Chapter 293: Chapter 288: Neat and Tidy

Creak.

The door to the room sounded.

He Fang, dressed neatly, emerged from the house and immediately saw He’s Daddy staring intently in this direction.

"Dad, what are you doing?"

"Nothing."

He’s Daddy waited a moment, not seeing anyone else come out behind her, and inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief.

Just as I thought... It was just a dream, how could it be real.

He cheerfully stood up, swinging his arms to stretch on the balcony, doing his daily morning exercise, and looking back he asked, "Why are you up so early?"

"I couldn’t sleep, so I got up to see if there was breakfast."

He Fang took a lap around the house and didn’t see Qin Guanglin, figuring he had gone out to buy breakfast, then lazily went back to her room to lie down again.

About half an hour later, Qin Guanglin and He Shan came back, laughing and carrying breakfast.

"Dad, breakfast is ready."

He Shan called out, rubbing his head as he pulled out a portion from the bag, and said to Qin Guanglin, "Drinking too much really gives me a headache... I’m going in first."

"Oh."

Qin Guanglin, looking at his pained expression, felt a bit of a headache himself, and seeing He’s Daddy come in from the balcony, greeted him, "Uncle, please eat first. I’ll see if He Fang is awake."

Knock knock knock.

The door was knocked, and in no time He Fang had opened the door and was standing in front of him, "Did you get the breakfast?"

"Yeah, go eat."

"He didn’t notice, did he?" He Fang looked at the silhouette of He’s Daddy in the living room and made a mouthing gesture to Qin Guanglin.

Qin Guanglin shook his head, and when he saw He’s Daddy looking over, he didn’t linger in front of He Fang’s door anymore and casually went to eat breakfast.

Staying overnight at the girlfriend’s house secretly was too thrilling.

"How did you and He Shan come back together?" He’s Daddy suddenly realized something was fishy.

"We ran into each other on the road, just a coincidence," Qin Guanglin managed to deceive the old man without changing his expression.

There was no choice but to deceive. Going to sleep without getting married made a terrible impression...

After breakfast and a short while, He Cheng and Zhao Qing didn’t get up and wash until later, and if it weren’t for Qin Guanglin not returning home last night, He Fang would have probably gotten up late too—the most diligent in the household were the men, the rest were all lazybones.

"Let’s go, take a walk downstairs, and I’ll show you around He City," He Fang said to Qin Guanglin, who seemed to have nothing to do, leading him out of the house before He’s Daddy could pull him into a game of chess.

Qin Guanglin had been to He City more than once, and each time something unexpected happened so he never properly wandered around until today, when he drove He Fang through the streets of He City.

"That’s my old elementary school over there. When I was little, I’d walk from home every day with a big backpack on my back; it took about twenty minutes."

"You sure had short legs when you were young."

"..."

Qin Guanglin, completely oblivious to He Fang’s annoyed expression, slowly looked around, "Is the river over there frozen?"

"Want to go for a skate?"

"No, look, there are people cutting ice. Are they trying to fish? ... It looks really dangerous."

"It is very dangerous. I had a classmate who was playing on the ice and fell through. It happened right up there, not far ahead. Luckily, someone pulled him out, and after that, we never dared to play on the frozen river anymore."

"That would be freezing to death... Lucky for me I can’t swim."

"Lucky because you can’t?"

"Can’t swim, so I stay far from the water’s edge."

Qin Guanglin watched the fishing man chiseling ice on the river surface for a while, fearing a large hole might open and someone could fall through, but thankfully the accident he imagined didn’t happen.

The He Family had guests at noon, so He Fang didn’t take Qin Guanglin back home. Instead, they found a place to eat casually, and satiated, they returned to the hotel to rest. They had booked the room for several days and since they hadn’t used it the first night, it seemed a waste not to lounge for a while.

"I’m jinxed when it comes to He City," Qin Guanglin declared with conviction.

"Why?"

"The first time I came, I had no place to stay and had to squeeze in with your dad for the night. The second time I actually booked a room, but didn’t stay for a night; I was laid up in the hospital."

The more Qin Guanglin thought about it, the more he felt like he didn’t mesh well with He City, "When I came yesterday, I’d booked a room again, but still didn’t end up staying. I drank too much and holed up in your room all night, almost got caught by your dad..."

"It does seem that way," He Fang counted on her fingers as she thought, "I’ve come here three times, twice I didn’t properly sleep in the room I booked, and the one time I didn’t stay in He City for long, just two or three days before going back..."

