Chapter 242: Episode 238: Confess Early

The company started work on the tenth day of lunar New Year.

Qin Guanglin arrived on the sixth day and visited on the seventh; he could only stay in He City for a maximum of three days and had to return to Luo City on the ninth.

Naturally, he was to take He Fang back with him. Even though He’s Daddy was a bit reluctant, he didn’t say anything and silently agreed.

The daughter was grown up, had her own life, and was no longer the little girl who stays at home for more than a month during summer vacation. These were the realities, and now considering Qin Guanglin seemed alright and had no major faults, all He’s Daddy could do was vent his frustration through drinking, to soothe the slight resentment from this boy stealing his "cabbage."

Early on the ninth.

Qin Guanglin parked his car downstairs and helped He Fang carry her packed bags down, no longer staying for lunch. The drive from He City to Luo City took seven to eight hours. If the road conditions were snowy like on the way here, it would be even slower. To make it back before dark, they had to leave early.

The He family father and son, holding some local specialties and He City delicacies, forcefully stuffed them into the trunk and gave a few instructions about being cautious on the road. Watching the white car slowly exit the neighborhood, they then turned around to go back upstairs.

"Do you think Luo City is truly better than He City?" He’s Daddy asked He Shan, smacking his lips.

"Well, of course. He City, this dump, doesn’t have anything. How can it compare to Luo City? Stop fretting. I think Fang is having a good time in Luo City and that young man, Qin Guanglin, is reliable—You saw the last time he was here fighting to protect He Fang, and when people talked about compensating twenty thousand, what happened? Fang said no, and he agreed. Then he went on to buy a car worth more than two hundred thousand..."

"Alright, alright, I was just mentioning it, no need to ramble on..." He’s Daddy interrupted impatiently and murmured softly, "No matter how good Luo City is, can it be better than home..."

He Shan heard his muttering, chuckled, and didn’t respond, getting up to go to the bedroom to catch up with Zhao Qing for some shut-eye.

...

"What did my dad talk to you about yesterday?"

As the car left He City and entered the highway, He Fang leaned on the passenger seat, half-closing her eyes to rest, and asked.

On the eighth afternoon, He’s Daddy, avoiding He Fang, pulled Qin Guanglin aside and babbled on about who knows what. He Fang wanted to listen in, but was sent away, pouting and ignoring them. Now, curiosity got the better of her again.

"Uh... nothing much, just small talk."

"Hmph, you’ve changed. You’re not the same Classmate Qin who used to tell me everything. Now you’ve learned to keep secrets."

...

Qin Guanglin glanced at her pouting and couldn’t help but laugh, "Come give me a kiss, and I’ll tell you."

"I don’t want to listen anymore, tell me or don’t," He Fang turned her head away stubbornly, she said, "but I’ve already guessed it anyway."

"Well, why don’t you guess."

"I’ve guessed, just not telling you."

The car sped along the highway, and there was no traffic from He City to Luo City. By the afternoon, they had reached the boundaries of Luo City, the snow by the roadsides indicated how heavy the snowfall had been two days earlier, but fortunately, the roads had been cleared.

Once off the highway, the road conditions became worse, ice formed from the melted snow covered the roads. Qin Guanglin had to slow down carefully. It was just getting dark when they reached the South Fly Road intersection.

"My aunt came over; we are having dinner at my place tonight."

"Sure, let’s drive directly there now," He Fang did not unfasten her seat belt and pointed behind, "My dad stuffed too much stuff in the trunk, we can’t finish it all. Let’s take it to your place, maybe your aunt can take some back too."

"Okay..."

Without staying at South Fly Road, Qin Guanglin turned around and headed directly to his home, bringing He Fang inside. His aunt was examining some collectibles with Qin’s Mom, her eyes brightened when she saw He Fang.

"Auntie, this is my girlfriend, He Fang." Qin Guanglin helped He Fang take off her coat and led her over to introduce her.

After getting to know each other, seeing how well they got along and laughed together, Qin Guanglin was also happy. He moved the things from the car inside, then opened the fridge to check and called Zheng Jie to go out and buy groceries.

Dinner was naturally lavish, with the best cooks present. Each prepared several of their best dishes, and soon the table was half full. They sliced up the cured meat they had brought back from He City, and the red wine Auntie had brought was also opened. Except for Jie, who was still young, everyone else drank a little.

"You didn’t drink too much, did you?" Auntie saw He Fang’s flushed face and asked with concern as she picked up the half cup left in front of He Fang and poured it directly into Qin’s glass.

"No, just a little bit."

He Fang bowed her head slightly and spoke softly, her face red as if she was feeling shy.

After a pause, seeing that everyone had finished their meal, she got up to clean up the dishes and take them to the kitchen.

"Darling, don’t move... Let Guanglin take her to rest; we’ll clean up."

"Oh, oh."

Qin Guanglin knew He Fang hadn’t drunk much, just a bit tipsy, but he did not explain. He helped her sit on the sofa to rest forcibly and rolled up his sleeves to help clean up. Then he joined everyone in watching TV.

It was past eight in the evening when the two returned to their own place. The blush on He Fang’s face hadn’t faded, and she lazily lay on the bed, motionless as if she had turned into a lazy fish.

"I’m finally back, ah~"

"Drink some water before you continue ’ah-ing.’ I initially wanted to do a big clean-up, but then we went to He City halfway... Sigh, maybe you can tidy it up tomorrow if you have time."

Qin Guanglin handed her some warm water and sighed as he looked around the bedroom.

"You could have cleared it up with a phone call, but you had to go there; whose fault is that?"

"Who makes you not tell me, making me worry for nothing."

"Hmph..." He Fang softly hummed as she finished her water and lay back down. "Next time, I’ll definitely tell you... I just forgot... Please don’t take me to the hospital, okay?"

"No."

Qin Guanglin checked the calendar on his phone and said, "I just have to work four days before the weekend; let’s go to the hospital then for a thorough check-up to make sure you aren’t hiding anything else... I always feel something’s off about you, and you’re definitely keeping something from me; confess now, or if I find out on my own—figure it out yourself."

Seeing He Fang lying there staring at the ceiling in silence, his heart skipped a beat, and he suspiciously asked, "Do you really have something?"

"No, how could I keep anything from you? You are my dearest boyfriend."

He Fang stretched out her arms towards him, "Come here, hug me."

There were some things she didn’t want, nor could reveal.

If she spoke out, the most likely outcome would be that he would consider it nonsense and send her to the psychiatric hospital immediately.

He Fang trusted him to arrange the best hospital for her, provide the best medicine.

"There are no secrets between us; you can trust me completely, okay?" Qin Guanglin gently embraced her, holding her close as he spoke, "Whatever it is, we can think of a solution together, we’re family now, and we can face everything together..."

"Okay!"

He Fang quickly agreed, giggling, "Hug me to the bathroom, let’s face the pain of bathing in winter together!"
