Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon’s Might -
Chapter 113 Brother
Chapter 113: Chapter 113 Brother
Controlling Meenlocks and shapeshifters is no easy feat; naturally, there’s a dark force manipulating everything behind this incident.
Leon, new in town, was certainly not the target of this dark force; he was an innocent bystander caught in a conspiracy, but that’s another topic altogether.
On this moonless night, in a dark corner of the Primitive Forest, three towering monsters were the masterminds behind everything happening around the Elf Village.
"The shapeshifters haven’t come back; they’re all dead..." spoke a creature with the physique of an Ogre, but it definitely wasn’t an Ogre, as Ogres, with their legendary stupidity, could never plot any intrigues.
Amid the grating laughter, a filthy, disheveled monster stood out. It had a gaunt face, wrapped in tattered long hair, with scary black moles and tumors on its mottled skin, and its lengthy fingers ended in long, sharp claws.
"Sweetheart darling, it looks like your plan to sow discord has failed."
"Shut up." As if a large serpent reared its head from the darkness, hissing, "Your Meenlocks haven’t made even a tiny splash; what right do you have to criticize me?"
"Don’t argue, no infighting; it’s useless to squabble," said the creature with the Ogre physique, smilingly trying to mediate, "Let’s think about what to do next."
"I think, first of all, we need to figure out who that guy really is," hissed the monster with a serpentine head, as a crest popped up like a fish’s dorsal fin, "It’s not simple for one man to kill four Meenlocks."
"Little noodle is actually scared, come here, come here, Granny Poli will protect you," the disheveled monster cackled with laughter, "Four Meenlocks are just that; they’re not so tough to handle."
The disheveled monster looked venomously at "Little noodle." It was only natural for the two monsters, selfish and evil, to not get along. "Xiangxiang surely wants to spend a month figuring out that guy’s identity and then make a long-term plan... Granny Poli suggests that Xiangxiang should get close to that man."
"Little noodle," now "Xiangxiang," couldn’t care less, retorted, "You’re crazy. The shapeshifters went and didn’t come back, and you want me to take the risk?"
"The shapeshifters are useless fools; they only know how to transform and not to think, unless you admit you’re stupider than them," the disheveled monster continued, "Among the three of us, only you are good at turning into a young girl and you have a silver tongue; you’re a born liar."
The creature with the Ogre’s physique nodded, adding, "I agree with Granny Poli."
...
...
At the same moment, Leon was unaware that he was being watched by three monsters and, as usual, slept until broad daylight.
He had expected that after the shapeshifter incident, a series of troublesome issues would arise. His anxiety even caused several failures to enter a state of focus, and he ended up not practicing for the entire day. Little did he know, a week went by, and nothing had happened.
Of course, it was best that nothing happened, and Leon had no objections.
When in Dragon Form, Leon had to eat a lot every day. The more he moved, the more he ate; conversely, if he slept all day, not eating wouldn’t really matter.
By comparison, his human form ate much less, but had one disadvantage: if he missed a meal, he felt extremely hungry, unlike his Dragon Form where he could go without food for ten days or half a month without problems. As a result, upon waking, Leon wasn’t in a hurry to practice but instead headed into the forest to find something to eat.
During the peaceful time, with nothing much to do, Leon had learned a bit of archery—just at amateur level for entertainment. He used a bow and arrow to catch a rabbit, and just as he picked up the rabbit, he faintly heard a girl’s cry for help.
"Help."
"Who will save me?"
Leon looked in the direction the voice came from and saw two Worgs chasing a short-haired girl.
Without hesitation, Leon swiftly drew his bow and fired two arrows at the Worgs, scaring them off and leaving the short-haired girl alone.
Leon approached the short-haired girl and saw her slightly frowning, eyes brimming with tears, her clothes torn by thorns and branches, revealing plenty of skin, from her slender shoulders and barely concealed chest to her soft waist—all on display as she sat on the ground, hands covering her bleeding shin, looking vulnerable, pitiable, yet helpless and oddly provocative.
"Thank you, hero, for saving my life." The short-haired girl spoke, "I’m in your debt."
"Don’t mention it," Leon replied.
"Cecilia, my name is Cecilia." Cecilia tried to stand up with the support of her leg. She had just risen slightly when the pain from her injured leg made her sit back down, "What’s the hero’s name?"
