Chapter 849: Uninvited
Chapter 849: Chapter 849: Uninvited
"Alright then, it’s just that you’re being put out again," Qin Jian said with a pang of distress.
"These are all trifles. If I make it delicious, won’t you be able to enjoy your meal too?" As long as Qin Jian could eat well, that was worth more than anything.
An Hao busied herself in the kitchen using every cooking technique—sautéing, stir-frying, boiling, and deep-frying—for two to three hours before finally finishing a table full of dishes.
Today was a feast of fish, with braised fish, sweet and sour fish, clear-broth fish, fish slices in soy sauce, and boiled fish. The lively Xiaohe shrimp were all cleaned by An Hao, dipped in batter, and fried; a steaming pot of rice was cooking in the pot.
Since there were many people at home and only one table, Li Zecheng had two little warriors fetch his own table from his house.
The moment Xin Ni heard about the fish feast upstairs, she drooled with craving.
Zhang Guifang was going to Sister Mei Ying’s house for dinner and wouldn’t care about her at all, so Xin Ni simply decided to join the meal upstairs as well.
Xin Ni followed the little warrior upstairs to eat. Seeing An Hao, she smiled sweetly, "I’ve heard Sister-in-Law is an excellent cook, so I shamelessly came up for a meal. You don’t mind, do you?"
Seeing Xin Ni also coming up, Li Zecheng felt awkward, thinking it looked bad on him. He had brought these warriors over to Qin Jian’s house for a meal, and now someone from his own family was running up to partake as well—it really was quite embarrassing.
"Xin Ni, don’t come over. Go back home and have your Sister-in-Law cook you something," he said.
Xin Ni looked down at her hands and said with a hurt tone, "Sister Mei Ying pulled my Sister-in-Law away, and I can’t cook with these hands..."
"Your Sister-in-Law really! That’s a bit too much! I’ll speak to her when I get back! Or, just stay here, but it means troubling Sister An Hao again," Li Zecheng said.
"The food I’ve made, she probably can’t eat," An Hao didn’t want to entertain this ungrateful person, especially one who harbored ill intentions towards her, provoking conflict with every word from her mouth.
"Sister-in-Law, listen to you! Why wouldn’t I be able to eat your cooking? Could it be that you’re stingy and don’t want me to eat?" Xin Ni’s smile was only a third genuine, hiding malice underneath.
An Hao was disgusted by being called Sister-in-Law again and again. She was only twenty years old, while Xin Ni was already in her late twenties calling her Sister-in-Law.
Even though it was through Qin Jian’s side, it still made her feel extremely disgusted.
"You have an injury on your hand, and seafood can cause inflammation! If you think you can eat it, then go ahead!" An Hao fulfilled her responsibility of warning her.
She wouldn’t go out of her way to hurt anyone! But if others tried to harm her, she would retaliate twofold!
"Ah? If that’s the case, I suppose I can’t eat it?" Xin Ni said regretfully, "How about this? Sister-in-Law, can you trouble yourself to fry a different dish for me?"
An Hao almost exploded with anger upon hearing this. In the sweltering heat, she’d just finished cooking a table full of food and now she was expected to cook another dish for her.
"Xin Ni, there are leftovers at home! Go back and reheat them," Li Zecheng, now feeling embarrassed, tried to send Xin Ni away.
"Brother, you get to eat fish, and I have to eat leftovers..." It was clear she was stubbornly refusing to leave.
"It’s fine," Qin Jian said, looking down to An Hao, "didn’t you pickle some small salted vegetables earlier? They tasted really good. Bring them out for Xin Ni to eat!"
He then said to Li Zecheng, "I’m sorry, but we really don’t have any more dishes available." He wasn’t about to make his daughter-in-law busy herself further.
"I’m the one who should apologize! Really put you out," Li Zecheng said with embarrassment.
An Hao went to the kitchen to get the salted vegetables, and Xin Ni followed her in with a swish.
