Chapter 1224: Chapter 1224: Drink, a Drunken State Clears a Thousand Worries

Watching An Hao’s gaze settling, Qin Jian followed her line of sight.

Cheng Yue sat alone in the corner eating noodles, a bottle of baijiu on the table as he poured and drank by himself.

He appeared to be in a poor state and mood.

An Hao and Qin Jian exchanged glances, debating whether to greet Cheng Yue when he had already caught sight of them.

Carrying the wine bottle, he staggered their way and plunked down across from Qin Jian and An Hao, chuckling foolishly.

"Cheng Yue, what’s happened to you?" An Hao asked, looking at him with concern.

Though he chuckled, the sadness in his eyes was impossible to hide.

"Little junior sister... brother-in-law..." Cheng Yue slurred.

"Who’s your brother-in-law?" Qin Jian frowned, raising his hand to pat his face, "If you can’t hold your liquor, don’t just drink...

"Who said I was drinking recklessly! I wasn’t... Drinking has its reasons..." Cheng Yue shouted, slapping the table.

His voice was loud, unsettling the neighboring customers to the point where they began casting disapproving glances his way.

The noodle shop owner hurried over for the twenty-first time to remind him, "Keep it down... other customers are eating too. Keep it down..."

Cheng Yue, bleary-eyed, looked at him and loudly called out with his index finger to his lips, "Shush... Keep it down... everyone, keep it down..."

The noodle shop owner, helpless, shook his head and said to Qin Jian and An Hao:

"Could you two please take him away? It’s prime dining time, and he’s really bad for business..."

"Not leaving! Definitely not leaving! Whoever tries to take me away, I’ll hit them..." Cheng Yue bellowed.

"Alright, alright, alright." The noodle shop owner, not wanting to provoke him further, could only reluctantly leave, apologizing to the customers along the way.

Fortunately, everyone was understanding and didn’t behave like Cheng Yue, the drunkard.

But, Qin Jian knew that Cheng Yue wasn’t completely intoxicated; he was still clear-headed.

This was just his way of venting.

"Cheng Yue, if you have something to say, say it. Yelling and screaming won’t solve anything! Besides, it’s causing unnecessary trouble for others," Qin Jian said, lightly tapping on the table.

"Speak up! I’m in a bad mood too. I’ve been falsely accused and still can’t clear up the truth. Although I haven’t been fired, it’s pretty much the same," An Hao said dejectedly.

"..." Cheng Yue stared at her for a moment in surprise, then pushed the wine bottle towards her, "Drink, it drowns all the sorrows of a thousand worries."

"I can’t drink," An Hao refused, waving her hand, "You should drink less too. After all, you’re an intern doctor. Any trouble in the hospital is not a small matter!"

Cheng Yue took a few more swigs and then said, "My heart is heavy! Today is my sister’s birthday! She can’t celebrate it anymore..."

After saying this, his eyes reddened, and tears began to fall.

An Hao silently calculated; Cheng Yu had been gone for just over three months, hadn’t she?

Although gone, the emotional wounds left behind on her loved ones were not easily mended.

Facing Cheng Yue’s grief, An Hao and Qin Jian didn’t know how to comfort him.

Cheng Yu had once caused them harm, throwing their lives into chaos.

And An Hao had almost lost her life because of her; to them, Cheng Yu’s departure was a relief.

So while Cheng Yue was in pain, An Hao felt much lighter at heart than before.
