Chapter 311: Chapter 304: Let the Bullets Fly for a While
Qin Guanglin solved dinner on his own.
Or rather, one and a half people did.
He Fang had made too many pancakes at noon, and they hadn’t finished them, so in the evening he found a spring onion in the refrigerator, peeled off its outer layer, wrapped it in a pancake with a sprinkle of fine salt and a drizzle of sesame oil, took a bite...
Delicious.
After chewing a few times and swallowing, Qin Guanglin couldn’t help but heave a long sigh, casually wiped his fingertips with a tissue in his left hand, and took out his phone to send a picture to He Fang.
"This pancake wrapped with spring onion is so tasty!"
He Fang was sitting in McDonald’s eating fries with Gu Xiaoqing when she saw the message from Qin Guanglin, a smile couldn’t help but appear on her face. After thinking for a moment, she too took a picture of the food on the table and sent it over.
"I’m at McDonald’s, can you get full on that? If not enough, I’ll bring you back a burger."
"I’m full, let’s make a few more tomorrow, this thing is insanely fragrant."
Qin Guanglin crunched on the spring onion and exchanged a few messages with He Fang before standing up with his pancake and heading to the balcony.
The night sky was darkening.
Outside, the pagoda trees were lush with branches and leaves, rustling softly in the breeze, with several residents lounging underneath.
It really was a good place to cool off.
After finishing the pancake and nearly choking, he downed a big glass of water, sat down on the sofa to watch some TV for a while, and He Fang was back.
"Do you want to go for a stroll downstairs?" Qin Guanglin gestured outside, "It’s quite cool, much better than walking around South Fly Road."
"I’ve been walking all afternoon, let’s rest."
He Fang sat down on the sofa and massaged her feet, asking, "Did you eat enough?"
"I’m stuffed."
Two pancakes had left him seventy percent full, and some water to swell it up made it ninety percent.
Qin Guanglin patted his stomach, stood up, and twisted his way into the studio. When he came back out, he was holding a painting.
"Ta-da! How about this?"
He waved the painting with pride and raised an eyebrow at He Fang.
On the painting were three figures from the back, two adults and one child, the little guy with long hair trailing down her back, just like He Fang’s. She stood in front of a mirror leaning over with an enamel mug in one hand and a toothbrush in the other.
He Fang slowed her foot massage and stared at the painting for a couple of seconds before saying, "Bring it here, closer, let me have a look."
"See, the slippers are also downsized from yours, the hair... she has to grow her hair long in the future. Those stand-up braids are too tacky, long like yours is perfect."
Qin Guanglin moved closer, laid the painting flat on the coffee table, and began explaining the details to her.
"It could be posted online as an Easter egg to get them excited about our daughter being born. If we do have a daughter later, just like you said, I could release a second part of my comic—called ’My Daughter is so Cute!’ I’m really a genius..."
The genius Qin Guanglin rattled on, getting excited and then grabbing He Fang’s foot to massage it, "Let me confirm again, you saying we’ll have a daughter is for real, right? Don’t raise the fans’ hopes and then have a stinky little boy pop out..."
"It’s real, really."
He Fang reflexively tried to withdraw her foot but couldn’t pull it free, bit her lip, and closely inspected the painting for a moment, "Buy a frame for it and mount it."
"Mount it and put it where?"
"Put it on the desk in that room." She pointed to the guest bedroom and pushed Qin Guanglin, "Go look, see if there’s another frame that size."
"Oh..."
Qin Guanglin scampered to the study and rummaged through a box of miscellaneous items behind the desk for a while, found a frame of the right size, mounted the painting carefully, examined it, and placed it on the desk in the guest bedroom.
Hmm... she hasn’t even been born, and she already has her painting. What a lucky little girl.
"Honey."
"Hmm?"
"Do you know, while I was out shopping with Xiaoqing today, she said she’s a believer in being single..."
He Fang called Qin Guanglin back to the sofa, crossed her legs, and turned to him as she rattled off everything that had happened that day, including repeating verbatim what Gu Xiaoqing had said.
"What do you think?" she asked, looking at Qin Guanglin.
