Chapter 1030: Chapter 1030: The Taste of Nostalgia
"Of course not! Even if we can’t get the money back, we must find a way to make that little bit of money work! We can’t just let a scoundrel get away with it for free!"
"How can we make it work?" The money is in someone else’s hands after all.
"Let me think."
"Sure! Take your time to think, sis. We absolutely have to get some payback! We can’t let that bastard get off so lightly." As long as An Hao was there, An Ping believed there would definitely be a good idea.
The siblings rode a bicycle and hadn’t even left town when it was already noon.
They decided to have a bowl of noodles at the small noodle house in the town.
It was still the beef noodle restaurant, An Hao and An Ping sat down, ordered a dish of fried hot peppers with meat, a dish of sweet and sour ribs, and a bowl of noodles each.
As they were eating, they heard someone outside hawking candied hawthorn fruit.
"Sis, remember? Back when I was young and didn’t understand much, and we were poor. Our family’s first bucket of gold came from you making candied hawthorn fruit in the middle of the night and selling it here in town." An Ping was quite emotional as he brought up the past.
"Yeah! Those days were really tough." Standing in the cold wind, selling candied hawthorn fruit until her hands turned bright red with cold.
"Tell me, didn’t you snag our brother-in-law with a string of candied hawthorn fruit?" An Ping asked with a grin.
"Pshaw! Do you think your brother-in-law would marry me for a string of candied hawthorn fruit? It was clearly your sister’s charm." An Hao said with her cheeks flushed red.
"Look at you, blushing! That proves you feel you’re exaggerating too." An Ping mockingly teased An Hao relentlessly.
"Go away! Go buy a string." It had been a long time since she last ate it, and An Hao was actually missing the taste.
"You got it!" An Hao sprang up eagerly, bolting out of the place like a young donkey.
He bought a string of candied hawthorn fruit and was just about to head back to the noodle house when he saw Niu Shanshan’s figure from a distance.
Why would she be in town at this time?
And why was she tugging and pulling with a man? An Ping felt a bit puzzled, so he ran toward them with the candied hawthorn fruit in hand.
"Niu Shanshan!" An Ping called out.
Niu Shanshan was struggling with another man when she suddenly heard An Ping’s voice, jumping in fright.
She turned her head and saw that it was indeed An Ping.
"An Ping. What are you doing in town?" Niu Shanshan asked.
"Just handling some business. What about you? Who is this guy? I’ve never seen him before?" An Ping fired off several questions in quick succession.
"Him! He’s my cousin." Niu Shanshan said with a smile.
"How come I’ve never heard about you having a cousin?" An Ping pressed, as Liu Shanshan was not just anyone to him, she was the one he was dating.
"A distant cousin! It’s almost New Year’s, and he wanted to come visit and insisted on bringing something for my mom! Our family isn’t well off, so why waste that money! Isn’t that why I’m trying to stop him?" Niu Shanshan explained to An Ping.
"Oh." An Ping nodded, his inquiring gaze shifting to the man.
"I am Niu Shanshan’s cousin!" He acknowledged.
"In that case, I won’t disturb you anymore!" An Ping said.
"Alright. You go ahead with your stuff. We’ll see each other back in the village!" Niu Shanshan said.
An Ping turned to leave, but Niu Shanshan grabbed him, pointing at the candied hawthorn fruit in his hand and said, "For me? Thanks!"
With that, she snatched it away and took a crunchy bite.
"Hey!" The action was so quick that An Ping was caught off guard.
"What? Isn’t it for me? If you say it’s not for me, then who is the girl you bought it for?" Niu Shanshan eyed An Ping suspiciously.
"For you! Eat, eat! It was indeed bought for you!" Since she had already taken a bite, An Ping couldn’t be bothered to explain any further.
