Chapter 233: Chapter 229: Smart Person
Taking advantage of the night, they returned home, where He Fang was sitting on the sofa watching TV with Qin’s Mom. They were watching "Kirin Genius, Mei Changsu."
Qin’s Mom was eagerly explaining the previous episodes to He Fang to prevent her from being confused since she started watching from episode thirty. He Fang smiled and nodded from time to time while listening. When Qin Guanglin arrived home, the two reacted differently.
"You’re back so early?" Qin’s Mom hadn’t spent much time with He Fang and felt a bit regretful. She had hoped they could sit a little longer and chat.
In her view, these two were definitely at seventy percent already. As long as nothing went wrong, they were sure to become a family and enter the same door together. She previously always thought He Fang was suitable in every way but worried that something might go wrong between the two. But now, seeing how well Qin Guanglin had done, having bought a car in such a short time, she felt they would be ready by next year this time with a bit more money added for a new house.
Accomplished.
Impressive.
Truly one of the Qin family.
Though she thought Qin Guanglin was doing remarkably well, her affectionate gaze turned to He Fang, almost wishing the two could get married right there.
When Aunt Wang comes over next time, she definitely wanted to lean back tactically and say, "What does it mean to bring fortune to one’s husband?
That behind a successful man stands an equally remarkable woman.
Whether it’s temperament, character, knowledge, etiquette, or the ability to relate to others and read situations, as well as managing household affairs, these traits might not seem directly connected to a man’s career at first glance, but they actually embody the essence of bringing fortune to one’s husband.
Being able to make a man willingly struggle and strive for her without any worries is what constitutes a perfect wife.
The Qin family has indeed found a treasure.
Qin Guanglin never thought about this much, but seeing the two of them sitting together made him inexplicably happy. He chuckled and said, "It’s not early, it’s past eight. We need to go to the gym now. You continue enjoying the TV, okay?"
He casually grabbed a coat from the nearby rack and draped it over He Fang, also wrapping a scarf around her. They both said goodbye to Qin’s Mom and left together.
The living room was left with only the sounds of dialogue from the TV. Qin’s Mom leaned back on the sofa, her thoughts drifting elsewhere. After a while, she suddenly stood up.
She returned to the bedroom and searched around, eventually taking out several incense sticks. She lit them and placed them in the censer on the desk, gazing at a black and white photograph on the table for a while before smiling softly and letting out a sigh of relief.
"I’ll tell you..."
After working out at the gym and heading back to their place, Qin Guanglin showered and posed in front of the mirror, admiring his reflection—the naked man—and nodding in satisfaction.
It had only been a short time since he started gymming, and there wasn’t much change yet, but he felt he was definitely firmer and more muscular, and he wouldn’t accept any contradiction.
Swinging like a pendulum, he scampered back to the bed and slid under the covers, wrapping himself tightly and only poking his head out to urge He Fang to take a shower.
"I’ll go after you warm up the bed," He Fang said leisurely as she browsed the web, not in a rush to shower.
Though bathing in winter is a chore you dread before you start and wish wouldn’t stop once it’s begun, overall, it is quite a torment.
"When are you planning to go back? I’ll book your ticket in advance, or it’ll be troublesome if you can’t get one later on," Qin Guanglin added, worrying a bit about the travel rush.
"I’m looking at that now. Probably on the 25th or 26th. It wouldn’t be good to go too late."
"The 25th is already quite late though... Oh, and you don’t need to book a return ticket. I’ll drive to your place and then bring you back. How does that sound?"
"Sounds good," He Fang nodded, understanding his intent without needing an explanation. It was simply to show off his capabilities to her family, reassuring her future father-in-law and brother-in-law. Though it was just a car, having it was indeed better than not.
She clicked the mouse to book the tickets, received the verification code on her phone, and saw the confirmation before turning off the computer. She stretched and stood up, "When are you going?"
"That depends on you. Whenever you say," Qin Guanglin had already started pondering what gifts to bring when visiting.
Alcohol, tobacco, and tea are essential gifts, but besides these, I need to add something more thoughtful to show how serious I am.
This year, no gifts for the holidays... ah damn, that won’t work; it’s just a tax on intelligence. I’ll have to think of something else.
"Let’s decide when the time comes. I’ll see when I’m available to call you. It wouldn’t be good if we have guests at home."
He Fang agreed while slipping his hand under the blanket to check the temperature and, satisfied, turned around to find a shower cap and shuffled off to the bathroom to bathe.
After living together for a while, pajamas have become somewhat optional. Both of them, after bathing, would bounce around with their unique "ouch ouch" and dash out, then slip into the blankets, wrapping themselves tightly to ease the chill from just exiting the bath.
Qin Guanglin pulled the blanket toward her side, just enough to snugly wrap them both, "After this meeting, should we consider setting a date for marriage?"
"It’s just a piece of paper. What’s the difference between now and being married?"
"Uh..."
Qin Guanglin, at a loss for words, embraced her and thought for a moment before continuing, "There must be a difference, otherwise why would so many people get married?... Wait, does this count as illegal cohabitation?"
"It doesn’t count for shit."
He Fang laughed at his baseless worries, "Illegal cohabitation applies to those who are already married. Like if you and I were married, and then I ran off to live with someone else, that would be illegal. If you dare do that, I’ll have my brother and sister-in-law sue you and take you to court."
"What nonsense, who am I going to live with?" Qin Guanglin felt a headache coming on. "Even if I did live with someone else, you’d probably tear me to pieces then and there, so why bother suing?"
"Good to know..." He Fang hummed as she reached back, "I’m guessing you won’t have the energy to do that anyway..."
"Eh?" Qin Guanglin wouldn’t have it.
Who is she looking down on?
"Ah stop it... I was wrong, let’s just talk nicely," He Fang apologized, wrapping herself tightly in the small blanket.
Everyone needs some rest.
Qin Guanglin quieted down, gazing at the ceiling, his thoughts drifting. Although living in this room was comfortable, it was after all, a rental. It could never be as comforting and reassuring as having his own place.
He might have to ask his mom for some money to buy a house sooner rather than later, even if it’s just for the down payment. Especially since housing prices are sky-rocketing; salaries could never keep up.
"Don’t just point fingers at me; what if you engage in illegal cohabitation with someone else? I wouldn’t be able to sue, and couldn’t bear to tear you apart either. What would I do then?"
"Tsk, do you think I’m an idiot?"
"No, who could be more intelligent than you?"
"Good to know." He Fang hummed, smiling as she adjusted her sleeping position slowly, "Men cheat to covet others’ bodies; why do women cheat?"
"How would I know? I’m not a woman."
"I am a woman and I still don’t get it. I don’t understand those people—not marrying her, yet living with her and possibly even having a child, keeping it secret from their husband to support... Is that something humans do? Men might be fools, but that woman surely isn’t clever.
If someone tried to make me do that, either he’s an imbecile, or he thinks I’m a bigger fool. Would I ever fancy someone who treats me as such?"
"Heh heh, you’re right," Qin Guanglin couldn’t help but laugh, "People mess up their lives like that. Even the children probably wouldn’t be clever. It’s all in the genes, right?"
"Uh-huh, good to know. To overlook such a handsome, gentle, considerate, and incredibly awesome husband for someone who’d treat me as a fool, then I’d really be an idiot..."
"Hey... just talk, what are you doing?"
"The more I talk, the more I realize how great you are. Let me reward you."
