Chapter 833: Chapter 833: The Most Critical Link on the Clue Chain

Qin Jian frowned, his body shifting backward slightly, putting distance so that Cheng Yu couldn’t lean against his chest. He then said, "Ms. Cheng, should I take you to the infirmary?"

"No! No need! Let’s go home. This is a sequelae of the bullet entering the brain, incurable unless the bullet is removed," Cheng Yu said with her eyes closed and a bitter tone, "Actually, I could have completely avoided being hurt. I heard that the company commander I had been searching for got injured by a bomb at the enemy’s position. In my haste, I stood up and ran to where he was injured, and that’s how I got hit by two bullets."

"You were too reckless! You violated a taboo on the battlefield. Not only did you not save your comrade, but you also put yourself at risk. This is no one’s fault but your own." Qin Jian finished speaking and told Cheng Yu, "Let me help you sit by the roadside for a while! I’ll go find a car to take you back."

"No need! I’ll take her!" An Hao, braving the scorching sun, walked over. She hadn’t heard the conversation between the two but had been watching Cheng Yu’s behavior from a distance.

She saw Cheng Yu faint, saw the deliberate distance Qin Jian maintained between them.

"How did you get here?" Qin Jian turned his head to look at An Hao.

"I was planning to wander around town, but I didn’t expect you guys hadn’t even made it out yet. You’re slower than someone who left after you," An Hao said with a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.

Qin Jian nodded, "You keep her company for a bit. I’ll go find a car. You take Ms. Cheng back and then come back by car!"

"Sure," An Hao readily agreed.

An Hao helped Cheng Yu sit down and let her head rest on her shoulder without saying a word.

She waited for Cheng Yu to speak to her.

But Cheng Yue remained silent as well, eyes closed the whole time.

When the car arrived, Cheng Yu’s eyes could barely open, and she was too dizzy to stand steadily.

Qin Jian sighed softly and moved forward to help but was pushed away by An Hao, "Aren’t you supposed to be going to the training field? You go! I’ll take Ms. Cheng back."

Qin Jian understood the meaning behind An Hao’s actions, the corners of his mouth slightly upturned, "Okay. See you tonight."

The car sped down the road.

The interior of the car was deathly silent.

They arrived at the town government’s shabby guesthouse, where they were to stay.

An Hao escorted Cheng Yu back to her room, then asked softly, "Ms. Cheng, are you feeling any better?"

"Hmm," Cheng Yu slowly opened her eyes, "A bit better. An Hao, help me to the bathroom."

"Okay." An Hao aided Cheng Yu into the bathroom and then turned to make her bed. While grabbing a pillow, she accidentally knocked a book off the bedside table.

She bent down to pick the book up. It was a copy of the Western novel "Jane Eyre."

An Hao casually flipped through it, but unexpectedly, something fell out from between the pages. Bending down to look, the object that dropped onto the floor was a red maple leaf.

Maple leaves! Maple leaves!!

Seeing this maple leaf, it was like being struck by lightning. Her previously muddled brain suddenly cleared.

The flying clues finally snapped the key piece into place!

It turned out, the maple leaf that had been sent to her house the day after her wedding was her own doing! Suddenly, An Hao felt a chill down her spine, the woman before her was too terrifying!

Compared to her scheming, Song Yueqin was nothing but trash!

A whole year!

That red maple leaf had troubled her for a whole year, and she never would have guessed it was sent by Cheng Yu!!