Qin Guanglin had been listening to it as if it were a story, expressing amazement, but at her question, he was momentarily confused, "What do I think of what?"
"What do you think of what she said?"
"Makes a lot of sense... but what’s it got to do with us?" Qin Guanglin shrugged his shoulders, "I can guarantee happiness for our child, let her experience the world... how do they put it? Take her on a wonderful life journey, to feel happiness and joy..."
"Happiness isn’t just about money, there’s a lot more to it, like Gu Xiaoqing. I think... personally, I suspect that her way of thinking might be influenced by her family..."
"Then we don’t need to worry about that much."
Qin Guanglin interrupted, "You and me, our relationship is so strong, what kind of influence can we give our child? Only a happy one, there’s no need to consider anything else, just focus on having the baby."
"...I never said I wouldn’t have it!"
He Fang, irritated, kicked out at him, "Go on, get out of the way, you’re blocking my view of the TV."
"You’re lying there saying I’m blocking you... Fine, you watch. I’ll go and paint for a bit. Have you done your lesson plans? Haven’t seen you touch them these last couple of days."
"You do them for me."
"..."
...
Moving house on the weekend felt like it was all for nothing; without a chance to properly rest, Monday had already arrived.
After moving to the new house, He Fang no longer needed a ride to work, she could walk to school. So they set the alarm twenty minutes later and could enjoy half an hour more in bed than usual, which was another benefit of the new home.
"I’ll walk you there."
"It’s so close, just go to work."
"Then be careful on your way."
Qin Guanglin offered to walk her part of the way, but she refused. It was only a few minutes, but reversing and turning the car was a hassle and walking would be faster.
Walking the morning path, He Fang gazed through the tree branches on the roadside, watching the rays of sunlight trickle down through the gaps, finally feeling a sense of familiarity.
She had walked this road countless times.
Watching He Fang’s figure getting smaller and smaller in the rear-view mirror until she disappeared around a corner, Qin Guanglin started the car and headed towards the company.
"I need you~ by my side
I need you~ to comb my hair
The night breeze blows~
Makes my heart itch~
Oh, my lover~"
The familiar tune played in the car as he hummed along softly to the beat, driving with a pleasant mood on the road.
About He Fang’s magical aspect, Qin Guanglin had mostly figured it out and gradually accepted it, aside from occasionally imagining some particularly incredible things. During his time with He Fang, he didn’t feel anything particularly special.
If he had to point out something special, it was that she, like Zhao Yazhi... oops, like Lady Bai, was beautiful and intelligent, gentle and demure, truly a man’s dream.
If there were any bald monks daring to jabber behind him, he would show them the fruits of his training over the last two years.
"Looking pretty cheerful, come across some good news?"
Chen Rui saw him humming as he entered the office and teased him casually.
"Moved into a new place yesterday, had a good sleep."
Qin Guanglin plopped down into the chair, pulling out his latest work from his bag, "Here, manuscript handed in... You don’t seem like a boss now, more like a nagging editor."
"If you were as prolific as a sow, I wouldn’t mind being your editor," Chen Rui said as he placed a computer on Qin Guanglin’s desk, excitedly pointing at the data on screen for him to look at, "See this? From April to now, in just over three months, our latest issue has nearly two hundred thousand views, with over a hundred thousand active readers following your updates!"
"I already have over fifty thousand followers," Qin Guanglin said nonchalantly, "Those view counts are all 100k+. What’s special about that?"
"It’s different. A public account is something you click on impulsively and people might view several times. This... forget it, you wouldn’t understand anyway."
Chen Rui waved his hand dismissively like it was futile to explain.
Qin Guanglin couldn’t be bothered to listen to him talk about it; after all, they were two peas in a pod, and he was bound to give it his all.
As Chen Rui moved the computer back, Qin Guanglin suddenly remembered something and asked, "By the way, what about those pirates? Weren’t you going to take action against piracy?"
"Don’t worry about the pirates, we’ll deal with them in a couple of months," Chen Rui responded with a confident look, giving him a knowing smile.
"Let the bullets fly a little longer."
