Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s
Chapter 1548: Stop Wasting Time

Chapter 1548: Chapter 1548: Stop Wasting Time

An Ping’s vegetable wholesale company was situated in the city area, amidst one of its more bustling districts.

The rent here was very expensive, but there were also a lot of people.

Even better, the area where his company was located could be considered a small business circle in this city. Here you had vegetable and seafood companies, and just two streets over, you’d find karaoke bars, disco halls, and cafés.

The remarkable thing about this circle was that it was a place where the wealthy intersected with the poor.

It was common to see vegetable stall owners having bought their produce wholesale from An Ping’s company, then hauling it past that street which would be bustling with traffic come nightfall.

In the late 1980s, with economic reform and opening up, there was already a rapid upwards trend in the economy.

Therefore, people had an abundance of leisure activities to enjoy in their free time after meals. Similarly, the gap between the rich and poor had already started to emerge.

The drop-off point was about a five-minute walk from the company. An Ping sauntered home alone.

He hadn’t gone far when he ran into Erzhuzi and Liu Xiaolian, both dressed up to the nines—slicking back their hair, dressed in cowboy outfits, wearing those thick-soled leather shoes. At first glance, they didn’t look like good eggs.

"What are you guys up to so late?" An Ping asked.

"Off for a coffee!" Liu Xiaolian had a cigarette dangling from his mouth, took a few puffs, then dropped it to the ground and stomped it out. "Let’s go, come with us."

"I’m not going. That stuff is bitter and tastes dreadful. If you want to have something bitter, you might as well go chew on a handful of coptis. Wouldn’t that do the trick?"

"Jeez! Are you old-fashioned or what?" Liu Xiaolian couldn’t help but mock An Ping. "Drinking coffee is all about the taste. Haven’t you noticed how the wealthy folks, all dressed neat and pretty, sit down there and the little waitresses come over, swaying their hips? It’s thrilling!"

"I guess you’ve had your fun, thinking you’re the type to drink coffee. Aren’t you planning on going to that Disco Ballroom up ahead?" An Ping hit the nail on the head.

"Hehe."

"Hehe my foot! Is it because spring has arrived, you’re also starting to cat around? You better come back with me instead of running off and acting foolish, understand?"

"An Ping, think about it, don’t we need a bit of fun? Now that we’re in the city, we ought to see what city folk usually get up to. Can we stop going to the park all the time?"

"Alright, alright. I don’t care what you guys do, but I’m definitely not going."

"Then you head back. I’m heading out with Erzhuzi."

"Two hours. You better return in two hours." An Ping was worried about these two clowns. Ever since they came to the city and started the company, they had been playing up a storm.

Eating out, strolling in parks, watching movies, going to discos—they were practically going wild.

These two never seemed to have enough money each month.

An Ping didn’t dare to squander money carelessly or run around wildly. An Hao had given him a serious talk before they entered the city. Moreover, after the previous experience of getting detained, he didn’t dare make any trouble.

Erzhuzi and Liu Xiaolian promised to return, and before leaving, Liu Xiaolian, with his glib tongue, said, "Don’t worry too much about us. We’re just going for the pure joy of spending. Besides, who knows? There are lots of wealthy people there; maybe we’ll even bring you back a big customer."

"Get lost! With the two of you like this, just don’t come running to me for help later." An Ping teased them and walked back.

Disco Ballroom.

This place was a haven of joy, especially for first-timers like Liu Xiaolian and Wang Erzhu. The scene was absolutely fresh and exhilarating.
