Chapter 1036: Chapter 1036: Farewell to the Troops
Qin Jian’s mouth curled up, and he turned to usher both of them in, "Have a seat anywhere! I’ll make some tea."
"No need to busy yourself," Li Zecheng quickly stopped him, "We just came to see you. We’ll say a few words and then leave."
"Alright." Qin Jian also sat down. To be honest, leaving the Northwest Military Region didn’t feel good; after all, he had lived and fought there, and to say he didn’t feel a sense of attachment would be a lie.
"By the way," Yang Dahe took out a piece of paper from his own pocket and handed it to Qin Jian, "This is from Sister Chunhua for your sister-in-law. An Hao mentioned before that she wanted to learn how to pickle sauerkraut from my wife, but she never got around to it. This time she asked me to bring the recipe to An Hao."
"Thank you, Sister Chunhua! Thank you, all of you! An Hao would surely be moved if she were here!" After Qin Jian put the item away, he stood up and fetched two bottles of red wine from his office cabinet, "An old war buddy who retired a while ago sent these over! I had planned to have Xiaozhou give them to you after I left."
"This is great... We both crave a drink!" Li Zecheng laughed, "How about we have a couple right now, as a farewell toast for you?"
"Take the wine and drink it at home!" Qin Jian said with a smile, "The discipline of the troops shouldn’t be overlooked just because I’m leaving. We can’t break it tonight!"
"Alright, as you say," Li Zecheng said, somewhat regretfully.
"With you leaving so early tomorrow, the warriors will surely be up by three-thirty to gather and see you off," Yang Dahe had heard them discussing it at lunch in the canteen.
Yang Dahe could already picture the scene with all the warriors standing at the regiment headquarters’ gate, saluting in unison as they bid farewell.
"Then I won’t go," Li Zecheng’s eyes reddened a bit, "I’m a sentimental guy, and I can’t stand that scene."
"I won’t go either," Yang Dahe was also moved, "The regimental commander also said it’s hard to let you go! We’ll just watch you leave from this building. If you see the lights on then, please remember to look back."
"Okay." Qin Jian’s throat bobbed twice, and he nodded heavily in agreement.
At three-thirty in the morning.
Qin Jian carried his luggage out of the dormitory building; the hallway was eerily quiet, utterly silent.
The warriors were all still resting.
He tread as lightly as he could, making his way downstairs.
As he exited the building, he saw that the warriors had already assembled, standing like green pines in the night, looking steadfastly at Qin Jian.
"Salute!" the reconnaissance company commander shouted.
Everyone’s movements were uniform, and with a crisp sound, they gave Qin Jian a solemn military salute.
Qin Jian felt warmth in his eyes as he stood upright and returned the salute to all the warriors!
Without a word spoken, every person’s emotions were contained in that salute!
"I’m off! I hope that all of you will continue to strive tirelessly!" Holding his bag and without looking back, Qin Jian walked away, leaving only his firm and tall figure behind.
The warriors’ eyes reddened, but none of them spoke; they all watched him until his figure disappeared.
As Qin Jian passed the training grounds, another group of warriors spontaneously stood there waiting for him!
The same scene repeated itself!
Finally, Qin Jian walked past the administration building, where the lights of an entire floor were on. Each window was filled with a straight, rigid figure.
"If you pass by this building and see a room lit up, you must stop! That is us gazing at you..."
Once again, these words echoed in Qin Jian’s ears.
