Sweet slice-of-life love story: Wife, Let's love again
Chapter 142 - 141: Found Nothing

Chapter 142: Chapter 141: Found Nothing

Running slowly into the more populated areas, He Fang refused to speak anymore and concentrated on riding her bike with her mouth shut.

"Phew... Let’s rest for a bit, then run back," Guanglin slowed down, grasping the back seat of her bike wanting to sit on it, "You take me for a spin."

"You can’t sit, keep walking," He Fang got off the bike and started pushing it, refusing to let him sit, "Run for a month, and you’ll thank me."

"Why would I thank you after a month?"

"Because in a month, you’ll have developed a running habit, and then you’ll clearly see the benefits of running," He Fang declared confidently, "Not only does it help with weight loss, it also exercises lung capacity, boosts immunity, and is good for the cardiovascular system, among other things. Life lies in movement..."

Guanglin looked around, uninterested in her rambling about all those random benefits, which made her sound like a fitness coach.

"... steer clear of sub-health by starting with running. Hey, where are you looking? Are you listening?"

"I’m listening."

"Then repeat what I just said."

"..."

Guanglin, feeling guilty under her gaze, turned his head away to avoid her eyes and pointed at the rocking car ahead, "Look at that, you want to play?"

"Childish," He Fang rolled her eyes at him, "Don’t change the subject."

"Look at that, want it?" Guanglin continued to distract her by pointing at a distant bamboo dragonfly, "It can fly really high with just a flick."

"Alright, I..."

Just as He Fang was about to skip over the topic and let him off the hook, she suddenly stopped in her tracks, her face turning serious as she clamped her mouth shut.

"Hm? What’s wrong?" Guanglin also stopped, looking in the direction she was gazing with confusion – it was pitch black and there was nothing to see.

"..."

"What’s happening? Speak," he urged after waiting for a moment, as He Fang continued to just stand there, blank.

Why had she suddenly become like this?

After looking at him for a moment, He Fang finally spoke, "...I’m having a heavy bleed."

"What?!"

Guanglin panicked, "What should we do? Is it serious? Wait for me to stop a car..."

"No need, it’s not necessary."

"Won’t you be in trouble? Let’s go to the hospital. I remember there’s one nearby, wait, I’ll ask someone..."

"It’s a normal situation," He Fang was amused by his reaction, but didn’t dare to make any movements, "Shut up, let me calm down."

"..."

Guanglin rubbed his hands and stood to the side, not daring to make a sound; he didn’t understand the situation at all.

A heavy bleed? That sounded terrifying.

In his mind, images of blood gushing forth and drenching his whole body in red flashed by.

Fuck...

He started to panic and turned around, scanning the area, "Wait here, I’ll stop a car and we’ll go to the hospital..."

"To hell with that, come here."

He Fang nudged her bike toward him, "Just take me back to change and I’ll be fine."

"Really, it’s nothing serious?" Guanglin looked at He Fang skeptically, "A heavy bleed..."

"Shut up, ride."

"Oh."

Seeing her relax, Guanglin’s heart settled a bit and he took the bicycle, climbing on it, "Are you sure it’s okay?"

"Hurry up and ride carefully."

He Fang slowly moved to the rear seat of the bike, wrapped her arms around his waist, and situated herself on the side, "Let’s go."

"Is this really normal for you? Maybe we should still go to the hospital, in case something happens tonight..." Guanglin cycled leisurely back the way they came, non-stop chatter escaping from his lips.

"You worry too much, I told you it’s normal," He Fang leaned her face against his back and closed her eyes, tired of hearing his nagging.

"Do normal people have heavy bleeds?"

"It’s just a bit more bleeding than usual, it’s not really a heavy bleed, it’s just that feeling... you wouldn’t understand," He Fang explained, gesturing on his back, "Like the gates of a dam opening, boom – suddenly a huge clump drops..."

"Like diarrhea?" Guanglin tried to picture what she was describing.

