Chapter 618: Chapter 618: Great Devotion
An Hao was preparing to start cooking at home. The vegetables were ready at home; all she needed to do was to go to the butcher’s to buy three pounds of meat.
Erzhuzi and Liu Xiaolian both loved meat, and seeing the braised pork An Hao cooked made their mouths water.
Usually, it was An Hao who cooked while Qin Jian stoked the fire, but today, these two took on the task of adding wood and maintaining the fire.
An Ping came back from picking vegetables in the small family garden and was speechless for a long time as he watched these two brown-nosing, fanning the flames, and offering towels to wipe sweat for An Hao.
"Can you two show some ambition? Is it necessary to go to all this trouble just for a meal?"
"Of course it isn’t necessary for you. Sister An Hao is your real sister; you can eat whenever you want to. But we don’t have that good fortune," Erzhuzi said.
In the past two years, these two hadn’t managed to get into school and spent a year doing odd jobs that didn’t pay well and were quite tiring.
They had also heard that An Ping had made a fortune growing vegetables at home, so they came back to seek refuge with An Ping.
They never expected to be able to eat the food cooked by An Hao just a few days after arriving.
Having lived in poverty for the past two years, the times were tough, and the pig intestines noodles and wild vegetable and pork dumplings An Hao had made for them were still unforgettable.
An Ping thought about it, and indeed, his sister’s cooking skills were beyond reproach.
He secretly thought to himself that when he got married in the future, he must find a wife who was a good cook, so he could enjoy delicious meals every day.
The more Erzhuzi and Liu Xiaolian treasured this meal, the harder they tried to suck up.
"Sister An Hao, have a drink of water. Don’t get thirsty," one said.
"Sister An Hao, why don’t you sit down to chop the vegetables, standing might be too tiring," added the other.
An Ping couldn’t stand it anymore and turned to Qin Jian, who had been watching them work from the door, "Brother-in-law, aren’t you going to kick them out for hovering around your wife and fawning over her like this?"
Qin Jian smiled, "I think they are cooperating quite well."
At the very least, his wife wouldn’t be thirsty or hungry.
He didn’t have to do any work himself, just stand by as the supervisor.
As the dishes were served, An Shuchao came home and was overjoyed to see his daughter and son-in-law had returned, his face beaming with happiness.
He quickly fetched the two bottles of good wine from the house; today, he wanted to have a few drinks with his son-in-law.
"Dad, Qin Jian brought back quite a few good things from the Northwest for you this time. But you know, the main reason we came back was to bring his foster father home. So in the rush, we didn’t have time to bring your things out. I’ll bring them to you when I come back next week," An Hao said casually as she brought over the dishes.
"Good, good, good," An Shuchao was beside himself with joy. Having his daughter married to such a good man brought him good fortune too.
Though he was a bit older, he was extremely considerate toward An Hao.
The table was full of fragrant dishes.
An Shuchao was exceptionally happy today and kept drinking with Qin Jian one cup after another, and An Ping and his two buddies joined in for a few drinks as well.
They couldn’t hold their liquor and soon became tipsy and collapsed.
Qin Jian then realized that An Hao’s excellent tolerance for alcohol must have come from her father.
After the two bottles of wine were finished, An Shuchao’s face was red and his ears were hot, but his eyes sparked with intensity.
He took Qin Jian’s hand and began to open his box of heart-to-heart talks, "Qin Jian, it’s been about a year since you two got married, right? It’s time to have a child. You are also in your thirties, not getting any younger. There are some things you can’t leave to An Hao. That girl has been strong-willed since she was young. If you listen to her, you won’t be a father even at thirty-five."
