Chapter 138: Chapter 137: Mysterious and Mysterious

Technique in art is something often understood intuitively, not something that can be conveyed through words.

It’s easy for anyone to point out faults; even laymen can spot them at a glance, but when there are no faults, it all comes down to personal interpretation.

Everyone interprets differently. The essence within each person is different; hence, the outcomes of their creations are different.

Imitating can only capture the form, not the spirit.

Qin Guanglin had a hard time dismissing Sun Wen because it wasn’t that he didn’t want to teach, but rather, he couldn’t.

He was himself trying to imitate Chen Rui’s style, attempting to decipher Chen Rui’s strokes and find a style that suited him.

Like practicing calligraphy, one typically starts by imitating famous calligraphers’ scrolls for two years. It might not be appropriate to compare Chen Rui with those masters, but in terms of comic art, he is undeniably professional.

The kumquat lemon drink in his hand slowly got consumed, making a sipping noise. Qin Guanglin casually threw the empty cup into the trash and wiped his hands with a tissue before continuing his work.

"What are you still doing here?" he asked, pausing his drawing to look at Jiang Lingling.

"I’m just admiring the master at work." Jiang Lingling swayed her unfinished bubble tea, "I’ll get back to work after I finish this."

Qin Guanglin shook his head without a word.

Learning just by watching is insufficient, he had already said this many times and was too lazy to repeat it.

"The boss, your phone seemed to vibrate just now."

After a moment, Jiang Lingling pointed at the mobile on the desk to remind him.

"Oh, thanks." Qin Guanglin dabbed on his drawing pad a few more times before picking up his phone to check a message from He Fang.

"I’ll come to your place for dinner tonight."

He replied without hesitation, "Sure, what would you like to eat? I’ll cook it for you."

"Something light would be good."

"Got it."

Knowing he was at work, He Fang didn’t elaborate further. Qin Guanglin put his phone down to think about the evening’s menu, then resumed his drawing.

After drawing a bit, he paused again, tilting his head in thought.

Yesterday, He Fang had spent the whole day lying at his place.

And she was coming over for dinner again tonight.

It seems... last month around May 20th, she had stomach pains?

Calculating the time, it was likely that, once again, she was having her period; no wonder she looked so listless yesterday.

Case closed.

Qin "Sherlock Holmes" Guanglin felt spirited, no need to run tonight!

Even if He Fang told him to go run, he could find a spot to sneak off and play a round of Dou Dizhu before heading home.

Thank Lord Creator... Wait, he wasn’t sure if she was still in pain. Qin Guanglin picked up his phone again to send her a message.

"Does your stomach hurt?"

"How did you know?" He Fang was a bit surprised.

"I know you like the back of my hand." Qin Guanglin smiled proudly.

He had spent days researching on the computer last month; it would be odd if he didn’t know. Symptoms like back pains, fatigue, irritability, etc.

Hmm, he didn’t notice the irritability, just some fatigue.

"Very thoughtful of you. Expect a mysterious surprise when you get back."

He Fang’s message made him pause—A mysterious surprise? What was that?

"What mysterious surprise?" Qin Guanglin couldn’t help but ask.

"I already told you it’s a mystery surprise, wouldn’t it cease to be a mystery if I told you?" He Fang added an eye-rolling emoji to show her disdain.

"Okay then."

"Looking forward to it?"

"Looking forward to it."

"Then come home early from work."

"Okay."

Qin Guanglin looked at the message "Come home early after work" on his phone over and over again, unable to suppress a smile.

It was as if they were living together.

A subtle sense of happiness.

He put his phone aside and continued working, his efficiency skyrocketed, swiftly completing the remaining tasks of the day and waiting eagerly for the workday to end.

At five o’clock sharp, Qin Guanglin immediately stood up and waved to Sun Wen, "Off work, I’m leaving."

"You go ahead, I need to stay a bit longer," Sun Wen was still busy with his brush, "working overtime."

"Overtime?"

Qin Guanglin felt puzzled. When did the company start needing overtime?

He leaned in to see that Sun Wen wasn’t coloring, but drafting lines on paper, so he didn’t ask any further, "Then I’m leaving."

"Yeah, go ahead," Sun Wen nodded.

With nothing much to do alone at home, and ample time to spare, he might as well stay a bit longer.

Qin Guanglin took a half-hour bus ride home, speeding up his steps the moment he got off, and upon opening the door, he saw He Fang and Qin’s Mom chatting at the table.

Qin’s Mom was holding a magnifying glass in one hand and a solid wood paperweight in the other, explaining something to He Fang, who kept nodding. Hearing Qin Guanglin entering, they both turned to look at him.

"Go cook," Qin’s Mom gestured towards the kitchen and continued focusing on her beloved paperweight.

"The groceries are in the kitchen," He Fang said, continuing to murmur to Qin’s Mom.

"..."

Qin Guanglin glanced at the two of them, feeling a chill down his spine for no apparent reason.

Why did they seem so natural?

Half delighted and half worried, he put down his bag, washed his hands in the kitchen, and started preparing the vegetables. Only after he finished washing everything and was ready to cut did He Fang end her chat with Qin’s Mom and leisurely leaned on the doorframe, smiling at him.

"What’s so funny?" Qin Guanglin couldn’t help but ask.

"The way you cook is so attractive," He Fang’s eyes curved with her smile, gently swaying as she continued, "I’ve got a crush."

"...Mom."

Qin Guanglin looked behind her and called out.

He Fang jumped, turning instinctively, only to see nobody; Qin’s Mom had already retreated to the bedroom and hadn’t come out yet.

"Are you trying to trick me?" she turned back and glared fiercely at Qin Guanglin.

"I thought you weren’t scared," Qin Guanglin chuckled secretly, "don’t worry, the door will make a sound when she comes out. Continue crushing."

"I’m not crushing; I’m supervising you to make sure you work properly."

"That... uh,"

Qin Guanglin was chopping vegetables and pondered, "It won’t always be me cooking from now on, will it?"

Judging by their recent interactions, it seemed that this might become the new routine, which wouldn’t be good.

"You think you’ll be cooking every day, and no one wants to eat it that often," He Fang wrinkled her nose.

Qin Guanglin sighed in relief, "That’s good then..."

"At most six and a half days a week, just twenty-eight days a month is enough."

"...is there any difference from doing it every day?"

"Don’t you want to do it?" He Fang saw his distressed face and couldn’t help but laugh; the poor fool took it seriously.

"I’d rather eat the dishes you cook."

"Then after you finish chopping, I’ll cook."

"No need, as long as you haven’t conspired to make me cook every day, it’s fine." Qin Guanglin felt uneasy whenever he saw them whispering together, unsure why.

"By the way, what about the surprise?" he suddenly remembered, "Let’s see how surprising it is."

"A surprise?" He Fang’s smile grew more mysterious, "You’ll have to come to my place to see it."

"Need to go to your place?" Qin Guanglin was even more eager, speeding up his actions, "Hurry up and finish the meal, I want to see what the surprise is."