"Don’t be ridiculous, it just comes out on its own with a gurgle, it’s not the same."

"So when you can’t hold it, isn’t that like..."

"Shut up, don’t talk about such disgusting things with me," He Fang slapped his back in disgust, "If only we could swap bodies for a bit, then you’d get to experience it."

"No thanks, that sounds terrifying."

"Hmph."

Guanglin rode the bike smoothly and steadily, meandering beneath the streetlights on their way home.

"It’s ticklish, don’t fidget, we might fall over."

Feeling He Fang’s fidgety hands on his stomach, Guanglin spoke up to stop her.

Without a word, He Fang continued doing as she pleased.

"Stop moving, behave."

"..."

"We really could fall."

Guanglin contemplated braking suddenly to scare her but dismissed the idea considering the heavy bleed and helplessly said, "Can’t you just touch the stomach, is that not enough?"

Her hand crept higher, distracting him from watching the road. Even though there were few pedestrians late at night, there could still be a random brick or rock causing a bump.

Behind him, He Fang chuckled to herself, not speaking, sneaking her hand beneath his shirt.

"That’s too much!" Guanglin felt as if he were carrying a big pervert reaching out with their evil clutches.

If their genders were reversed, she would definitely have been arrested.

"Hit me then," He Fang playfully nudged her head against Guanglin’s back, "I can’t beat you anyway, go on, hit me."

"..."

Enduring the harassment, he rode his bike back to He Fang’s place, locked it up downstairs, and only then did Qin Guanglin free himself from the devil’s clutches. Seeing that He Fang looked a lot weaker than when they’d left, he didn’t bother to settle accounts with her. "Do you want me to carry you up?"

"No, go ahead of me." He Fang shook her head in refusal, thinking that if he picked her up and bounced her around...

The thought was terrifying.

Fortunately, Qin Guanglin didn’t insist and went ahead, stomping his feet to wake up the motion-activated lights in the hallway before waiting at the corner for her to catch up and continue upwards.

Reaching the third floor and opening the door, He Fang ran straight for the bathroom. Qin Guanglin shook the water bottle on the table, finding it nearly empty, so he filled the kettle to boil some water.

Drink more hot water, it works.

The water boiled, but she hadn’t come out yet, so he took two bowls from the kitchen, one blue and one red, the couple set they’d bought at the supermarket. The kitchen had only these two bowls; the rest were plates and saucers.

He poured some boiling water into the two bowls to preheat them and dumped it out, then added about half a bowl of water back in. Qin Guanglin shifted the water between the two bowls, allowing the hot liquid to cool down faster.

"Can I drink it now?"

He Fang came out to find Qin Guanglin sitting on the sofa, pouring the boiling water from one bowl to the other while blowing on it, looking seriously concentrated.

"Let me see." Qin Guanglin took a small sip and smacked his lips, "Wait a bit longer; it’s not cooling down that quickly."

"Just give it to me, I’ll sip it slowly." He Fang took the bowl and walked into the bedroom. She hesitated for a moment before turning on the air conditioner to twenty-six degrees.

It was too hot without the air conditioner; she needed a breeze.

"Make sure you cover yourself if you’re turning on the air conditioner." Qin Guanglin instructed her and then remembered how she slept each morning, "Remember to turn it off before bed; you kick your blanket too much. I’ve never seen you properly covered by it."

"Does that mean you’ve seen everything?" He Fang leaned against the headboard and peered at him.

"You only kick the blanket, not your pajamas. What would I see?"

Qin Guanglin placed the other half-bowl of water by her bedside to cool and turned to fetch a bucket to fill with water in the bathroom.

When he returned, He Fang had already changed into an orange nightgown, covered with a thin blanket, half-reclined in bed reading a novel, the half-bowl of water finished, the empty bowl set beside the bed.

He left the bucket for her to soak and went out to bring the kettle in to refill her water. Looking around, he took her clothes off the chair and threw them into the washing machine, added detergent, and started it. Once everything was settled, he sat on the bed and massaged her belly over her clothes.

