Chapter 187: Chapter 184: Dawn Has Arrived
Night was gradually deepening.
The wind was a bit chilly, and Qin Guanglin tightened his clothes before lifting He Fang into his arms, "Should we head back to rest?"
"Yep, we still have to get up early to watch the sunrise. Let’s go wash our faces over there."
Both of them went to the river to clean up. He Fang simply washed her arms and face, while Qin Guanglin took off his shirt and splashed around in the water, thoroughly enjoying himself. The ice-cold river water felt indescribably refreshing against his skin, and if it hadn’t been so late, he might have even gone for a swim.
"Stop messing around."
After finishing washing, he pushed away He Fang’s little hand that was resting on him, grabbed his t-shirt, hesitated for a moment, but didn’t put it back on, deciding to return to the tent like this, letting it dry as he walked.
"You look very manly like that," He Fang said, her eyes glowing as she looked at the drenched Qin Guanglin.
Urging him to keep up with jogging was definitely the right policy. He wasn’t obviously muscular, but at least he was a food lover—skinny when dressed, with a bit of meat on his bones when undressed. His wet skin, glistening with water, made her heart skip a beat.
Hungry, so hungry.
"Piggyback me back."
"Wet and piggybacking, no way."
"Anyway, I have to change and wash these clothes, it’s fine."
He Fang didn’t care, jumped lightly behind Qin Guanglin, and clung to his back, wrapping her arms around his neck, her small hands mischievously reaching around.
"This is your real purpose, isn’t it?" Qin Guanglin hoisted her up a bit, reciprocating by pressing his palms.
"It’s not bad this way, taking advantage of each other, with neither at a loss."
"There’s some logic to that, shall I carry you around the river for a bit?"
"Isn’t it better to go back to the tent?"
Teasing each other, they returned to the tent, where Qin Guanglin took a towel from his backpack to dry his hair and body. He dampened another towel for He Fang to do a quick wipe down, then they changed into clean clothes and lay on their mats, enjoying the tranquility and coziness of the small space.
"I’ve realized the true nature of couples going out together," He Fang said, leaning in Qin Guanglin’s embrace and drawing circles on his stomach.
"What nature?"
"It’s to cuddle and kiss in a different place."
"..."
Qin Guanglin thought about it and realized it was true, and couldn’t help but laugh, kissing her forehead, "Teacher He is indeed smart."
His stomach tickled as He Fang’s fingers danced over it, and he couldn’t really stop her,
they cuddled and rocked gently. Although they weren’t too tired from climbing in the day, they expended more energy than usual, and before they knew it, He Fang’s breathing had become steady and even. She fell asleep in Qin Guanglin’s arms, and he yawned, set his phone alarm for four in the morning, turned off the light, and closed his eyes to sleep.
A peaceful night.
When the alarm went off, Qin Guanglin hadn’t had enough sleep. He opened his groggy eyes, saw the phone, switched on the light, and woke He Fang. They climbed out of the tent and looked around—half the people were already yawning and moving about, waiting for the sunrise around four-thirty.
The two of them took their towels to the river for a quick clean, regaining their spirits, then prepared to sit on the hillside. Seeing the dew-covered grass, they went back to the tent to fetch mats to sit on. Qin Guanglin also took the sketchpad, and they sat on the mats waiting for the sunrise.
"We watched the sunset together yesterday."
"Yep, and then?"
"Today we watch the sunrise together again," He Fang said, her eyes curving into a smile, watching the horizon where the first light of dawn was appearing.
Dawn would come, and the glow of the morning would tear through the darkness. All gloom would become the past.
"I love you, like..."
He Fang pursed her lips, at a loss for words for a moment. Turning to look at Qin Guanglin’s smiling eyes, she blinked and said, "As much as you love me."
"Me too."
Qin Guanglin ruffled her hair, lifted his chin toward the direction of the sunrise, and gestured, "Watch carefully, it’s about to happen."
The first rays of morning light pierced through the pre-dawn gray sky, sprinkling over the two of them as He Fang snuggled into Qin Guanglin’s shoulder, suddenly feeling much lighter at heart.
Roaming through the woods, breathing in the fragrance of fresh grass, watching the sunrise and sunset, the growth of all living things...
The built-up oppression and agitation from the constant blaring of car horns in the city quietly dissipated.
While watching the sunrise, some in the group took out their phones to take photos, others stretched out their arms to bask in the morning light. He Fang turned her head and kissed Qin Guanglin’s cheek. She watched the tip of his pen start to move and after a silent moment, she spoke up, "Add us too."
"Hm?"
"Just like that moment when I kissed you, exactly as it was."
"Okay."
Qin Guanglin nodded with a smile.
While others prefer to record moments with camera film, he cherishes his pen, which allows for free addition and alterations. As long as his eyes have seen it and his heart has thought it, he can sketch it out—not just capturing fleeting moments with digital devices, which inevitably come with various regrets.
After the sunrise, everyone gradually dispersed. Sun Wen caught a glimpse of Qin Guanglin drawing again and wisely didn’t approach, instead hurrying off with Yueyue to avoid hearing ’I want one too.’ Drawing was not his forte.
Yu Le stood by, hesitating for a long time about whether to go over and observe to learn. He didn’t want to feel upset, so after scratching his heart and clawing his liver with indecision, he pretended to just pass by and glanced over. He caught sight of the tiny figures in the drawing hugging and kissing, and immediately his mouth twitched, and he turned and left without looking back.
"What’s the big shot drawing?" Jiang Lingling wanted to have a look too but didn’t want to intrude on the couple. She curiously grabbed Yu Le who was coming over and asked.
"Just that thing," Yu Le gestured with his hand towards where Qin Guanglin was.
"The sunrise?"
"Whatever you see from here."
"..."
Jiang Lingling glanced at the back of the couple on the slope, her lips pursing with envy.
She longed for a relationship like theirs.
"I always thought the big shot was a straight-up straight guy. I was wrong; this is too romantic...sigh."
"Straight guy?" Yu Le scratched his head, kept walking and then looked back again, "He is, though. Brother Wen always teases him about being hopelessly straight."
Back on Valentine’s Day, Qin Guanglin had given a ten yuan hair tie as a gift. They talked about it during dinner, and he remembered it clearly.
"Have you seen anyone else who can be this romantic? He’s a master at charming girls," Jiang Lingling rolled her eyes, frustrated that she wasn’t the one being charmed.
"That has nothing to do with being straight or not..."
"Then what does it have to do with?"
"I think it’s about love," Yu Le sighed enviously, "Romance that’s orchestrated with a lot of effort isn’t really romantic. It’s like this—naturally doing whatever you want to do. It’s different from all those pick-up tricks. That’s what love is, what’s the connection to being straight or not?"
Jiang Lingling stopped in her tracks and glared at him.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Yu Le felt unnerved under her gaze.
"...After hearing you say this, I feel even more jealous."
"I’m jealous too."
Two single dogs talking about love, Yu Le grumpily looked back at the hillside where the couple was still sitting without moving.
Hmph, sickeningly sweet.
