Chapter 190: Chapter 190: Goddamn Core Stability
Li Juezhou said he had to start work at nine, leaving him less than four hours of free time.
Following the principle of accommodating others when asking for their help, Sang Ning let Li Juezhou decide the breakfast meeting spot himself.
She considered countless potential breakfast venues: KFC, noodle houses, porridge shops, street stalls...
But she never imagined it would be at a park!
After jogging five laps around the park with Li Juezhou, Sang Ning couldn’t bear it anymore. She gradually slowed down, hands on her hips, and came to a stop.
She looked up at the sky, then at the figure still jogging ahead. Her lips twitched uncontrollably as her face twisted into an expression verging on collapse.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Li Juezhou had stopped running and turned back to look at her.
He saw Sang Ning cocking her head slightly, staring at him with bewilderment written all over her face.
Li Juezhou walked back toward Sang Ning, equally puzzled. "What’s wrong? Didn’t we agree to run 15 laps around the park? Why stop after just five?"
Sang Ning licked the tip of her tongue and clenched her molars. "I’m worried if we keep running, the flowerpot in your hands might accidentally fall and smash into your foot."
She felt a strong urge to travel back in time and slap herself half an hour ago.
Half an hour ago, she had arrived at the address Li Juezhou gave her, right on time, expecting it to be a proper breakfast spot.
Instead, she realized it was actually the entrance to a park. Li Juezhou was already there ahead of her, dressed in black casual sportswear and holding a flowerpot — a sight too strange for words.
Sang Ning had just walked up, about to ask him what he felt like eating, when he beat her to it: "Do you have any hobbies?"
"Huh?" Sang Ning froze instantly, giving him a blank stare. Then she glanced at the park behind him and answered casually, "Does jogging count?"
Sang Ning thought this was just a random icebreaker from him to avoid an awkward silence and expected him to suggest where to get breakfast next.
But to her surprise, when she finished answering, Li Juezhou’s eyes lit up slightly, and he cheerfully proposed, "How about we jog 15 laps around the park first before eating breakfast?"
"..."
Sang Ning pursed her lips, released them, and repeated the action several times before finally gathering her mental composure. She forced a smile and answered hesitantly, "Sure, it’s still quite early after all. Not many breakfast places may be open yet."
Sang Ning began her warm-up exercises for jogging, while Li Juezhou set down the flowerpot and joined her in warming up.
Up until this point, everything seemed perfectly normal.
But as soon as the running started, Li Juezhou bent down to pick up the flowerpot—at that moment, Sang Ning felt like she was about to crack wide open. "What are you doing? Why are you bringing the flowerpot with you while jogging?"
Her tone was nothing short of shock.
As for Li Juezhou, he adeptly scooped up the flowerpot and started running, his motions smooth and fluid, almost disturbingly graceful and oddly pleasant to watch.
Faced with Sang Ning’s astonishment, he replied with a faint smile, deadpan and serious: "If I don’t take it along, it might get stolen after 15 laps of jogging."
Sang Ning felt his reasoning made sense, but at the same time, something about the whole situation felt inherently wrong. If he was worried about the flower being stolen, then why insist on jogging?
Was Li Juezhou dead set on completing those 15 laps?
As it turned out, yes, he was. He had an uncompromising determination, clutching the flowerpot as he dashed into the park.
Sang Ning’s primary focus was simply on being a companion. Despite her reluctance, she followed closely behind Li Juezhou.
At first, she managed to endure. But later, as more elderly folks began arriving for their morning exercise, things took a turn.
Every single grandpa and grandma she passed stared at Li Juezhou holding a flowerpot while jogging. None could resist pausing to gawk at the two of them as if they were some kind of spectacle.
Sang Ning admitted she didn’t have Li Juezhou’s steely mental fortitude, the ability to calmly endure the accusatory stares that seemed to question their sanity. That was why, after five laps, she desperately looked for an excuse to stop.
However, Li Juezhou just couldn’t grasp her inner turmoil. After Sang Ning expressed her concerns about the potential risk of jogging while carrying a flowerpot, he merely smiled lightly and reassured her, "Don’t worry. My core strength is rock solid. Even with another 25 laps, there won’t be any accidents."
What the hell does "rock solid core strength" have to do with anything?! Sang Ning entirely abandoned any effort to manage her expressions. With her face now hanging in lifeless dejection like an emotionless AI, she replied stiffly, "But I’m hungry. Can we grab breakfast first?"
This time, Li Juezhou agreed readily, even looking slightly remorseful and apologetic: "I’m sorry, my planning was inconsiderate. 15 laps was too much; five laps is perfect."
"..."
Sang Ning merely nodded perfunctorily, unable to muster up any more words to respond to Li Juezhou.
Apparently, he didn’t even see running with a flowerpot as an odd thing. Fine, fine — as long as he’s happy!
Sang Ning assumed that since Li Juezhou had invited her to meet at the park, he must already have a breakfast place in mind.
But to her surprise, not only had he not decided, he threw the problem back to her.
This left Sang Ning unsure whether jogging was truly her favorite activity or not, but she was certain of one thing: Li Juezhou must absolutely love jogging!
Not knowing where to take him for breakfast, Sang Ning turned to social media for suggestions and eventually settled on a well-known nearby Fly Rice Noodle Restaurant.
Though she had invited him for breakfast, the entire meal cost Sang Ning less than forty yuan.
Li Juezhou seemed genuinely happy with the meal, but Sang Ning couldn’t shake a small sense of stinginess. After all, he had gifted her a flowerpot for free.
To avoid giving Li Juezhou the impression that she was too miserly, before they parted ways, she proactively suggested this breakfast wouldn’t count. Next time, when they both had more time, she would treat him to a proper feast.
After taking the flowerpot from Li Juezhou, Sang Ning went to the supermarket and bought some household items, planning to visit the school later and use this chance to apologize and make peace with the gatekeeper grandpa. She also prepared to bring some supplies for her brother, Sang Chuan.
She worried that once things got busy, she might neglect her easygoing little brother.
Timing her visit to coincide with the students’ class hours, Sang Ning arrived at the school. Predictably, as soon as the gatekeeper saw her, he was ready to explode.
Fortunately, she had come prepared. She quickly held up the flowerpot Li Juezhou had given her and smiled warmly: "Grandpa, I’m here representing my brother Sang Chuan to apologize. This small token of flowers is for you—hoping you’ll let bygones be bygones and reconcile with Sang Chuan."
Sang Ning felt nervous, unsure whether offering flowers could heal the old man’s grudge against Sang Chuan. After all, Sang Chuan’s misdeeds weren’t few.
Luckily, her sincerity seemed to work. Grandpa gradually lowered his broom, his expression softening noticeably: "Where did you get this flower?"
The old man’s face showed undisguised shock as he spoke, but Sang Ning took his reaction for excitement at seeing a prized flower. Smiling, she replied, "A friend gave it to me."
Grandpa remained silent for a long time before finally collecting his expression; yet, internally, he was utterly flabbergasted.
What kind of friend is this generous? Giving away a Purple Light Red flower valued at 700,000 yuan just like that!
