Chapter 87: Chapter 78 The Failure of Cortez’s Expedition
Kronos forced a smile, "Mr. Polanio, you don’t understand. There are simply too many matters related to Haifasardo that we had to designate a special area to handle them. How would I dare to tarnish the dignity of mages?"
"Did you learn this passage from the nobles?" Hill sneered coldly, "Only those nobles who need to separate guests of different levels would use such a circular path in their castles."
He glanced at the silent Haifasardo mage and spoke, "Although the King of Saral is not very friendly towards the Mage Association, it is because they have always had their grievances.
The Undead Tribe may be powerful, but they can’t interfere in the internal affairs of Saral.
Moreover, His Majesty the King has constructed many medium-sized Magic Towers in the new Royal Capital and is very much in need of mid to low-level mages.
I hope you guys will consider it. I will speak to my grandfather about the matters here in Cortez."
Hill glanced at Kronos, who still wanted to speak, "Are you from a branch of the Cortez Royal Family? Do you look down upon ordinary mages?
You think I don’t know?
Those mages who prefer the detours will certainly not join the Mage Association to find discomfort; only the orthodox mages will."
Do you intend to force these mages to serve under the nobles?
The Mage Association of Cortez doesn’t actually serve mages!"
Hill was genuinely angry. The Mage Association was originally a place to provide services for mages. Many mages allow it to recruit talented apprentices within their own territories precisely because it offers them a safety net.
If one day they truly encountered great trouble, the Archmage who is head of the association branch, would be their last lifeline.
The original Mage Council was established by legendary mages so that the mage lineage would not be severed in a world abandoned by the deities.
The status mages have today was earned when those same legendary mages, forsaking their long lives, fought against the deities.
Mages can now afford to watch nobles struggle in the deities’ world with detached interest, all thanks to the sacrifices of their predecessors.
The Mage Association rarely has good relations with any country’s Royal Family, but even mages born to nobility would never help the Royal Family against the Mage Association.
And now, there emerges a branch leader of the Royal Family who stands here aligning with the nobles to coax mages, playing their good cop, bad cop games.
Kronos dared not say much, repeating only that it was a misunderstanding and he absolutely had no such intentions—it was all the doing of his subordinates.
"It’s all because there’ve been quite a few incidents lately. The mages from Haifasardo have agitated Cortez’s nobility into assaulting the association, and some of their companions have been injured," Kronos said with a bitter smile, "Even our own mages have been hurt because of this matter. That’s why we didn’t want to receive guests from Haifasardo.
I truly didn’t expect they were merely apprentices to dare be disrespectful to a mage."
Hill couldn’t be bothered with this Archmage’s nonsensical talk, his spiritual power as a mage was strong enough to be aware of everything happening within the entire Magic Tower.
Hill knew that Kronos must see him as a Magister who managed to achieve his status at such a young age by being the sort who does not concern himself with worldly affairs, immersing himself in rigorous cultivation.
Indeed, Fran is a master who even the Mage Association must respect, but as long as Hill was fooled and sent on his way, Fran would have no after-claims against him.
After all, Fran was not yet Legendary. It wouldn’t make sense for him to travel such a distance over a trivial matter.
As for Hill, even if people later said that he was young and easy to deceive, he would just have to accept it.
Turning on his heel, Hill exited the door and at the entrance, he asked the Haifasardo mages, "Do you want to come with me? I can take you to Saral."
The mages from Haifasardo exchanged glances, and in only a few seconds, they made up their minds and stood behind Hill.
"Wait, Mr. Polanio." Seeing the unfavorable turn of events, Kronos hurriedly caught up, "Please don’t misunderstand, I truly was just not paying attention. I will immediately remove the passage.
And these apprentices will be duly disciplined!"
Hill marched straight out the door, frowning at the sight of several unrecognizable figures that had been thrown by the Thorns, then transformed the carriage into an Airship on the spot.
He invited the astonished Haifasardo mages aboard, not intending to speak another word to Kronos, who had chased after them.
Kronos, realizing he was powerless to stop them, could only stand there begging for Hill’s forgiveness.
Not until that moment had he paid any attention to the Haifasardo mages who had genuinely suffered at his hands.
Hill no longer wanted to witness this irredeemable person, and the Airship quickly ascended, heading in the direction of Saral.
"Sir, are we taking the sea route back?" Srei appeared.
Hill instructed him to fly over the ocean, "If we fly back, I’ll go bankrupt!"
Srei nodded with a slight smile in affirmation.
The few Haifasardo mages stood somewhat awkwardly on the deck, looking at Hill.
Hill invited them into the cabin above the deck.
Hill had no skills in shipbuilding and could only fully replicate Fran’s sailboat, although significantly smaller, at only half the size.
But it was enough for his needs.
The only difference was that Hill dared to take the ship into the open sea, whereas Fran could not.
And while bringing along a few mages posed no issue, if he were accompanying Magisters of the same level as himself, Hill could not guarantee he would be able to conceal their magic power.
As for gamers, Hill would never consider taking them out to sea.
To him, they were nothing but super bait.
