Chapter 493: Chapter 493 Vigilance
In the hospital ward.
An Hao lay on the hospital bed, having been severely weakened by bouts of vomiting and diarrhea, but after being hooked up to an IV, she felt much better. Thus, her eyelids grew heavy, and she drifted hazily into dreamland.
When she woke up, she saw Yan Ye sitting by her side.
He was nodding off, his head drooping repeatedly, almost hitting the edge of the bed several times, which also tugged at An Hao’s heartstrings.
He had told his students during class that he had performed surgeries for the entire day, standing for a total of fourteen hours, apart from having some water and a dinner.
He advised his students that the morning exercises should be taken seriously because a surgeon, in particular, needs to have a very strong body.
"Teacher Yan, if you’re tired, you should go back," An Hao said, feeling both concerned for him and a bit guilty.
He had indeed indicated that he had feelings for her, but since Qin Jian had left and the new term had begun, as a teacher, aside from showing her some favoritism in her studies, he had not taken any improper actions in his personal conduct toward her.
Just as he said, his care and help were the natural actions of a teacher assisting a student, like last week when Lei Linxuan lost her textbook and Teacher Yan replaced it with a new one.
Perhaps it was her own defensive nature that was too strong, which was why she always viewed Yan Ye as someone to be respected from a distance.
Yan Ye woke up and vigorously rubbed his face, "What’s the matter? Afraid people will gossip?"
No sooner had his words faded than Ning Yibin and his wife pushed the door open and came in.
Seeing them arrive so late surprised An Hao greatly, "Dad, Mom, why are you here?"
"Didn’t Yan Ye call us to say you were sick, in the hospital getting an IV? Your dad and I rushed over," Zhang Yun said, her heart aching at the sight of An Hao’s pale little face.
Their son, when he left, had entrusted his wife to them.
And now his wife was so ill that she looked haggard. If their son, Qin Jian, knew, he would’ve been very distressed.
When An Hao heard her mother-in-law say this, she glanced at Yan Ye with gratitude, "Thank you, Teacher Yan."
"No need to thank me," said Yan Ye as he went to the restroom to wash his face. He picked up his coat hanging on the rack, ready to leave, "Uncle, Auntie, I’m heading out."
"Okay, be careful on your way. Thank you, Xiaoye, come over to our place for a meal some time," Ning Yibin said, patting Yan Ye on the shoulder.
An Hao’s IV drip continued until late, and no matter what she said, Zhang Yun and Ning Yibin would not allow her to return to school.
Therefore, An Hao had no choice but to go home with them.
The next day, An Hao took a sick leave and rested at home.
Zhang Yun, seeing that An Hao had gotten skinny, felt very sorry for her and went to the market to buy an old hen to make soup for her.
An Hao lay in the bedroom on the second floor, looking out the window at the white poplar tree sprouting tender green branches, and her thoughts inevitably turned to Qin Jian.
His presence lingered everywhere in the room; as soon as she closed her eyes, he filled her dreams.
Just as she lay in bed, longing for Qin Jian, Zhang Yun came up with the soup and held several letters in her hand.
"Here, An Hao, drink the chicken soup." Zhang Yun was a truly wonderful mother-in-law. She not only cherished An Hao as a daughter-in-law but also doted on her as her own daughter, always putting An Hao’s needs first.
"Thank you, Mom!" An Hao took the chicken soup and was drinking when Zhang Yun handed her the envelopes, "A few days ago, several letters arrived at once, most of them written by Qin Jian to you. There was also a strange one mixed in, a letter addressed to Qin Jian but we don’t know who sent it."
An Hao set down the soup bowl and took all the letters. After seeing the one addressed to Qin Jian, without hesitation she tore open the envelope.
