Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Don’t Want to See Her Disgraced
After Gao Mingsong added Sang Ning on WeChat, he helped Wang Meng ask a question.
The message sent back was a voice recording: [Mr. Gao, it might not be very convenient.]
Wang Meng looked a little disappointed, sighed, and turned to leave. But just as he turned, he heard Sang Ning’s voice recording behind him: [But since you’re teachers from Shuixi, there’s nothing inconvenient about it. That little brat Sang Chuan will be counting on you all in the future, so please take extra care of him.]
Wang Meng’s eyes suddenly lit up. He immediately opened WeChat and rushed over: "Director Gao, quickly share Sang Chuan’s sister’s WeChat with me!"
"Me too, me too!"
"And me, and me!"
The office instantly turned into a frenzy as everyone scrambled to add Sang Ning on WeChat.
On the other side, Sang Ning’s WeChat kept blowing up with notifications. She opened it to find a flood of friend requests from teachers at Shuixi First Middle School.
Her head was spinning. Wasn’t it just supposed to be Wang Meng who wanted to add her? How did this suddenly turn into a parade of friend requests?
Sigh~ If she had known this would happen, she wouldn’t have agreed. Now it’s hard to refuse.
One by one, Sang Ning accepted the requests, adding notes with each teacher’s name and creating a group labeled "Sang Chuan’s Teachers."
Sang Chuan heard her phone chiming endlessly and poked his head over. He saw Sang Ning adding the teachers on WeChat.
Thinking back to what happened earlier, Sang Chuan asked in confusion, "Sis, why were you being so modest in front of Old Gao just now? It was clearly your hard work; why didn’t you own it?"
"It’s more important to ensure you can re-enroll than to argue with Mr. Gao about credits," Sang Ning patted Sang Chuan’s shoulder and said earnestly, "Why were mouths made? For talking, right? A few nice words can smooth things over and make Old Gao overlook your re-enrollment issues. Isn’t that better?"
Sang Chuan sniffled, feeling like his eyes were about to tear up. Bashfully, he mumbled, "Sis, you’re really good to me~"
His sister, so cool and proud, wouldn’t be putting up with Old Gao’s nonsense if it weren’t for him.
Sang Ning wasn’t one for sentimental moments. Seeing Sang Chuan act more bashful than a young lady, she couldn’t help but want to smack him: "Alright, cut the nonsense. Studying is the real deal. Hurry back home, pack your things, and get ready for school registration."
Just like that, the wave of emotion Sang Chuan had painstakingly built was obliterated. As Sang Ning turned away, he quietly curled his lips and rolled his eyes.
Seriously, was his sister allergic to sentimentality or what?
"Hey! What are you two doing here? How did you even get in?"
A figure suddenly emerged ahead, yelling at the siblings.
Sang Ning froze for a moment and realized it was the security guard. Without saying a word, she grabbed Sang Chuan and bolted.
What bad luck! She had just finished handling Sang Chuan’s paperwork and hadn’t even reached the security booth yet. Running into the guard already? Ugh, talk about persistent bad karma.
To ditch the security guard, Sang Ning and Sang Chuan darted towards the back field and climbed over the wall.
Sang Ning’s approach to re-enrollment was practically a special forces mission. After taking Sang Chuan home, she gave him only half an hour to pack his luggage.
Half an hour later, the siblings left for the school with their bags in tow.
After two rounds of being chased off by the security guard, Sang Ning decided to forgo the main gate entirely. She and Sang Chuan headed straight to the back field.
Once Sang Chuan climbed over, Sang Ning threw his bag over the wall and gave him instructions from the other side: "I’ll probably be really busy later, so try not to contact me unless it’s urgent. I’ll figure out how to transfer your living expenses regularly."
Her sudden farewell caught Sang Chuan off guard. He stood frozen, calling out for her several times through the wall, but got no response.
He hurriedly jogged to the left side where a row of iron railings allowed him to see outside.
Standing by the railings, Sang Chuan could see his sister’s departing figure.
Clutching the railing with his left hand, he stretched his right hand through the bars, yelling desperately at her retreating figure, "Sis, are you seriously leaving like this? Are you abandoning your own little brother to fend for himself?"
Hearing this, Sang Ning paused, turning back to look at him. Why did he look so pitiful, clinging to the railing and shouting like someone in prison?
Sang Ning walked back to stand beside him and stopped: "Actually, what you just yelled reminded me of something."
With their parents away studying and his older sister returning to the entertainment industry to carve out her career, Sang Chuan felt the sting of loneliness for the first time. He looked at her with hopeful eyes, wishing she’d say something comforting.
Suddenly, Sang Ning extended her right hand toward him: "Give me your phone."
Though clueless, Sang Chuan obediently pulled his phone out of his pants pocket and handed it to her.
"Your senior year is critical. To prevent you from getting distracted by the internet, I’m confiscating your phone. After the college entrance exam, I’ll buy you a new one," Sang Ning said seriously as she took the phone.
Sang Chuan felt utterly numb. Was his sister even human?
No comforting words about their parting, and now she was taking away his phone!
"Sis, if you take my phone, how am I supposed to contact you in the future?" Sang Chuan protested furiously.
Sang Ning glanced at him lightly and said, "Then hold out your left hand."
Clinging to one last hope, Sang Chuan stretched out his left hand, hoping for an encouraging handshake.
He watched expectantly as she extended her hand—only for things to take a surprising turn.
From seemingly nowhere, Sang Ning pulled out a peculiar blue wristwatch and fastened it onto his wrist.
Bewildered, Sang Chuan looked up at her, only to see Sang Ning breaking into a smile: "I dug up this kid’s smart watch from home while you were packing your things."
All traces of his faint smile froze at the corners of his lips. He stared at her in disbelief, numb and dazed.
She raised her right hand, made a gesture like a phone call, and held it to her ear as her grin deepened: "No matter where you are, one call and I can find you. A kid’s smart watch lets us stay connected anytime! Remember, if you miss me, just dial up the kid’s smart watch—a phone watch for children!"
Sang Ning’s singing and sales pitch shattered any last desire Sang Chuan had for his sister’s affection.
Expressionless, he robotically raised his right hand and waved: "Safe travels. I won’t see you off."
Mortified, Sang Chuan desperately wished he could cut ties with his sister for at least one second.
Afraid someone might walk by, Sang Chuan rushed back to the base of the wall, grabbed his luggage, and darted away.
He couldn’t bear to lose face with her anymore!
Watching her younger brother fleeing as if his life depended on it, Sang Ning couldn’t help but smile, her lips curving so much she nearly couldn’t rein them in.
Finally, another matter off her plate.
She pulled out her phone and sent Gao Mingsong a message: [Mr. Gao, Sang Chuan has officially returned to school. I’ll leave his future in your capable hands.]
