Chapter 104: Where is the Wonder?

Chapter 104: Chapter 104: Where is the Wonder?

Watching the lines on the painting fill with colors and slowly become vibrant, Qin Guanglin felt a strong sense of achievement.

This was different from creating his own work; perfecting someone else’s was a bit more challenging.

"How about that?" Qin Guanglin put down the spray gun and turned to ask Sun Wen.

"Hey, not too shabby." Sun Wen didn’t find any fault, "Why don’t you finish the remaining panels yourself?"

"I’ll grab some food first, we can talk in the afternoon." He glanced at his watch, stretched lazily, and stood up, "Just satisfying enough."

This job was more interesting than the tasks he had at hand, but he still preferred painting himself.

Chen Rui’s sketches gave Qin Guanglin some inspiration and direction. He had assumed comics were just drawing lines and then adding colors later, but now he saw that wasn’t the case.

There was a great deal to learn.

Just getting the character motions and perspective shifts right took a lot of effort; otherwise, the outcome was merely third-rate, no different from mass-produced works enhanced with filters and templates.

Tsk, no matter the field, achieving excellence is never easy.

As noon approached, the sky darkened outside, with heavy clouds stacking up as if night was falling, necessitating the lights to be turned on indoors.

"Let’s order delivery."

Sun Wen glanced outside. The drizzle had turned into a steady downpour, pouring continuously.

"Sure." Qin Guanglin had no objection; the rain was so heavy that even an umbrella couldn’t guarantee staying dry.

"Ordering with more people could get us a discount." Sun Wen pulled out a delivery menu and started organizing, "What will you have?... Yu Le, come over and pick something."

After confirming their choices, he shouted, "Anyone else ordering delivery? Come choose your meal."

"Me, Brother Wen, I’ll take noodles with sauce." Jiang Lingling hurried over to respond.

"Stir-fried peppers with egg, thanks." The copy editor from the other side chimed in.

"Let me check..." Another person put down their pen to look at the delivery menu.

With the rain continuing outside, nobody wanted to leave the studio; gradually, about a dozen people gathered around to place lunch orders, planning to have delivery for the midday meal.

"Hey, ordering food? Add a portion for me too." Boss Chen Rui came out of his office and instantly noticed everyone gathered around ordering, "I’ll treat everyone for lunch today, Sun Wen you order first, then see me to reconcile."

"Sure thing!" Sun Wen’s eyebrows lifted, and he broke into a smile, "Thanks, boss!"

"Thanks, boss!"

"Boss is awesome... Brother Wen, I’ll change mine to rice with garlic pork."

"Tsk, crafty."

Chen Rui chuckled and turned back to his office.

"Lin, are you making any changes? I’m ordering now." Sun Wen noted everyone’s choices and grabbed his phone to make the call.

"Go ahead."

Qin Guanglin responded from his seat and then got up and walked to the window to look down.

From the eighth floor, raindrops hit the windows with a tinkle, and pedestrians with umbrellas moved along the road like little mushrooms, creating a colorful spread.

Gazing into the distance, he could vaguely make out the shape of Luo River through the curtain of rain, not as clear as during the day but just a rough outline.

If painted...

"What are you looking at, big shot?" Jiang Lingling also approached the window, her words interrupting his thoughts.

"Nothing much."

Qin Guanglin gave a noncommittal response, still visualizing scenes in his mind as he watched the rain outside.

Mountains, water, rain, pedestrians.

Balancing these four elements...

"I just checked the stats. Over the weekend, the second issue of the comic reached over a hundred thousand views, with tens of thousands of likes..." Jiang Lingling was somewhat excited, "It’s even better than the first issue."

Indeed, this style easily provoked comments, then likes and shares followed; thus, all the stats were very good.

"Yeah, keep it up."

Qin Guanglin responded absent-mindedly, paused for a moment, then turned his head and tapped his temple, "I’m thinking right now. If you’re free, maybe start working on the third issue."

"Ah, sorry," Jiang Lingling stuck out her tongue, "I’ll stop talking."

She wondered what was so fascinating about the rain outside... and she seemed so absorbed in it. Curious, she glanced outside, then back at Qin Guanglin.

Is this the weird habit of a big boss?

Scary... no, rather stylish.

A serious man is the most handsome, and it’s not without reason. Jiang Lingling secretly admired Qin Guanglin’s profile and couldn’t help but purse her lips.

Qin Guanglin was watching the rain and didn’t notice Jiang Lingling gazing at him. After sketching a rough framework in his mind while watching the rain in the distance, he closed his eyes to savor the moment, then turned and went to his seat to fetch a brush and sketch out a draft.

Better jot down the current ideas, and start painting when he got home.

Otherwise, pursuing personal projects during work hours would be too unreasonable.

"Dinner’s here."

Brother Wen entered with everyone’s takeout, just as Qin Guanglin had put down his pen.

"Thanks, Brother Wen."

"Brother Wen, you worked hard."

Those near the door first greeted him and took the takeaway bags from his hands, placing them on the table, "Who ordered this?"

"Shredded pork in garlic sauce, who ordered this?"

"Mixed noodles..."

"Stir-fried pepper and eggs, whose is this..."

"This one’s mine."

"My mixed noodles."

Soon, everyone had their ordered meals and gathered in small groups to start eating.

Brother Wen took Chen Rui’s meal to the office then came out and joined Yu Le and Qin Guanglin, taking a big satisfying bite of his meal, "Ah, finally I can enjoy a hearty meal."

"You’re not missing this bit," Qin Guanglin scoffed, with the beef in chopped chili being only around thirty yuan, Brother Wen acted as if he was savoring a steak worth hundreds.

"It’s different, it hurts to spend on oneself, but it feels great when the boss treats," Brother Wen grinned mischievously, "If I ate this every day, it’d cost me over a thousand a month. I can’t afford it."

"You could if you broke up with your girlfriend."

"Come on, why don’t you break up?" Brother Wen was displeased.

"My girlfriend isn’t like yours," Qin Guanglin tugged at his clothes, "Look, she bought this."

"Okay, okay, don’t show off here."

"Did you guys fight again?"

"We had a small argument on Saturday, but we made up over the weekend." Brother Wen was candid, "Honestly, the more we fight, the deeper our love grows."

"I’ve never heard that before." Qin Guanglin frowned, then turned to Yu Le and asked, "Do you believe that?"

"Uh... I don’t know," Yu Le glanced at them, "I’ve never had a girlfriend."

Brother Wen suddenly perked up, "Should I introduce you to someone?"

"..."

Yu Le was about to agree but then hesitated looking at Brother Wen, "Maybe not."

"Let him introduce someone, see if it’s true that fights deepen a relationship," Qin Guanglin teased.

"No thanks, I’m good being single," Yu Le decided firmly after a moment of hesitation, "Very good."

"A single dog, you don’t understand the perks of a girlfriend," Brother Wen scoffed.

"A perk is not being able to afford meals?" Qin Guanglin asked.

"..."

"Haha... cough... you don’t understand... cough, cough..." Yu Le, caught off guard, choked and covered his mouth as he coughed twice, "You don’t understand the perks of being single."

"Are there perks?" Brother Wen asked.

"Where’s the perk?" Qin Guanglin also asked.

"..."