Girls were most vulnerable during these days; they needed extra care. If he didn’t cherish his girlfriend, who else would?

He Fang hummed contentedly with her eyes half-closed; the sleep dress was a bit of a nuisance. She wished she hadn’t bought a one-piece but rather a two-piece set—without the clothes in the way, the warmth of his hands directly on her belly would have been much comfier.

"All right, take it out."

After rubbing for nearly twenty minutes, Qin Guanglin checked his watch and tested the water temperature in the bucket before standing up to help her dry off with a towel.

"Ah, my lover." He Fang sang happily when Qin Guanglin was finished, sitting up in bed and stretching her arms toward him, "Give me a kiss."

Qin Guanglin put down the bucket and leaned in, only to be wrapped in her arms and given a firm smack.

"It’s so good to have you." He Fang gently rubbed her nose against his cheek, "Love you."

"I feel the same way." Qin Guanglin pressed his forehead against hers, swaying slightly, "It’s so good to have you."

The happiness of one is nothing compared to that of two, which is on a whole other level, known as bliss.

The washing machine was still humming on the balcony. He Fang snuggled into bed with her novel, while Qin Guanglin poured out the water and returned to the room to offer her another half-bowl to drink, then sat at the bedside and joined her in reading.

Just past ten o’clock, He Fang started to nod off, her eyelids fighting each other. She decisively put down the novel, wriggled to get comfortable, and reached for her Doraemon plush, closing her eyes and saying, "I’m going to sleep now, good night."

"Go to sleep, good night." Qin Guanglin gave her forehead a gentle peck, stood up to turn off the lights.

"Don’t turn them off yet, wait until I fall asleep before you leave." He Fang said, with her eyes still closed.

"Okay."

Qin Guanglin sat back down, smiling at the sight of her under the thin blanket.

It was like having a daughter.

"What are you laughing at?" He Fang peeked at him through a sliver of an open eye.

"I just had the illusion that it felt like taking care of a daughter." Qin Guanglin was candid.

"I see you as a boyfriend, and you want to be my dad?" He Fang rolled her eyes and wrapped herself in the blanket before closing her eyes again, "You don’t have to stay; you can go."

"I’ll wait until you fall asleep before I leave."

Qin Guanglin reached for the novel by her pillow, which they had read a third of last weekend and hadn’t finished yet, "Go to sleep."

The bedroom fell silent again. After a while, He Fang’s eyes cracked open to sneak a peek at him. She slowly reached out and pulled on his arm, drawing one of his hands under the blanket.

"What do you feel like to me now?"

"..."

Qin Guanglin blinked, "Boyfriend."

"Don’t move around; I’m really going to sleep now."

"Sleep well."

With a faint smile on her lips, He Fang closed her eyes and said nothing more. Qin Guanglin rested the book on his legs, flipping the pages with one hand, and with his other hand under the blanket, he glanced at her now and then.

At eleven, hearing He Fang’s steady breathing, he silently withdrew his hand, tiptoeing to put the book back on the desk and turned around for one last look at her before switching off the light and leaving the living room.

On the balcony, he hung the laundry from the washing machine. Seeing nothing else to do, Qin Guanglin went downstairs to his own home. After a shower, he looked outside the window and then lay down in bed.

Another fulfilling day...

Twiddling his fingers, he couldn’t help but savor the thought—ah, the scent of early summer cotton...

"I want—you by my side

I want—you to comb my hair

The night breeze blows

Tickling my heart

My lover

..."

Closing his eyes brought back He Fang’s soft, delicate singing, making Qin Guanglin’s heart melt. Opening his eyes and pondering for a moment, he reached for the cell phone by the bed to search online.

After a while, Qin Guanglin put down the phone with a frown.

He couldn’t find it.

Too obscure? That shouldn’t be...

Nevermind, he’d ask Teacher He another day, or search on the computer.