"Leon," Leon said, "And don’t call me a hero; I just did a tiny bit of work."
"If not hero, then how about brother... How about that?" Cecilia looked up at Leon with hopeful eyes that were hard to refuse, stretching out her hand as she spoke, "Can brother lend a hand to his sister?"
Leon did not refuse Cecilia’s extended hand.
Cecilia, holding onto Leon’s hand, managed to stand up but then stumbled and clung tightly around Leon’s waist, nestling her face against his chest, she said, "Sister can’t walk anymore, can brother help sister out and be a real gentleman?"
"My house is just up ahead," Leon agreed with pleasure.
Leon supported the short-haired girl to his place, found a stool for her to sit on, and took care to bandage her calf.
"Do you live alone, brother?" Cecilia looked around and inquired.
"Alone," Leon replied, thinking to himself that it’s been a long time since the Pixie came to play; he wondered where it might have gone.
"Isn’t it lonely living alone?" Cecilia asked, "Can I stay here for a few days? I’ll keep you company until the wound on my foot heals, then I’ll leave."
The short-haired girl recounted her own experiences.
She wasn’t a weak villager but an adventurer. Only an adventurer could have managed to escape into the Primitive Forest alone after her adventuring party was defeated by monsters. Unfortunately, hungry and thirsty, with a leg injury, having lost her weapon, she ended up in a sorry state, chased miserably by two Worgs.
"You’re not an adventurer, are you?" Leon smiled faintly, "Which regular adventurer looks as beautiful as you do, without a single injury on them?"
Biting her lip gently, Cecilia took a deep breath and said, "Brother truly has Eyes of Golden Flame... Sister indeed is not an adventurer but a noble who fled from a faraway place. But please forgive me for not being able to disclose the specifics of what happened."
"If you don’t tell, you can’t stay," Leon said.
"Then sister will have to leave," Cecilia tried to stand up, took some effortful steps, and fell to the ground within a few paces. She got up and fell again, showing a tough demeanor.
"Alright, alright, you can stay," Leon said, "I’ll just not ask."
"Thank you, brother," Cecilia said earnestly, "I will help with chores... Even though I’m not good at it, but I will try my best. I’m no longer a pampered young lady now."
"Let it be," replied Leon, still feeling hungry, "I’ll go and handle the rabbit; you haven’t eaten anything yet, right?"
"Mm," Cecilia said, "Let me help."
"No rush to do tasks, get well first," Leon kindly advised.
Cecilia watched Leon’s retreating figure, a slight curve forming at the corner of her mouth, thinking to herself that she was getting close to her goal.
Leon went to handle the rabbit, but his thoughts were not on the rabbit; he marvelled at how a Green Dragon managed to pull off such a clichéd damsel-in-distress rescue... Anyway, those few "brother" calls really melted his heart.
Speaking of which, a Green Dragon that hadn’t even reached adulthood could use transformation magic – since when did transformation magic become so pedestrian? Eggon, a mature Brass Dragon, should have no issues, and Tassera, as a Storage Dragon, should be fine too, but now even a youthful Green Dragon has learned it.
Stealing a glance at Cecilia, Leon idly wondered why Tassera’s human form was so lithe, while the Green Dragon’s human form was quite scrawny, with barely any need for breasts at all; was there any particular reason for this? If she wanted to deceive him, shouldn’t she have transformed into a stunning beauty with a busty figure and long legs?
Leon felt his focus was somewhat odd; the real point of concern should be whether this Green Dragon was the initiator of everything.
Considering the events he had encountered... those series of actions indeed matched the style of Green Dragons.
Green Dragons are cunning deceivers and master illusionists who prefer not to kill all their enemies, instead opting to terrify and manipulate survivors. If someone had no value for their use, they would eagerly attack, seeking treasure on the one hand and proving their strength on the other.
Moreover, Green Dragons have a fondness for forests; the older the forest and the larger the trees, the better. They consume thickets and saplings, but their favorite prey has always been Elves.
With these thoughts, Leon suddenly frowned; he realized he had been dealing with Dragons quite often of late.
After all, this was a world based on D&D, with the Chinese name being Dragon and Dungeon; Colorful Dragons, Metal Dragons, Gemstone Dragons... Dragons of various environments abound, dozens and dozens of types, including Dragonborn. It was common to see dragons everywhere; it would have been strange not to encounter them.
