Chapter 248: Chapter 246: Commander Qin’s Wedding
Li Junping was anxious that her son’s marriage was still unsettled. Initially, upon seeing An Hao, she had thought that even though the family was poor, the child was decent. If Qin Jian was interested, she would have someone speak to the An Family on his behalf later.
But before she could act, Song Yueqin appeared on the scene.
She was quite satisfied with Song Yueqin’s family background, and the girl was also quite pretty. However, the incident where the mother and daughter splashed manure at someone else’s doorstep displeased Qin Ru Hai.
He said he’d rather have a poor child than one with poor character.
Qin Jian, on the other hand, also didn’t see Song Yueqin in a good light; and so that matter had passed. Li Junping was worried about whether or not to approach the An Family for a marriage proposal when another candidate emerged: a military officer’s daughter.
This was a huge cause for celebration!
If Qin Jian could really marry the daughter of a city leader, wouldn’t he have powerful support at work in the future? Who knew how high he might climb in rank?
Before she could even start dreaming, she heard that Qin Jian wasn’t interested in the officer’s daughter and only wanted to be with An Hao. Can you imagine how furious and aggrieved she felt?
Upon learning this, Liu Junping went to where Qin Jian worked, but after several attempts, she couldn’t find him—he was either out in the mountains or at meetings.
She knew her son was avoiding her.
Did he think she had no way to deal with him if she didn’t come back?
Finally, on the weekend, she sent Qin Feng to find Qin Jian at work, telling him that Qin Ru Hai was sick and to come home to see him.
Qin Jian arrived carrying fruits and pastries, and as soon as he entered, he ran into Li Junping, who was standing in the courtyard waiting to block him.
"Mom, what’s wrong with Dad? Qin Feng only mentioned that Dad was sick but didn’t elaborate," Qin Jian asked.
"Fengfeng, go lock the door," Li Junping ordered, fearing that Qin Jian might turn around and leave without a word, so she had Qin Feng lock the two of them inside.
Seeing what was happening, Qin Jian realized what was going on and, unable to help a bitter smile, set down his things and pulled a stool from the courtyard to sit down on it. "Mom, I’m not leaving today. If you have something to say, let’s settle it today."
"Good. That’s exactly what I wanted to hear," Li Junping said, sitting opposite Qin Jian. "I won’t beat around the bush; let’s get to the point. Marriage is a serious matter, and I hope you’ll be cautious. I think the city leader’s daughter is better than An Hao, and I hope you’ll choose her instead."
"The woman I like is An Hao, not Liang Manman," Qin Jian stated his position very clearly.
"What does it matter whether you like someone or not? Whether you dislike them or not? Do you think Liang Manman isn’t as pretty as An Hao? I’m telling you, women are all the same; turn off the lights at night in bed, and you’ll see there’s no difference between the ugly and the beautiful."
"What I need is a life partner who can be with me through life. She’s not only my wife but also my soulmate. Mom, do you understand what I’m saying?" The moment Qin Jian saw An Hao, he had this thought.
He felt she was the one he needed!
"I disagree," Li Junping said firmly on the matter of choosing a partner. "With Liang Manman, a city leader’s daughter, as your father-in-law, wouldn’t you soar through the ranks with ease?"
Qin Jian frowned, visibly repulsed by his mother’s mercenary attitude, "If that’s your attitude, I have even more reason to refuse. My marriage is not a transaction! Mom, just give up on this idea."
Having said that, Qin Jian walked towards the exit.
Outside, Qin Feng had locked the door and wouldn’t let Qin Jian out. A minor nuisance like this couldn’t stop him; so he stepped back a few paces and, with a sprint, scaled the over two-meter-high wall with his bare hands, and jumped down from the peach tree outside the wall without looking back and walked away.
