Chapter 845: Chapter 845: Accidental Eavesdropping
"I encountered a special situation yesterday," An Hao recounted to Yan Ye what had happened at the county hospital, including the surgery she had personally performed on a patient.
While Yan Ye was taken aback, he expressed his immense relief.
Of all the students he had instructed, she was the most outstanding; as she continued in this manner, she was destined to become an excellent surgeon.
From the very first time he met her, he had admired her composure, her ability to adapt spontaneously, and the decisiveness she exhibited when handling affairs.
Yan Ye praised her without any stinginess, confirmed her actions before the entire medical team, and called upon everyone to learn from her.
After the patient was out of danger, his family brought a silk banner to the health clinic to express their gratitude for An Hao’s life-saving grace.
For a time, An Hao became a celebrity at the clinic.
Where there is admiration, there naturally arises jealousy.
Colleagues from the same health team whispered amongst themselves about the incident.
"There’s a reason why Teacher Yan appreciates An Hao, it’s quite unexpected for someone so young to be so knowledgeable."
"The key is she’s willing to learn."
"It’s just a stroke of luck. Had things not gone well, I’m sure the situation would be very different right now."
"Exactly. Even Teacher Cheng said before we went out that the patient wouldn’t last long. It seems that the heavens are really looking out for her."
"To think that a patient who wasn’t expected to last long was brought back by her—it goes to show that she really is skilled. Stop being sour because you can’t eat the grapes."
As they were engaged in their varied discussions, a new patient arrived at the free clinic.
As soon as she sat down, one of the medical team’s senior colleagues greeted her.
"What’s your name?"
"Xin Ni."
"What seems to be the problem?"
Xin Ni pointed to her scalded right hand and said, "My hand was burnt, and I wanted to come in to change the dressing."
The army’s medical unit had run out of burn medication, so she had to come to the town health clinic for her dressing change today.
"I’m sorry. We don’t have burn medication here either. You can go to the burns department on the second floor; they should have some there."
"Alright," Xin Ni replied, somewhat disappointed.
She had heard that treatment was free here and had hoped to save on medical expenses, only to find that they had no medicine available.
So she had no choice but to go to the second floor to change her dressing, where the doctor told her that if she took good care of it, her hand might not be scarred, but if not, her right hand would definitely be marred.
The scars left by burns and scalds were too ugly and terrifying. Thinking about how her originally soft and fair hands might become so hideous and frightening, Xin Ni felt terribly upset.
In her heart, she began to resent An Hao, seething with anger, yet powerless to do anything.
Coming down from the second floor, Xin Ni was about to leave the first floor when she overheard voices coming from the end of the corridor around the corner.
She paused, and the voices became clearer.
One of them sounded familiar, like it could be An Hao’s voice.
"Teacher Cheng, I’m returning your most cherished item! Make sure you take good care of it."
"Is this your doing, or is it Qin Jian’s?"
"It is both my wish and Qin Jian’s! He doesn’t want you to disturb our peaceful life anymore! Teacher Cheng, take care of yourself!"
The conversation abruptly ended, followed by footsteps. Fearing that An Hao might spot her, Xin Ni quickly retreated back to the stairs leading to the second floor, turning her body to face the wall.
