Sweet slice-of-life love story: Wife, Let's love again
Chapter 259 - 255: When Will it Go Bankrupt?

Chapter 259: Chapter 255: When Will it Go Bankrupt?

On the last day of summer vacation, He Fang and Qin Guanglin didn’t go anywhere. They stayed at home and watched movies all day, and in the evening, they gave themselves a little break by not going to the gym. Instead, they lay on the bed, heads together, playing Fight the Landlord.

Despite Qin Guanglin’s occasional meticulous guidance, He Fang’s skills had not improved at all. She was still a money scatterer, living off the bare minimum each day.

Occasionally, Qin Guanglin would let her win some beans which felt like a festival, but if luck was not on her side and she lost her subsidy, she would nag for days until Qin Guanglin won it back for her.

"School starts tomorrow, ah~"

After finishing a game, He Fang lay back and sighed while looking at the ceiling.

The start of school was as stressful for teachers as it was for students. The bustling new semester was about to start, and there was a pile of things waiting to be done.

"Anyway, it’s just a few classes a day, what’s there to sigh about? Isn’t it pretty easy?"

"I still have to assign homework and grade papers every day... It’s not just standing on the podium and talking." He Fang reached up, pretending to grab at something, then turned her head, "Guess how many unlucky students will have their summer homework eaten by dogs, washed in the washing machine, or accidentally left at home tomorrow?"

"...Students really have it tough." Qin Guanglin pictured Little Fatty’s snotty, tear-stained face in his mind.

No need to guess; that guy was sure to get a beating with a broomstick again.

He Fang suddenly stretched out her foot and kicked him, "You said you were going to take me out during the summer vacation, and now school starts tomorrow, and we haven’t gone anywhere."

"When did I... Oh, I just got promoted, and I couldn’t get away."

"Excuse."

"It’s true, you don’t know how many things I have to deal with every day, and the boss wants to promote me..."

Qin Guanglin sighed. He had planned to take a long vacation during He Fang’s summer break to travel with her and explore the beautiful landscapes of our country. However, he was promoted in July, and Chen Rui had handed over all the company’s affairs to him while he slipped away to toy with the website.

"Promote?" He Fang frowned, suspiciously glancing at him, "Promote what? Didn’t you say you were already the second in command? Has your boss gone mad, thinking of promoting you to the boss so he can retire?"

"No, it’s not like that... How should I put it? It’s like that writer you were talking about, the ’big shot’, ’platinum’, the kind who can support a whole site by themselves..."

"It’s not ’us’, I am a traditional, physical book writer, I’m not like those online writers." He Fang corrected him but got his point. After a moment’s thought, she asked, "Can you do it?"

"How would I know? He loves to tinker; I’ve got nothing to lose."

Chen Rui had tried to pull in those so-called big shots from outside sites, offering them very generous terms, but with the website still not properly rebuilt, he hadn’t managed to lure a single one. No one would be crazy enough to launch exclusively on that broken site. Only two or three acquaintances agreed to wait until the site was rebuilt and then update there in synchronization, which frustrated him to the point of using company resources to try to create a big shot of his own.

For Qin Guanglin, whether it worked out or not didn’t much matter. He obviously couldn’t leave his job at the moment, unless the company really did go under from Chen Rui’s mishandling, in which case any long-term contract would be as good as null. So, when he heard Chen Rui’s idea, he hesitated only two days before signing on.

"I feel like you’re drifting further away from me." He Fang suddenly sighed.

"How am I drifting away?"

Qin Guanglin pulled He Fang into his arms, nudged his head into her neck a couple of times, taking a deep breath of her faint fragrance, "Is this close enough?"

"It’s not that..."

"All these worries over nothing... it’s just a trip. Wait for the National Day holiday. Are you going back to He City for National Day? If not, let’s go together."

"I haven’t even gone home this summer vacation, what do you think?" He Fang rubbed her little foot on his leg, "When is your company going to go bankrupt, huh?"

"Huh?" Qin Guanglin was a bit confused; how had they suddenly jumped to the topic of the company going bankrupt?

"I really want it to go out of business."

"..."

Qin Guanglin was speechless for a moment, then suddenly propped himself up and cradled her face, looking at her intently from left to right.

"What are you looking at?"

"I feel like you might have a bit of a sick love tendency, always wanting me to stay at home with you every day? This obsession is too deep, isn’t it?"

He had learned the term "sick love" while drawing comics and never thought that He Fang would even be jealous of the company—to the point that it became a rather big joke.

"I just think that creation shouldn’t be like working a job, like when I write novels. If I go to a company and sit in a cubicle to write a certain number of words for a certain amount of money, can that still be called being an author?"

"That’s called a ghostwriter," Qin Guanglin shrugged and lay back down. "But comics are different... Okay, essentially it’s pretty similar, my boss has said things similar to what you said."

"That’s why you should come back home and draw your own comics."

"We already went over this. Ghostwriter or not, as long as it earns money, it’s fine by me," Qin Guanglin said nonchalantly. "And if you think about it seriously, drawing comics and you writing novels really aren’t the same. We can draw, but we can’t create stories, so we need the company to find hooks based on the current market’s popular works, provide us with stories to draw, and then our drawing skills have a place to shine—the core of comics is still the story. Without a good story, no matter how well you draw, it’s useless."

"But the one on your public account is really good, isn’t it?"

"That only makes a bit of money, and who knows when it’ll stop. It’s only when something interesting happens between you and me, something that can be drawn, then I’ll just draw it casually."

"You’re just too obsessed with money," He Fang huffed and turned her back, not wanting to deal with him.

The key issue was she had nothing to say against his arguments; they were wrapped up in a neat package, completely irrefutable, not to mention that her own pathetic excuses didn’t hold water at all.

"What I’m doing is a very normal job; it’s clearly you who’s acting strange, always wanting me to stay at home. Do you really want to keep me as a kept man?" Qin Guanglin pinched her soft flesh and hummed softly in her ear.

"Get off, I want to sleep."

"Okay, sleep then. I’ll turn off the light," he said, getting up and placing his hand on the switch, then turned back and added, "Do you need to go pee? So you don’t have to get up in the middle of the night."

He Fang opened her eyes and thought for a while, then slowly crawled out of bed.

"Don’t you turn into a real sick lover one day; that would be too scary."

"Keep dreaming," He Fang toddled out of the bedroom, and a moment later, a scream was heard.

"What happened?!"

Qin Guanglin sprang out of bed and ran barefoot to the living room, finding He Fang hopping around at the bathroom door.

"There’s a cockroach!"

"... Give me your shoe, I’ll kill it."

He Fang ran back and stood aside, shaking her head. "No, it’s too disgusting, use your own."

"You’ve let it get away with your dawdling; what’s the point now? Hurry up," Qin Guanglin said helplessly and went to his room to get his slippers, planning to wash his feet again.

Renting an old house always came with one problem or another; it was high time to hurry up and buy a new one.

And it had to be high up, the higher the better.
