Surviving The Fourth Calamity -
Chapter 873 - 669: Who is the First?
Chapter 873: Chapter 669: Who is the First?
Possibly because there is a magical locator next door, Agleya City has been relatively calm.
After obtaining Hill’s consent, Lynn allowed the citizens to go outside every afternoon, but they could not leave the Puzzle Lock range.
The world is not yet stable.
Hill could sense fragile spaces collapsing and being rebuilt in the distance, and Toril’s Natural Consciousness still hadn’t awakened.
He worriedly glanced toward the Supreme Forest, where the spatial walls were more fragile than elsewhere, unsure what might become of them.
But at the moment, he could only look out for himself.
Fortunately, Marsha and List were already able to start working, though they couldn’t yet appear in person, but the facilities in Agleya City and the Floating Castle were beginning to function again.
When the commercial street lit up and opened its doors once more, there was a restrained cheer from the Agleya citizens, who were deeply concerned about the city’s grain supplies as they watched the Sea God Temple continuously sheltering refugees. These refugees had inevitably arrived without any provisions and were reliant on the City Lord’s aid.
So, although Lynn had maintained a calm demeanor, the inactivity of the commercial street still caused them worry.
The Agleya citizens didn’t have much grain on hand and had grown accustomed to shopping at the City Lord’s shops at intervals.
Though Lynn had mentioned that the city warehouse was well-stocked and a grocery selling limited grains had opened beside the City Hall, in a disaster with no known end, the citizens were still more focused on the City Lord’s actions.
He is the one who determines Agleya City’s future.
Fortunately, as the mayor had said, the shops had not opened due to Marsha being unable to work during that period.
After reassuring themselves, the Agleya citizens finally had the leisure to observe those arriving refugees, faithful followers of the Goddess Agleya.
They then contentedly noted that these people, regardless of age or gender, appeared healthy and clearly accustomed to seaside life, showing no signs of laziness.
Some were visibly sailors and captains, but only those recognized by the Sea God Temple were brought over, earning a measure of trust.
Agleya is always straightforward. Her judgment of a person’s past wrongdoings is not based on their Faction but on whether they violated the extensive laws of William.
As a deity of the Chaos System, Agleya understood that trusting solely her judgment could lead to problems.
However, legal texts are explicit, and deities have many ways to ascertain whether individuals have committed crimes.
Although the surviving refugees were overwhelmed with grief, people living by the Toril Sea were long accustomed to life and death separations.
Especially those living far from Sword Bay, who still devoted their pious faith to Agleya, suggesting a life of hardship that made her, unreachable as she was, their spiritual pillar.
Many had, upon hearing of Agleya’s thrashing of Ambori, esteemed her as the greatest deity and praised her in songs daily.
Moreover, with the growing power of faith in the Agleya Temple over the years, those facing crises at sea found it increasingly likely to have their prayers answered.
Thus, when Lynn informed Hill that the Sea God Temple had rescued about eight or nine hundred refugees, he was surprised but accepted it as reality.
He then went with Lynn to the city warehouse, stocking it with a large supply of building materials, allowing Lynn to handle things as he saw fit since some refugees might want to build their own homes.
Lynn settled them temporarily on an open area at the edge of the Puzzle Lock in the Green Forest, where they quickly constructed simple wood shelters for themselves.
Due to a newly appeared mountain causing numerous trees in the forest to break and die, the Druids, unable to use their powers, took these refugees to collect wood nearby.
This place might eventually form a village.
Hill was not without options, but he was cautious in integrating these people into the city; they needed to be tested, as people might change after facing chaos.
During this period, Hill needed to be extra cautious, not out of fear, but to prevent any refugees from becoming envious of Agleya citizens’ lives.
Even previously kind people could act rashly due to their misfortunes.
Later tasks were left to Lynn, channeling the refugees’ attention towards building their homes seemed beneficial.
After all... the port was starting to become slightly unstable.
Terry even brought a team of Dragon People who usually stayed at the Sword Mountain Range ranch over to the inn.
Nothing in Agleya City could escape Hill’s watchful eyes, and he knew what schemes were afoot.
Some small nobles and merchants staying at the inn tried to collude with underworld organizations in Deepwater City, aiming to drive Hill and his subordinates out and take over Agleya City, offering it as a tribute to the Archmage Kelben, who had been contributing profoundly to world stability.
