"What’s there to thank me for?" Zhang Lanxiang laughed looking at An Hao, "In my opinion, you should get married as soon as you’re of age. Qin Jian isn’t young anymore; men his age are married with children old enough to send for soy sauce."

"Mhm," An Hao nodded with a smile, "we’ve agreed, as soon as I’m of age, we will go get our marriage certificate."

"That’s the spirit," Zhang Lanxiang said, holding An Hao’s hand, "Let’s go home. I’ll make you something delicious."

On the way, An Hao bought quite a lot of fruit.

Upon reaching home, Zhang Lanxiang made her way to the kitchen to cook, but An Hao stopped her, "Sister-in-law, may I please ask a favor of you?"

"What is it?" Zhang Lanxiang replied, munching on a tomato while handing one to An Hao.

An Hao took a bite of the tomato and said, "Sister-in-law, I’ll cook. Could you help me figure out how to make jeans? Is it difficult? Could you help me draw a design?"

This was because the clothing factory in their village wasn’t state-owned but owned by a wealthy boss.

It was a private enterprise.

The boss, a tailor from out of town, had settled down after the national land reforms when some regions distributed land to households early, after which families began to farm their own land.

However, he had an accident, injuring his back, which prevented him from doing heavy work.

So he heeded the government’s call to go into business and started as a tailor. Now, having made a name for himself, he had opened a garment factory.
