed, "How should I put it? I think she’s a bit odd."
"I thought so, a bit clueless." Leon didn’t know how to explain, but the impression Fiora gave him was like those classic female knight characters in the anime he watched before crossing over—full of a sense of justice, then brainless with big chests, and full of all sorts of weird ideas...
Thank goodness she is a powerful bronze dragon. If she were a common person, she would certainly have been devoured to the point where nothing was left... Though that isn’t quite accurate. If she wasn’t a powerful bronze dragon who could live recklessly, with hardly any opponents who could challenge her, she might not have ended up this way.
"She’s read too many strange books. An ignorant young lady cloistered from worldly affairs." Tassera said, "Bronze dragons mate for life and always carefully look after their eggs and offspring until they reach adulthood... I think her parents took too good care of her."
Tassera thought of her own parents, who always treated her as a freak.
Leon sighed, thinking that he used to have good parents too. After coming to this world, all he had was a foul-tempered Mother Dragon, forcing him to fend for himself right after hatching, barely filling his stomach with crabs and snails, and being driven out of his territory during his baby dragon phase. If it weren’t for Golden Finger... Without Golden Finger, he would’ve had no means to survive, and certainly wouldn’t have died halfway through.
"I’ve noticed you’ve been sneaking glances at me." Leon, having fed all his bread to the seagulls, clapped his hands to brush off the crumbs. He was quite perceptive now.
"You’ve been sneaking glances at me too." Tassera said, "Otherwise how would you know I was sneaking glances at you?"
"I am openly looking." Leon’s gaze fell on the gemstone on Tassera’s chest, big and mesmerizing.
Tassera grabbed the gemstone, holding her collar.
"Miser." Leon remarked, "Are you still planning to stroll around Watchtower Port? You should be done by now, right?"
Watchtower Port wasn’t a large city, otherwise, it wouldn’t be his turn to act so presumptuously—he was strong now, but not to that extent—it was just a medium-sized city after all. There wasn’t much to visit; just one area with plazas.
"Just had a simple stroll." Tassera said, "Would you accompany me for a walk now?"
"Another day, I’m dead tired now." Leon thought for a moment and said, "But I have no problem taking you out for a meal."
"You’re paying then." Tassera stated.
"Of course, I’m paying." Leon retorted, "Or should I expect any of you misers to do it?"
"Where have I been stingy? Tell me." Tassera said expressionlessly, "I shouldn’t have opened up my library to you for free. I should charge you a gold coin for every book you borrow; then I’d have money to treat you."
"Am I wrong, alright?" Leon wasn’t so ungrateful, just remembering the occasional stinginess of Tassera, as it’s a giant dragon’s nature not to be trifled with, forgetting the kindness Tassera showed him, like allowing him to browse and borrow books from her collection, and always answering his questions when he did not understand something.
Leon took Tassera to a restaurant, ordering every delicious dish he could think of, ranging from Traveler’s Stew, Miner’s Pie to Tavern Steak, and Pan-Fried Tuna, making sure to order more than enough rather than worrying about leftovers.
A halfling chef, he was determined to win.
With just those few items, it wouldn’t be nearly enough to fill one’s stomach; it was just for the taste. To truly be satiated, even a giant elk wouldn’t suffice—they would need at least another giant boar. After leaving the restaurant, Leon took Tassera to Volcanic Island to see his new lair and to check on the Magma Salamander.
"Do Magma Salamanders and Magma Land Sharks fight?" Tassera remained in human form, maintaining her human form as she sat on Dragon Form Leon’s back to reach Volcanic Island.
"We just met and got into a fight," said Leon. "The Efreeti couldn’t stop it, and I had to step in."
Tassera stood at the crater’s edge: "Who won, who lost?"
"The Magma Land Shark is still not mature, so I’m sure the Magma Salamander is a bit more formidable," Leon, having fought a mature Magma Land Shark, knew how strong a mature one could be. It was tough to fight one without kiting, and even if you win, it would be hard to walk away without a serious injury. "Once the Magma Land Shark matures, the Magma Salamander won’t stand a chance."
"Do you think it’s possible for the Magma Land Shark and Magma Salamander to have babies?" Tassera always had many incredible ideas, and her thinking was likewise unconventional.
"Do you think cats and dogs can have babies?" said Leon. "The difference is too great for them to reproduce together."
Tassera nodded.
"How about I give them names?" suggested Leon, watching the Magma Land Shark sleeping on one side of the volcano and the Magma Salamander staring blankly on the other. "Which sounds better, Lucky and Prosperous or Flower and Gem?"
"Neither sound good," Tassera said. "What weird names... you really have no talent for naming."
"Even though I’m not great at naming," Leon said defensively, "those names are still okay."
Cecilia arrived belatedly, landing beside Leon.
"Did you get things sorted out on your end?" Leon glanced at Cecilia.
"There’s no need for me to arrange things; those Hobgoblins will gather up goblins, Bugbears, and Kobolds on their own, then set up camp on their own after gathering them..." Cecilia seemed to suddenly remember something, "Does master need me to send someone over here?"
"No need," said Leon. "I’m not short on manpower here, one Fire Giant can count for at least twenty of your Hobgoblins. I promised them that they could go after ten years of work for me, so they’re quite diligent now... I suppose, anyway, the Efreeti will manage them well."
Passing through the Lost Plateau, he encountered some Fire Giant bandits and captured a few of the more softly-spined ones, who now came in handy.
"Then I won’t send anyone over," said Cecilia.
"I don’t need you to handle this side; the Efreeti will take care of it," Leon said. "Do whatever you like, whether it’s claiming territories, gathering minions, or building nests. Just don’t forget the task I’ve given you... I want to see results within a month."
"I know," swore Cecilia. "I won’t delay master’s mission."
It was midday when they left the Lost Plateau, and after a brief chat, the evening soon fell.
Leon yawned; he was truly tired after a long day.
"When you and the Efreeti first came here, did you live on the island or in Watchtower Port?" asked Tassera.
"At first, we were all on the island to protect the Efreeti awakening the volcano," Leon said. "After we subdued the bronze dragon, no adventurers dared approach the island, and I mostly stayed in Watchtower Port."
"How do you plan to arrange my accommodation?" asked Tassera. "I’m a guest now, right?"
"I’ll find you an inn in Watchtower Port," said Leon. "You’re used to your human form, right?"
"I’m fine either way," said Tassera.
"Let’s go to Watchtower Port and stay at an inn," Leon glanced at Volcanic Island. There was nothing here yet, not even a decent cave, and he was also very accustomed to his human form, "I’ll stay there too. This place is a big construction site now."
Cecilia actually preferred her Dragon Form; she initially wanted to camp outdoors, coiled under some large tree in the forest would suffice, but hearing that Tassera and Leon were going to stay in an inn, she immediately stated, "I want to stay at the inn too."
"You’ll have to pay for your own accommodation..." said Leon. "You’re not a guest."
"I can afford a silver coin."
"A silver coin is probably not enough."
Leaving Volcanic Island and heading to Watchtower Port, Leon of course stayed at the most luxurious hotel. Now lying in bed, he thought about when his castle or villa on Volcanic Island would be finished, probably in a year or so...
With these thoughts in mind, Leon was ready to sleep when suddenly he heard the door open. He got up to see Tassera appearing in his room.
