Chapter 272: Chapter 268: Living in a Manure Pit
"Don’t come over here!"
"You eat it too."
He Fang ran back holding the stinky tofu, ignoring Qin Guanglin’s resistance, and forcefully fed him through the window.
"I won’t eat it!" Qin Guanglin was so overwhelmed by the smell that tears almost came out. Who on earth invented this thing?
"I’m going to close the window, you eat it yourself!"
"No, I think it’s delicious, you have to try it too."
He Fang had long seen through his actual desire for the tofu and stubbornly reached out with a piece.
It smells foul but tastes divine, how can you understand love without trying a bite?
Qin Guanglin stubbornly refused, "I’m really going to close the window now!"
How can there be such a strange food in this world? I really can’t understand why anyone would...
"Do you want to in the restroom...?"
He Fang twirled the piece of tofu slowly, giving Qin Guanglin a sideways glance as she whispered.
"..."
"..."
Qin Guanglin swallowed, glancing at He Fang and then at the piece of dark stinky tofu, suddenly feeling... it wasn’t that smelly, maybe?
"If you won’t eat it, forget it then—"
"Give me a taste!"
Watching Qin Guanglin close his eyes and mumble something before swallowing the tofu, He Fang smiled with her eyes narrowed, sucking on a toothpick and asked, "Tastes good, right?"
"...It’s weird."
Qin Guanglin didn’t really taste it, just chewed it a couple of times with his eyes closed and swallowed it down.
It’s just stinky tofu, after all, who can’t eat it?
"Try another bite." He Fang ate a piece herself and handed another one to him.
"No, thanks."
"You do want it, or else what you just said is void."
"..."
One, two, three pieces, ah, Qin Guanglin realized that it’s indeed hard to accept the smell, but it tasted rather good.
"What did you say it looked like before I went to buy it?"
He Fang, leaning on the car window without leaving, kept standing there eating one piece after another, smacking her lips occasionally while feeding Qin Guanglin a bite.
If both of them smell, neither can tell that the other stinks.
Having eaten it already, Qin Guanglin naturally wouldn’t disgust himself, "I said it looked like stinky tofu."
"Hmph, the last piece, I’ll give you half."
"You enjoy it by yourself."
"Hurry up."
After finishing their snacks by the roadside, He Fang finally walked around the car and sat back in the passenger seat, buckling her seatbelt while saying, "Since we’re already out, let’s just eat outside today."
"Sure." Qin Guanglin glanced at the time, it was just four in the afternoon, not yet time for dinner, and he couldn’t be bothered to go back and cook, so he thought about it and asked, "So now, do we continue to look at apartments, go shopping, or see a movie?"
"No more apartment hunting... Let’s go to the cinema first, if there’s something good we’ll watch it, if not, we’ll go shopping."
Qin Guanglin nodded, slowly turned the car around, and parked at West City Square’s parking lot. Then, pulling He Fang out, he was about to bend down to kiss her but stopped himself.
"Ah~" He suddenly felt melancholic.
He Fang glanced at him, "What are you sighing for?"
"Ever since I’ve been with you, I’ve started eating raw garlic, got used to spicy food, and now I can even stomach stinky tofu..." Qin Guanglin shook his head and sighed, "I feel like I’m not clean anymore."
"Have you heard of Snail Noodles?"
"..."
Qin Guanglin tensed up, his look at her changed somewhat, "Are you serious?"
"What do you think?"
"...if you dare to mess around, I’ll just stay at home and eat durian."
"Then I’ll stay at home and eat stinky tofu."
"Then I’ll stay at home and eat smelly mandarin fish."
"Then I’ll stay at home and eat Snail Noodles."
"Then... probably, no, definitely will be kicked out by the landlord." Qin Guanglin couldn’t help but laugh, "The neighbors will think our toilet exploded."
He Fang thought about that scene and also felt a bit uncomfortable, "Humph, you can live in a dung heap for all I care."
She paused for a moment, looked around, and pointed to the vegetarian restaurant beside the square, "Let’s go eat there later tonight."
It’s still enjoyable to eat something light and bland.
"Okay."
Qin Guanglin had no objections, holding He Fang’s hand as they stepped onto the escalator, slowly swaying up to the third-floor cinema.
The National Day file had already become the past, with film merchants holding back for the New Year’s Day slot. In the meantime, the movies showing in the theaters were all lukewarm, giving the cinema an air of quietness as one casually glanced around.
"I’ve been too busy recently, haven’t paid attention to what’s good... What do you want to watch?" Qin Guanglin asked as he browsed the posters.
"I haven’t paid much attention either."
"Mr. Donkey? This poster looks pretty interesting."
"Good... not really." He Fang shook her head and pulled him to the side, "It doesn’t sound appealing just from the name."
"Um... A Chinese Odyssey Part Three?"
"Looking at that cast list is like seeing a bunch of ghosts, capitalizing on nostalgia just to make a buck, I’d rather watch Part Two."
"Part Two is here too." Qin Guanglin pointed at a poster in the corner, a bit surprised, "It’s been re-released... I haven’t seen this one in the cinema before, shall we watch it again?"
"Um... Sure." He Fang nodded at the words ’high-definition remaster’ on the poster. Anyway, it was to kill time, and since there were no good new releases, watching an old film wasn’t bad – at least the quality was assured, so one wouldn’t feel sick after spending money.
"—With such an old film, we might be able to book the whole theater for ourselves." She said with a smile, raising her eyebrows as she took out her phone to buy tickets at the machine up front.
The cinema had long since shed the run-down look it had when the two first watched "Goodbye, Mr. Loser"; it had undergone a big renovation. Not only had more auditoriums been added, but these support services had also upgraded with the latest technology, making things a lot more convenient.
The West City cinema hall wasn’t as empty as He Fang had expected—with only a handful of people possibly booking the whole theater—it was already sold to one-third capacity, to their renewed surprise.
"These people... nostalgic?" Qin Guanglin was a bit baffled; he just thought the film was a mix of laughter and tears and would be nice to sit in the cinema with his girlfriend to watch, not expecting there to be many other viewers.
"Contrast effect." He Fang pointed at the nearby "A Chinese Odyssey Part Three" and laughed, "They’ve probably been disgusted by that and are here to cleanse their eyes with Part Two."
"..."
Qin Guanglin took out his phone and searched for movie reviews, exclaiming, "You really called it..."
The two sat on the lobby sofa waiting for the movie to start, their heads together flipping through reviews, laughing from time to time. When it was time to enter the auditorium, they walked past one of the hall doors, and Qin Guanglin stopped in his tracks.
"...the wind that night blew~"
The familiar strains of a song came from inside, but before he could listen closely, He Fang tugged him forward.
"Why are you walking so slow?" He Fang urged.
"Nothing."
Qin Guanglin shook his head and quickly put the thought behind him.
"Right, give me the tickets."
They found their seats and settled down; Qin Guanglin seemed to remember something and reached out his hand to He Fang while the lights were still on.
"What for?" He Fang handed him the two ticket stubs, curious as she saw him take out his phone.
"Posting on Friends’ Circle."
"..."
"Hand over here." Qin Guanglin wasn’t satisfied with the first photo; he looked up and pulled her hand closer, placed the ticket stubs next to their clasped hands, and took another picture with his phone.
He Fang watched him finish the photo shoot, giving him a blank look, "Isn’t that a bit much?"
"Not at all."
Qin Guanglin chuckled as he posted on Friends’ Circle, explaining, "I’m doing a good deed, indirectly urging all those single people to hurry up and find girlfriends."
