Sweet slice-of-life love story: Wife, Let's love again
Chapter 193 - 190: You’re like a jerk

Chapter 193: Chapter 190: You’re like a jerk

Midnight.

Rain tapped on the window, sounding a soft, rustling noise.

Feeling a slight chill, Qin Guanglin sleepily turned over, withdrew his arm from He Fang’s embrace, fumbled for a moment at his side, and finally found the corner of the blanket she had kicked aside. He pulled it over both of them, hugged her again, felt the warmth from the blanket and her body, and continued to sleep.

The drizzle persisted until morning, leaving the ground wet and occasionally forming small puddles. The air was filled with the fresh scent typical after rain.

The two had breakfast together, then parted ways at the bus station to catch their buses to work, starting their busy day.

"What do you think the purpose of going to work is?"

During lunch, Sun Wen started contemplating life again while holding a Coke.

Qin Guanglin was used to his friend’s random musings, probably just some youthful confusion. He thought for a moment and shrugged, "The purpose of going to work is just to wait for the time to leave."

"Isn’t it to make money?"

"Then why do people who already have a lot of money still work?"

"Who would think they have enough money? They definitely can never earn enough."

"There certainly are some... like our current boss," Qin Guanglin laughed pointing outside. "When you have enough money, work becomes something to create and realize self-worth. You’ll understand once you have enough money."

"It sounds like you have enough and understand," Sun Wen rolled his eyes. "Discussing rich people’s problems as three poor guys is just ridiculous."

"Weren’t you the one who started it?" Yu Le felt quite innocent. Why did he always get dragged into this?

Being poor didn’t bother anyone...

"Currently, I think I do have enough," Qin Guanglin considered that aside from planning to buy a car at the end of the year, he didn’t have many expenses. "What about you? How is your girlfriend?"

"She’s okay, alright."

Sun Wen nodded, leaned back in his chair, and sighed, "I’ve realized that distance does make the heart grow fonder."

"What do you mean?"

"Living together before, seeing each other every day got tiresome, and occasionally feeling dissatisfaction was normal. Those petty annoyances were indeed irritating. As long one doesn’t see each other daily, the rare moments we meet become precious, and naturally, we avoid daily arguments."

"Uh... you don’t live together anymore?"

"No, she stays in the company dormitory now, and really, our relationship has improved; we hardly ever argue."

Qin Guanglin smiled and didn’t take his talk about distance creating beauty seriously, nor did he argue. As long as the relationship was good, that was what mattered.

"It’s good not to argue... Have you ever been to her place?"

"I have... well, not exactly. Her home is in the suburbs. I’ve driven her home but never went inside. Just stopped at the door, why?"

"Nothing." Qin Guanglin shook his head, paused for a moment, then asked, "Have you met her parents?"

"No, not yet..." Sun Wen waved his hand, "Those are things to consider when talking about marriage."

"Didn’t you two live together for two years? Aren’t you discussing marriage?"

...

Sun Wen fell silent for a moment, smacking his lips and sighing, "She says there’s no rush, it’s still too early."

"It’s not that early, having been together so long."

"But I don’t have anything now, just a poor guy."

...

...

At sunset.

Qin Guanglin just left the office building and immediately spotted He Fang standing not far away.

The white coat she wore when she left the house in the morning lay casually over her arm, her body clad in a pristine white T-shirt paired with jeans, and on her feet, a pair of white flats, looking neat and tidy as she stood there waving at him gently.

"Up so early today?"

"Yeah, just had an assessment today, it finished early."

He Fang smiled and took his hand, giving it a little shake, then tilted her head back to ask, "How does it feel to see me right after work?"

"A surprise."

"What else?"

"Happy."

"Haha, give me a kiss."

"Broad daylight, clear skies... let’s move a bit further, it’s a bit embarrassing if colleagues see us."

The setting sun drenched the streets, the two of them giggling all the way to the bus stop in the twilight; by the time they reached home, the sun hadn’t completely set yet. After buying groceries at the market, He Fang, arm in arm with Qin Guanglin who was carrying the groceries, leisurely walked up the stairs.

Going to work, getting off work, buying groceries, cooking – these shouldn’t appear in a passionate romance yet they naturally blended into life.

He Fang sat cross-legged on the sofa, played a couple rounds of "Landlord" on Qin Guanglin’s phone, and looking up at Qin Guanglin’s silhouette in the kitchen, she felt he was quieter than usual today and wondered, "I think there’s something up with you."

"What thing?" Qin Guanglin turned and smiled, "You can sense that?"

"A woman’s sixth sense."

"..."

"There really is something." He Fang confidently said, "Usually you would say this is ’telepathy.’"

"Aren’t you always the mind reader? Take a guess." Qin Guanglin casually spoke as he smashed some garlic, not hearing He Fang respond. He turned back to look, and there she was, tapping her chin with her finger, eyes intently fixed on him.

"Alright, it’s just a little thing." He paused, hesitated, and then said, "I suddenly feel... is it too soon to meet your parents now?"

He Fang frowned upon hearing this, "Weren’t you the one who was always in a rush?"

"Yes, I was eager."

As Qin Guanglin tidied up the groceries, he struggled, "But aren’t you not in a hurry? I thought it was simple earlier, meet the parents then smoothly propose, get engaged, and marry... It’s not that easy, there’s a lot to consider."

"What are these many things? Let’s hear them." She asked, full of curiosity.

"I have nothing now."

"What do you mean by nothing?" He Fang was surprised, not following his train of thought.

"No car, no apartment, no savings... well, a little savings, but what good do they do? Aside from drawing some crappy pictures, I have nothing else." Qin Guanglin paused his chopping and turned to look at her, "This isn’t reliable..."

"If you had everything, that would be abnormal. Do you think you’re a ’rich second generation’ or something?" He Fang rolled her eyes.

"... Don’t talk for now, I know it’ll come later, but right now we have nothing. Are you okay with that? Oh... you definitely would say you’re okay, but would my father-in-law be?"

He shook his head, "Too soon, you just graduated, and though I’m working, it’s just work for now..."

Not to mention a house, which is even further out of reach, just having a stable job is currently beyond him, whether he hides at home to paint or stays at this company, neither is stable.

"Pfft..." He Fang couldn’t help but laugh at him, "If like you said, we had everything before meeting the father-in-law, the civil affairs bureau would lose eighty percent of their work, young people wouldn’t need to get married, just wait until their thirties."

"No, it’s not the same."

"How is it different?"

"We’re not getting married for the sake of getting married, I want to marry you because I love you." Qin Guanglin was serious, "I love you, and don’t want you to feel unstable. I want to give you the best, wait until I have everything, then I’ll have the confidence to meet your father and your uncle, everyone will be satisfied, and I could happily bring you home, wouldn’t that be better?"

He paused, saw He Fang looking at him silently, and continued, "Right now I can’t give you the best, so I feel a bit anxious about meeting your father. Marrying you without having anything might make you feel hard done by, so... maybe let’s wait, what do you think?"

"I think..."

He Fang’s eyes curved, stifling her laughter, "Right now, you kind of sound like a scumbag trying to dodge marriage."
