Chapter 608: Chapter 608: Swearing in the Name of a Soldier
"Is this appropriate?" Qin Ru Hai looked at the sour dates with concern, "Do they really need this to eat?"
"Trust me. It’s right!" Li Junping was confident.
Back then, she heard from her sister Li Yueping that Qin Jian’s biological mother, during her confinement, mentioned that her favorite food was the sour dates from the mountains.
Qin Jian also loved to eat this as a child.
Like mother, like son, their preferences were even the same.
"Alright then. Anyway, it’s for Jianzi. If the child likes to eat it, that’s all that matters," Qin Ru Hai said and then stood up, ready to head out the door with the sour dates.
Taking advantage of the midday lull, he left them at the Ning Family’s doorstep, confident that Qin Jian would surely understand his gesture.
..............................
October’s weather had gradually cooled, but the sunshine was still warm and the breeze mild, An Hao walked arm in arm with Qin Jian on the street, occasionally drawing envious glances that made her feel quite blessed.
She looked up at her husband Qin Jian, tall and straight-bodied, with handsome, picturesque features, and his green military uniform made him exceptionally striking.
Feeling An Hao’s gaze, Qin Jian looked down and saw his little wife staring at him with a face full of happiness, which made him chuckle lightly, "You’re staring at me so intently, it’s going to make me think you’re up to something."
An Hao bit her lower lip and chuckled, her eyes catching a leaf drifting down from the sky, which suddenly reminded her of the maple leaf incident.
"Qin Jian, I want to ask you. Before you met me, did you also experience a similarly wonderful love?"
Qin Jian paused, mildly surprised, "Why do you ask such a thing?"
"I just want to know. Whether you’ve ever had a love affair or not."
"I haven’t. I can swear on my honor as a soldier," Qin Jian stated very seriously.
An Hao’s gaze lingered on his face for a moment, feeling that he truly didn’t seem to be lying, so she let the matter go.
After all, Qin Jian didn’t know who would send him such a baffling letter.
Perhaps it was someone close by, coveting him, trying to disrupt their peaceful life.
For now, she wasn’t going to delve into it, but if another strange letter arrived, she was determined to unmask that person.
Whatever their motive might be!
"I believe you," An Hao said with a smile, "I’m just worried about who knows what birds might be eyeing you, trying to snatch you away from me."
Qin Jian smiled and playfully rubbed her nose, "Silly girl! Military marriages are protected! What are you afraid of?"
"Stop it, you’re not allowed to touch my nose."
It was around noon, and the fragrance of food started to waft out from the restaurants on both sides of the street.
Qin Jian’s stomach was also growling with hunger, and upon hearing the sounds, An Hao laughed, "Let’s go. We’ll go to the market to buy some ingredients. I’ll make you braised fish for lunch."
Qin Jian nodded with a smile, "Okay."
Not far from their home was a vegetable market they would pass through on the way to the military district compound.
An Hao and Qin Jian went to buy fish, hand in hand.
The market was bustling, and the crowd jostled Qin Jian and An Hao to the side of a vegetable stand, where An Hao accidentally stepped on someone’s foot.
An Hao quickly apologized.
Turning around, she saw that the person she had stepped on was Zhang Yun on her way to buy vegetables.
"What brings you two here?" Zhang Yun was surprised to see her son and daughter-in-law at the market.
"Buying fish. I’m making braised fish for lunch for everyone," An Hao explained.
"The fish vendor is over there," Zhang Yun pointed them in the right direction, and An Hao stood on tiptoes to look and indeed saw the fish stall.
So, she and Qin Jian headed towards the fish vendor.
They had just taken a few steps when Zhang Yun called out to them, "Wait for me, I’ll finish buying vegetables and join you. I need to pick out a big fish for lunch today."
