Chapter 888: Chapter 889: Always Tracking Her

Cheng Yu’s gaze slowly swept across the room, inspecting the cabinet, behind the curtains, and the corners—no one was there.

Eventually, her attention settled on the window, where she examined the traces left by something used to pry it open.

Although the bed had been made, the pattern of the sheets had changed from before.

Cheng Yu had a mild case of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

So she remembered many small details very clearly and would repeatedly confirm them in her mind.

All of this indicated that someone had been in her room.

The purpose, for the time being, was unknown!

One thing was certain, the person hadn’t come for money.

Because her luggage was in order, and her wallet was on the table, untouched.

They must have come specifically for her.

The intruder probably didn’t want her to know of their existence yet, but seemed unable to suppress some inner urgency.

This was a contradiction!

Cheng Yu simply opened the window; after all, this pane of glass could no longer stop the other’s entry.

The night wind blew in through the window, rustling the poplar trees across the street.

Cheng Yu brewed herself a cup of coffee, her gaze drifting into the distance as she pondered.

Under the poplar tree, a person stood silently staring at Cheng Yu.

After a long while, perhaps tired, or perhaps agitated, he shifted his numb legs and fished a cigarette from his jacket pocket, lighting it for himself.

The red glow flickered on and off in the darkness.

That caught Cheng Yu’s attention.

Lately, the bullet sometimes pressed against her optic nerve. At night she couldn’t see very clearly, so she hadn’t even noticed someone standing opposite her window the whole time.

"Who are you?" Although she couldn’t make out the other’s features, intuition told Cheng Yu that he was the man who had visited her room.

Hearing Cheng Yu’s voice, he stepped out from the shadows and stood under her window.

"Why do you always enter my room? Do I know you?" Cheng Yu asked the figure in a low voice.

"Whether you recognize me or not is up to you," the man said, then tossed away his cigarette.

He glanced at the third floor once, then stepped back several times and abruptly leaped up, scaling the wall to reach the third floor.

His movements were fluid.

Such skills could only belong to reconnaissance soldiers within the country.

When the man stood before Cheng Yu,

she finally saw his face clearly, as memories rapidly flipped through her mind.

Her pupils suddenly dilated, "How could it be you? You’ve been following me these days."

The man said nothing.

"Leave! I’ve made myself clear enough before," Cheng Yu said with a detached expression.

"Do the words from a few years ago still count?" the man rarely spoke up.

"They count. Now leave!"

The man glanced at Cheng Yu, "Being too fixated isn’t good for you."

Cheng Yu lifted her lips in a cold smile, "And for you?"

Without a word, the man turned and approached the window. He deftly climbed onto the sill and leapt down from the third story.

Afterward, he vanished into the town’s alleys.

Cheng Yu turned and went to the bathroom, turned on the tap, and splashed water on her face, trying to wash away her restless emotions.

After a while, she calmed down.

In the grand scheme of things, everything is predestined.

She didn’t want to think too much about it; she just needed to arrange the affairs of the next few days.

After she succeeded, she would leave.
