Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Chef Qin Takes Charge Alone for the First Time

Qin Guanglin returned home in a cheerful mood, but as soon as he opened the door, he heard the conversation in the living room.

As he entered, the two people inside fell silent, turning their heads to look at him.

"Aunt," Qin Guanglin recognized the person sitting on the sofa talking to his mom and greeted her coldly.

Relatives from his father’s side rarely visited, mostly showing up during holidays and seldom contacting on regular days.

It was the same with this aunt; they met maybe once or twice a year, and he had no clue what had brought her this time.

"Ah, Guanglin’s back," the woman he called aunt responded.

"Had dinner?" Qin’s Mom asked.

"Yeah," he replied and walked straight into his bedroom, closing the door.

"I picked up a package for you, it’s on your desk," Qin’s Mom raised her voice toward the bedroom.

"Got it."

"This kid," the aunt muttered, "doesn’t resemble my brother at all."

"He resembles him quite a bit," Qin’s Mom glanced at her, "it’s just that sometimes he’s not talkative."

"Sometimes? He’s always like this every time I see him."

"Hehe."

Qin’s Mom chuckled, "Maybe he just happens not to want to talk every time."

...

Bedroom.

Qin Guanglin picked up the package on his desk, it was the fruit candy he had ordered earlier; it had arrived quite quickly.

He went to his bed, opened his backpack to organize it, hanging up clothes that needed hanging, and setting aside those to be washed, planning to throw them in the washing machine later. After all that, he lay down on the bed and let out a sigh.

After a thought, he got up from the bed, unwrapped the package, took out his phone, and sent He Fang a photo.

Forest: "I bought some candy, come have some when you’re free."

Lost and waiting to return: "Next time you come here, stash some in your pocket for me."

Forest: "My pocket has a hole, come eat by yourself."

...

Luo City University, dormitory.

He Fang laughed at Qin Guanglin’s message, rolling out of bed, she grabbed a handful of candy and snapped a photo to send back to him.

Lost and waiting to return: "I have my own, don’t need yours."

"Chatting with your boyfriend again?" Zhou Nan, who had just returned to the dorm, rolled her eyes at her, "You’ve been out for nearly a week, haven’t had enough of him?"

"Look at you, all sour, have some candy," He Fang tossed a candy to her.

"I’m not sour, what’s so great about stinky men." Zhou Nan caught the candy and put it in her mouth, her cheeks puffing out, "Anyway, I’ll be out of sight, out of mind by next week, starting my job."

"You found a job?" He Fang was surprised.

"Yeah, passed the interview and I start next week, and I’ll move into the company dorm too," Zhou Nan smiled proudly, her expression going soft in the next moment, "We’re going to be separated, I’ll kind of miss you guys."

"It’s still Luo City, what’s there to miss," He Fang said while texting on her phone, "Just hit me up if you miss me, we can hang out and have fun."

"Yeah right, if you’re with your boyfriend and I pull you away, he’ll hate me to death."

He Fang looked at her phone and chuckled, "You couldn’t drag it away when we were together."

"Dog lovers."

Zhou Nan snorted, "Once I get my paycheck, I’m going to rent my own place, plant some flowers and grass, get a cat, and live my own little life without anyone bothering me."

"You just live with your cat then." He Fang looked down and pressed her phone a few more times before putting it aside, then looked up and asked, "What kind of job did you find?"

"Copy editor, a small company." Zhou Nan took out her phone to show her, "It’s hard to find a job related to my major, this one barely fits the bill, I’ll just do it for now to gain some experience."

"That’s great, I’ll throw you a celebration party in a few days."

"And you? I haven’t even seen you look for a job, is your boyfriend supporting you?" Zhou Nan asked with a smile, "Even Yunyun has been getting anxious these days, checking job listings every day, and only you are still so carefree."

With less than a month until they couldn’t stay on campus anymore, what had felt like plenty of time suddenly seemed urgent as June began, and everyone panicked, everyone except He Fang, who hadn’t even looked for a job, and spent her days either attending classes she was interested in or writing novels at her desk.

"I already have it all planned out, no rush." He Fang looked confident, "The job will always be there, I’ll start working when I feel like it."

"Alright then, you focus on writing your novel, and sign a copy for me when you become a famous author."

Zhou Nan lay lazily on the bed, seeing that He Fang was back to chatting on her phone, she didn’t engage further, sucked on a piece of candy twice, and stared at the ceiling, pondering her own matters.

I wonder what kind of boyfriend I’ll end up with.

Summer nights always came late, at six in the evening it was still light out, and only at around seven or eight did night begin to fall.

Having spent the afternoon in his room, Qin Guanglin guessed his mom might be starting to cook soon, so he got up from the bed and went to the kitchen, sure enough, Qin’s Mom was picking vegetables.

"Let me help you." Qin Guanglin rolled up his non-existent sleeves, pulled over a stool, and started to help pick the vegetables.

He had already helped a few times before, and was now somewhat skilled, at least he wasn’t breaking off the edible parts of the stalks and throwing them away, only leaving the leaves.

"Aunt Qin can cook now?" aunt leaned against the kitchen doorframe from the living room and exclaimed, her voice slightly exaggerated.

Hearing this, Qin Guanglin frowned and casually grunted in response.

"A big man learning to cook is disgraceful, let women handle cooking, otherwise people will look down on you..."

"Then why don’t you cook?" Qin Guanglin said impatiently, cutting her off.

"Err... your sister-in-law is a good cook." Aunt turned and went back to sit on the couch, "You wouldn’t like it if I cooked."

"Such nonsense." Qin Guanglin muttered under his breath, then asked Qin’s Mom, "Why is she here?"

"She came to see a doctor and is staying over for a few days." Qin’s Mom glanced outside, "Stop it, she’s your aunt, don’t be disrespectful, we don’t want to be ridiculed."

"She’s staying for a few days?!" Qin Guanglin was reluctant, "How about I pay for a hotel for her?"

"Never mind that." Qin’s Mom softly chuckled, then paused, looked outside, and gestured to Qin Guanglin, "You’ll cook in a bit."

"Cough..."

Qin Guanglin coughed lightly, suppressing a smile, and agreed, "Fine, I’ll do the cooking these next few days."

Aunt sat on the sofa, snacking on sunflower seeds and watching TV, not hearing the conversation between mother and son in the kitchen, waiting for dinner; soon, Qin’s Mom came out and sat down beside her to watch as well.

"Dinner’s ready? That was fast?" She sat up and looked toward the kitchen.

"No, he’s about to start cooking."

"He?" Aunt was startled, "Qin Guanglin is cooking?"

"Yes."

Qin’s Mom’s face lit up with a pleased smile, "This boy is so filial, insisting on cooking to save me the trouble, and he’s learning fast too."

After a pause, she turned to look at aunt, "Of course, he’s definitely not as good as your Ting, boys just aren’t as meticulous as girls."

"Ah, haha." Aunt laughed awkwardly, "That’s alright, that girl is a bit lazy, doesn’t cook much."