"Staying here tonight? Help me ward off some bad luck."

"Don’t even think about it, sneaking out to meet a man during the New Year, what would my brother think of me? What about my sister-in-law? How would Cheng... don’t move..."

...

On the seventh and eighth days, Qin Guanglin and He Fang spent two days wandering around He City. They ate local He City flavors He Fang wanted to share with him for lunch and went back to the He Family in the evening to help cook dinner.

"Guanglin, did you draw all of these?"

On the afternoon of the ninth day, after He’s Daddy dominated multiple games of chess and put away the chessboard, he took out his phone and questioned Qin Guanglin.

"Yeah, isn’t this me? and this is He Fang," Qin Guanglin pointed to the comic characters on the official account, which were drawn based on their faces, and could be easily recognized even with some added anime effects.

"That’s really nice..." He’s Daddy rubbed his thighs and hesitated to say more.

"Right, I also want to draw a few issues about things over here... but I’m afraid you guys might mind."

As soon as Qin Guanglin broached the subject, he instantly scratched He’s Daddy’s itch. The old man quickly nodded and said, "We don’t mind, just draw, it’s good if you draw."

"Great, then I’ll draw them when I get back and post them, and you’ll be able to see it on your phone then."

Seeing the excitement on He’s Daddy’s face made Qin Guanglin a bit thrilled too. He had wanted to draw them for a long time but his interactions with Qin’s Mom and He Fang weren’t enough; he needed to capture the process of meeting his father-in-law too.

A family should be complete and united.

"Hmm... there doesn’t seem to be much to draw here." He’s Daddy thought it over and felt that there wasn’t as much interesting content to draw as what Qin Guanglin had already done, which made him feel a bit disappointed.

"Leave it to me," Qin Guanglin patted his chest confidently.

He could sketch out several issues whether it was the first time staying overnight, playing chess, or the times He Fang helped him beat He’s Daddy.

He could also draw the scene where he entered the He Family’s home holding a grass carp, meeting everyone eye-to-eye; there was no shortage of material.

As long as the drawings were fun, that was what mattered.

"Fine, you’re the professional, I’ll just look forward to it."

The old man thought he seemed reliable and was filled with anticipation, barely resisting the urge to grab a drink to toast with him.

"We’ll drink with dinner, let’s drink with dinner."

Qin Guanglin was truly apprehensive of He’s Daddy’s drinking capacity. Seeing that it was about time to start dinner, he got up to join He Fang in the kitchen, ready to showcase his cooking skills.

When they were on Green Island, he looked up a list of a hundred things for couples to do together, which included making a big meal for both of their parents. He hadn’t forgotten.

He had already done it countless times with Qin’s Mom, completing that task long ago, but at the He Family, they had only helped a bit. Qin Guanglin and He Fang decided to cook a meal tonight, then return to Luo City tomorrow; this year’s New Year celebration would be pleasantly concluded.

"I’ve seen the photos of you cooking that Fang frequently posts, today I finally get to taste it," Zhao Qing came in for a visit and teased Qin Guanglin.

"Just wait to eat, sister-in-law, you’re affecting his performance."

He Fang pushed Zhao Qing out of the kitchen and took the opportunity to shut the door behind her.

"Can you handle it?" she asked.

"A man can’t say he can’t handle it." Qin Guanglin was brimming with confidence, rolled up his sleeves, and prepared to start cooking. "You take care of the meat, I’ll fry the vegetables."

"..."

"Right, I can make twice-cooked pork, leave the twice-cooked pork to me."

Not wanting to lose face in front of the He Family, Qin Guanglin let He Fang take care of the main dishes while he helped out with the rest and took the chance to learn some cooking skills.

By the time the food was on the table, before he could even say a word, He Shan was already guessing which dish was made by He Fang and which by Qin Guanglin.

"You’ve guessed wrong..."

He began to correct him but got poked by He Fang and immediately silenced himself, signaling he understood.

At her house, of course, the more impressive the better.

"You’re heading back tomorrow, right... come on, have some more to drink," He Shan opened another bottle of liquor, seizing the cheerful atmosphere.

"Brother..." He Fang’s voice drew out as she stared at him.

"We three will only drink one bottle, no one will get drunk."

"Yes, won’t get drunk."

While they talked, the liquor was poured, and Qin Guanglin gave He Fang a reassuring look.

One bottle of liquor for three people, each having a bit more than three shots, wouldn’t be enough to get anyone drunk.