At this point, no one would dare offend the Lord of the Black Staff since the terrains near Neverwinter and Agleya City had changed, whereas Deepwater City, as a Weave anchoring point by Kelben, had remained unchanged.
The people in the Harpist Building... at this time, they chose to remain silent and not help either side.
Hill couldn’t quite understand why these old rangers, who had once sacrificed their youth for freedom and peace, behaved so disgracefully.
Is it because the collapse of the world has broken their will?... Or do they think that the eyes of the deities can’t see what is happening in the world, so they have lost their self-control?
Even Melikai in the starry sky would be ashamed of their actions.
All Gods are merely unable to communicate with their followers on earth, not that they cannot see.
They didn’t need to help Hill, just a warning would suffice, yet the Elven City Guards patrolled past their location every day but received no news at all.
Lynn, after receiving the information, stood several times in his mayor’s office looking towards the Harpist Building, only to be met with disappointment.
The Harpist he joined had actually turned into another power institution after Kelben openly left with his people and revealed many identities, still a chaotic organization with many bosses and everyone having a say.
So Hill was already aware, he didn’t have much feeling about the actions of the harpists, just demoted their status a bit further in his mind.
Although the recovery of the Origin Power was slower than he had hoped, at least he didn’t need to hold onto the Crystal Flower to defend the city.
After placing the Crystal Flower back into the fountain, he let Purwell guard the Floating Castle and began his daily patrol of the city.
When those at the port attempted to create trouble, they were directly locked in place by the red mist of the Water Maze Lock, allowing the City Guards to capture them.
Lynn had no intention of interrogating these people to find out their purpose: anyone causing trouble under these circumstances, regardless of identity or the nature of the incident, would be executed.
The application of heavy penalties in chaotic times is a common practice in all worlds.
Even so, those eager to move didn’t suppress their ambitions and behaved even more rampant, they must have obtained some information that made them feel confident of victory.
During his later patrols, Hill silently wore on his water-fire resistant gloves.
He quickly discovered the reason for these people’s strange and unfounded confidence.
When he patrolled near the edge of the Green Forest, an Ancient Green Dragon, whose scales had dimmed to a pale olive green, rushed down from the newly appeared peak.
A sinister grin appeared on its gloomy, wrinkled serpentine face as it seemed to be smiling smugly upon seeing Hill’s surprised expression.
Though she couldn’t use spells either, she was, after all, a giant dragon!
Seeing the claws rushing for his head, Hill subtly moved aside, skillfully balancing and threw two punches at the ugly head that displeased him.
The Green Dragon was likely concussed by the straight punches, whining and spinning in place, completely forgetting to run away.
Hill grabbed the horn on the dragon’s head with his left hand and forcefully pinned the snake’s head to the ground before delivering five or six strong punches with his right hand.
Scarlet blood instantly sprayed out, even mixed with some white brain matter, leaving the dragon’s head utterly destroyed.
Being splattered by the vile blood because of his excessive exertion, Hill ended up covered in it, smelling atrociously, with a darkened face.
Since he was excessively cautious, aiming specifically at reportedly the hardest part of the dragon, his power exerted was maximized... maybe too much.
Hill, feeling somewhat displeased with the scene before him, decided to moderate his strength next time, unless it’s an Ancient Dragon, he seemingly doesn’t need to go all out.
The dragon’s corpse thudded heavily to the ground. Lynn and the Elven City Guards, who arrived hastily, could only silently stand aside, sneaking glances at the half-elven sorcerer standing in the still-oozing dragon blood, with a cold expression looking down at the dragon’s corpse.
Is this really something a half-elf can do? Even humanoid dragons couldn’t so effortlessly slay a dragon, right? Most elves felt like they were witnessing something from another world.
Lynn thought dazedly, what exactly is an Earth Bear?
Is this really the power of the bear as often mentioned by the Undead Tribe? He always believed it was on par with warriors of the same level!
How did that song go?
According to the Undead Tribe, it was a tune composed by William, renowned for possessing a strength that even deities exclaim!
Although the physique of magicians is generally a bit stronger than that of mages, even the most powerful bodybuilder among dragonblood sorcerers couldn’t directly smash an Ancient Green Dragon’s head, could they?
Tasding, who came up behind, gently tapped Terry’s shoulder with his slender claws: "Have you ever compared strength with him? How miserably did you lose?"
Terry briskly flicked away the Mercury Dragon’s claw: "Anyway, anyone is stronger than you, you can’t even beat me."
