A blade arrived in the envelope—could the implication be any clearer?

Someone was obviously threatening him!

Previously, afraid that An Hao would worry, he had secretly tipped the blade out and casually put it in his pocket.

Since there was a sentinel on duty, he couldn’t just discard the blade on the ground where it could be found. If the sentinel picked it up and gave it to him, An Hao would naturally see it and would surely be worried.

He didn’t want An Hao to worry, so he quietly slipped the blade into his own pocket.

Yet, after he walked out of the compound, he somehow forgot about it, and the blade had remained in his pocket ever since.

Qin Jian glanced at the coat rack; his military uniform that hung there was gone, certainly taken by An Hao to wash.

She must have found something in his pocket and taken it out. He just didn’t know whether she paid any attention to the blade or if she would ask about it.

Qin Jian sat down, turned on the desk lamp to brighten the room a bit, and then looked carefully at the blade.

Clearly, the blade was just a common one with nothing special about it, except he didn’t know who had sent it.

How interesting—it was first a maple leaf with a red hue, and then a blade was sent.

He couldn’t figure out what the sender was thinking.

They knew his identity and still sent a blade—what did that really mean?

Qin Jian scoured his mind but was at a loss; however, he wasn’t worried or frightened. His life was simple, and he couldn’t recall doing wrong by anyone.

Even if someone bore a grudge against him, he wasn’t afraid.

He was concerned about An Hao, though. Once he saw her, he would have to warn her carefully.

Qin Jian stood up, tossed the blade into the trash can, then washed his face and went downstairs.

An Hao had also just hung the clothes up in the courtyard and came inside. Seeing Qin Jian descend, she asked about the blade she found, "Why would you keep a blade in your pocket? I was about to do the laundry when I discovered it. Aren’t you afraid of tearing the pocket of your uniform?"

"Is the cut serious?" Qin Jian took An Hao’s chilled hand, seeing how washing clothes in cold water had turned her hands red, he couldn’t help but feel distressed, especially seeing the wound on her fingertip, he felt even more concerned, "You got hurt and still did the laundry; weren’t you afraid the cold water would make the wound worse?"

Having said that, he took both her hands and tucked them inside his sweater.

An Hao’s hands were icy cold, touching his warm skin and immediately, a surge of heat was transferred.

She felt much warmer now, while the temperature of Qin Jian’s skin decreased quite a bit.

"Aren’t you cold?" asked An Hao, trying to withdraw her hands during their conversation.

But Qin Jian held her hands firm, not letting her move, "Let’s get your hands thoroughly warmed up before you take them out, and don’t worry about me. In the military, we often do our training shirtless in winter, smearing our bodies with bone-chilling snow before starting to run. In the mornings, we always shower with cold water, so this bit of chill is nothing to me."

"That’s why I admire you the most. You are really amazing," An Hao said with sincere praise.

Once her hands were warm, An Hao went to the kitchen to serve Qin Jian a bowl of thin porridge, sitting across from him at the dining table to watch him eat.

After taking a couple of bites, Qin Jian spoke to An Hao, "Be a bit more careful when you go out these days. With the year-end approaching, the city’s public security isn’t great. We want to celebrate the New Year, but so do the thieves. Stay away from anyone suspicious."

"During this holiday, I want to stick by your side. Wherever you go, I’ll be there; I won’t be moving around on my own," said An Hao, reaching out and holding Qin Jian’s hand, "After the New Year, you will leave, and our time together is so brief. I can’t bear to be without you!"
