Sweet slice-of-life love story: Wife, Let's love again
Chapter 144 - 143: Come Over and Sit

Chapter 144: Chapter 143: Come Over and Sit

Going to a bar alone to drink, it’s easy to run into someone trying to pick you up.

Women find it easy, and so do men.

Sun Wen wasn’t surprised by the woman’s attempt to chat him up; his height of 1.9 meters had always made him a focal point in crowds. He had encountered it quite a few times during school, but after he started going out with his girlfriend, he seldom went out, and rarely visited such places; hence, he encountered it less often.

"What are we playing?" she tilted her head and thought for a moment. "Do you have any good suggestions?"

"You’re the one who brought it up, so you should come up with something." Sun Wen took another sip of his drink.

The glass wasn’t big, and he had already drunk half of it.

"Let’s play the simplest thing then."

"What?"

"Rock-paper-scissors." She shook her fist. "How about that?"

"Playing that..." Sun Wen chuckled, "What’s the stake?"

"A question."

She held up a finger. "Or a request."

"I don’t want to play."

"If the question or request is too much, you can refuse and then change it."

"In that case..." Sun Wen thought for a moment and then nodded: "Alright then."

He figured it out; this woman just wanted to flirt—or use flirting as a means to something else.

What rock paper scissors, it was just a way to get two people to warm up quickly, unlike just moments ago when she asked and he responded, which was not interesting at all.

"Then let’s do it." She glanced at Sun Wen’s glass. "Drink slower."

"You’re already making requests and you haven’t even won yet?" Sun Wen smiled, his playful mood surfacing.

A question or request... it had to leave her with a lasting impression of the night.

"Alright, rock-paper... scissors!" She and Sun Wen extended their hands simultaneously, one scissors, one rock.

Sun Wen won.

"What do you want?" She arched an eyebrow, her eyes carrying a hint of flirtation.

"A question," Sun Wen smiled, "Your name."

She hesitated, seemingly not expecting Sun Wen to ask that. She took a sip of her drink before answering, "Xu Wei."

"Xu Wei? Your real name?"

"Xu as in ’double’, Wei with the ’grass’ radical on top." Xu Wei grabbed Sun Wen’s hand and traced on his palm, "Got it?"

"Got it."

Sun Wen nodded, clenched his hand and rubbed the ticklish palm, then smiled at her, "Let’s go for the second round, rock-paper... scissors!"

Xu Wei lost again.

"A question." Sun Wen continued smiling, "Where are you from?"

"..."

Xu Wei looked at him for a moment, then suddenly laughed, "You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?"

"Doing what?"

"Checking my background?"

"It was your idea to play." Sun Wen smacked his lips, "Is this question too much?"

"From Sānmù." Xu Wei answered the question. "Want to see my ID?"

"Sure."

"Ugh, let’s go again." She had already guessed what Sun Wen would ask next and didn’t mind. She raised her hand high, "Rock-paper... scissors!"

Sun Wen, who had won two in a row, lost this time.

"A request." Xu Wei snapped her fingers and pointed at him, "Add another drink."

"That’s too much."

"I’ll pay."

"Alright then." Sun Wen didn’t hesitate, turned to the bartender and motioned, "Another of the same."

After all, with the way things were, he wouldn’t lose out, and she wouldn’t benefit.

"You’re kind of interesting." Xu Wei picked up her drink and took another sip, "What’s your name?"

"Wait until you win to ask."

"Then let’s go, rock-paper... scissors."

Xu Wei won.

"What’s your name?" she asked with a smug smile.

"Sun Wen."

"Which Sun? Which Wen?"

"The Sun from the Great Sage Equalling Heaven," Sun Wen adjusted his collar, "and the Wen from ’cultured person.’"

"Your real name?"

"Do you want to see my ID?"

"Sure." Xu Wei reached out her hand.

"Hehe." Sun Wen raised his hand and lifted his chin with a gesture, "We’ll talk about it if you win."

He had finished his drink but didn’t show any signs of drunkenness; the drink Xu Wei offered, however, was to his liking.

"Rock, paper... scissors!"

Xu Wei won again but didn’t ask to see his ID. "Why are you drinking alone?"

"I couldn’t sleep, so I came out for a drink; it’s not gloomy," Sun Wen corrected her.

"I can tell." Xu Wei gestured with her fingers to her eyes and then pointed at him, "You can refuse to say the reason, but don’t deny it."

"Alright, then I refuse. Let’s change the topic."

"Because of a breakup?" Xu Wei squinted at him, laughing before he could deny it, "It seems I guessed right."

"Fine, consider that I’ve answered," Sun Wen chuckled without much concern.

Not wanting to talk means just that; since it was guessed, it didn’t matter, it’s not something shameful.

"Most people who come to places like this to drink alone are because of breakups, right?" He shrugged, "It’s too easy to guess."

"Maybe thirty percent," Xu Wei took a sip from her glass and then held it up in front of her, looking at him through the glass and its contents, "the other seventy percent are like me."

"Uh? What kind?"

"What do you think?" Xu Wei’s lips curved into a slight smile.

"Is it what I’m thinking?"

"It is what you’re thinking."

...

Sun Wen looked at her without speaking; this was a bit too straightforward.

"The best way to get over a breakup is..." Xu Wei didn’t finish her sentence, but the implication was clear, "What do you think?"

"You’re also heartbroken?" Sun Wen asked.

"Of course not."

"But I am."

"What do you mean?" Xu Wei seemed surprised. Was this another rejection?

"I just want to have a couple of drinks and then go to sleep." Sun Wen took a big gulp from his glass, the spicy taste hitting his throat. It took him a moment to sigh in relief, "Thanks for the drink. Want to keep playing?"

"Play, of course," Xu Wei crossed her legs, leaning toward him, "Are you sure you don’t want me as your girlfriend?"

"I would definitely want that," Sun Wen looked her over, "You’re quite tempting."

This woman was above average in looks and figure, appearing even more alluring under the warm lighting.

"Is there a ’but’?"

"It just seems pointless to be for just one day," Sun Wen shook his head.

"Alright." Xu Wei nodded, tilted her head back, and drained her glass. She then put it on the bar and shook her head at him, "What a pity."

"A pity about what?"

"What do you think?" She extended a finger, touching Sun Wen’s chest, and traced a circle with her red nails, "I thought we could have a wonderful night."

"I’m really sorry then." Sun Wen didn’t pull away her hand, letting her entire hand rest on him, "But still, thanks for the drink."

"If you change your mind, come back here tomorrow." Xu Wei stood up and winked at him, "I’m free these days and will be around here."

"I hope we can talk about other things." Sun Wen strangely felt no aversion toward her, instead, he wanted to befriend her, "Just casual chat like we just had, pretty relieving."

This woman was interesting.

"Being my girlfriend doesn’t cost money, but chatting with me does." Xu Wei chuckled, glanced around the bar, took a few steps, and then stopped.

"My place is empty, really not coming over?"

...

Sun Wen waved his hand and looked away.

He was already a bit tempted, and with the alcohol possibly intensifying, who knows what might happen.
